Duration: 15 Minutes
[00:00:02.000]
Welcome to today's training for the Washington State Library today's session is 15 min to mastery gale product links.

[00:00:10.000]
My name is Tammi Burke. I'm your Gale trainer.

[00:00:12.000]
Any questions that you have throughout the session. Please feel free to use that. Q.

[00:00:16.000]
And A box. It is open and available. I will be holding off an answering questions until the end of the session, just because it is a short 15 min session.

[00:00:25.000]
So we're gonna focus on the content. And then I will stick around as long as you need me to to answer any questions that you may have.

[00:00:31.000]
Our focus today is on a portion of the Gale support site, and we are talking today specifically about Gale product links.

[00:00:35.000]
So your direct you Urls for the individual products, and few other materials that you would need to add these links to your library website.

[00:00:49.000]
I do have a brief agenda, and we are going to start with talking about access to the Washington State Library Gale resources.

[00:00:56.000]
I will be sharing a link in the chat, so keep an eye on that.

[00:00:57.000]
Any questions, though, please use the box. The Gale support site.

[00:01:05.000]
I will go over today that's what we're focusing on.

[00:01:09.000]
And then training and support. I will share with you at the end of the session, where you can go for additional support, because we will briefly cover where you can find training materials and then contact information of folks at Gale that are there for that one on one support.

[00:01:25.000]
To access your Washington State Library resources. You can go to this site and let me share that in the chat.

[00:01:32.000]
Real, quick for those of you that are attending live session.

[00:01:36.000]
This is a great site to bookmark, because you can find all of the content that you need to support your gale resources that you have from the Washington State Library in one spot.

[00:01:47.000]
So if you access this link, and then the next step would be to select your library from the dropdown menu, or, as you type it in the search assists, will help you find your library.

[00:02:00.000]
You select your library and then click, proceed right here to the right one.

[00:02:01.000]
You do, it will take you to all of your product links and we're going to talk through these product links and additional information.

[00:02:08.000]
I am also going to cover technical documents today, since I have you all on the line and we're talking about links it's good information to have, especially if you're using a proxy or anything like that.

[00:02:25.000]
So once. You do as I said, enter in your library information.

[00:02:31.000]
The product list will populate in your location. Id. For your individual library site will be built right into those direct URL.

[00:02:40.000]
So let's talk a little bit about the Gale support site before we jump in, and I share with you how to navigate the site we're what we're talking about today is specifically access access and product information.

[00:02:54.000]
So access Urls, we I'm not going to touch really on title lists, but you can find title.

[00:02:55.000]
List on the Gale support site. We're going to talk about Mark records, technical documents, database icons, widgets, and then I will also share with you how you can contact.

[00:03:06.000]
I'm someone from Gale, directly from the support site.

[00:03:15.000]
I also want to share with you additional materials that you're going to find on the Gale support site like the training center.

[00:03:21.000]
You're going to find tip sheets and tutorials.

[00:03:23.000]
There's recorded webinars and training ducks.

[00:03:25.000]
We have lesson plans for our K12 folks and projects and scavenger hunts for students or users coming into your public library, marketing materials.

[00:03:34.000]
We have great bookmarks and digital ads and posters and email templates.

[00:03:36.000]
We also have great communication templates. So if you're looking to write a blog post, we have some already ready to go for you.

[00:03:47.000]
We also have social media posts available with images to go along with your post.

[00:03:48.000]
Here's one oops, went too far there. Here's one, for example, here at the bottom, and we have a lot of different tip sheets available.

[00:04:01.000]
Here's one for global issues, a new one that we just created where you can create, create, or generate a QR code directly into the resource using one of your direct Urls that I'm going to share with you today.

[00:04:14.000]
So if you want to use your global issues in Conor or Galen context, global issues, you can use that direct URL generate a QR code and paste.

[00:04:17.000]
It right into this document and share this flyer with your patrons or your students.

[00:04:32.000]
Alright. So with that, I'm going to go into the support site.

[00:04:37.000]
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the Q. And a box.

[00:04:38.000]
I'm happy to answer those. So this is a link that I shared with you in the chat, and also shared in the Powerpoint, where you'll be taken to this site, where you can then sign in and enter in your library name now for today I Askm going to use the Washington state library site and you can see

[00:04:58.000]
as I start typing it in.

[00:05:07.000]
We have. As I scroll down Washington State Library is here.

[00:05:10.000]
Once I select it, I'm gonna have that page article open for us here.

[00:05:11.000]
It takes me to my products so immediately ass! Soon as I click, proceed, it will take me to my product list, and a few things I want to point out here with this product list.

[00:05:23.000]
So I have. If you look, I have all of the products I have available from the Washington State Library in this list.

[00:05:37.000]
I can do a couple things. I have the product name here, if I want to go to all the information on that individual product.

[00:05:40.000]
Now share that with you in a moment I have the link available.

[00:05:49.000]
This is one direct link, and this is going to gale academic, one file.

[00:05:50.000]
If I' to access the product myself. Now, these support sites are solely designed for our librarians, and media specialists are administrators.

[00:06:02.000]
So this access product would be more for you I wouldn't share this page with your users.

[00:06:03.000]
I would take these links and place them on your library website.

[00:06:11.000]
If that's something you're interested in doing, I also have another option for you that I want to share in just a moment about access.

[00:06:18.000]
So. But that's why you can quickly access the products yourself if you want to copy each individual link, you have that option here at the end.

[00:06:27.000]
Now we have some filter options on the right hand side.

[00:06:30.000]
If you wanted to search for a certain product, you can, if you wanted to filter by product family.

[00:06:35.000]
So if I wanted to filter to just all of my Gale In Context resources, I can do that, or maybe my literature, resources.

[00:06:41.000]
I can do that if I want to export all of my product lists, I can click on the export now.

[00:06:52.000]
It will normally say, export links, but because I already exported them.

[00:06:57.000]
It created a spreadsheet, and I did that prior to the start of the session, because I wanted to share that information with you.

[00:07:03.000]
And this is what it will look like when you're done.

[00:07:06.000]
So you can see you have the the title of the product right here.

[00:07:12.000]
Then you have the link. You also have a link to the individual icon.

[00:07:19.000]
And then finally the description. So here is all the information that you need.

[00:07:23.000]
If you wanted to grab this download it, and then add it to your library website, you can do that.

[00:07:29.000]
Let me go back to our site.

[00:07:35.000]
There we go. So when you export that file, that's what it looks like.

[00:07:36.000]
And it isn't a Csv file. But of course you can easily change that to an Excel spreadsheet, if that's what you're using.

[00:07:46.000]
So let's we talked about the different products that you have or the product list you have available.

[00:07:52.000]
If I wanted everything for academic one file, something I can do is click on that product and bear with me.

[00:08:01.000]
Zoom tennds to bog it down a little bit.

[00:08:04.000]
It takes me to everything I need for academic one file.

[00:08:07.000]
Here's my direct URL. Here are all of my icons title lists. Vpad!

[00:08:12.000]
Information. If I'm using widgets, I have.

[00:08:13.000]
Iframe link, or I can customize it, and then below is training materials and marketing materials, all for academic.

[00:08:20.000]
One file, so that's an option that you have available.

[00:08:29.000]
If I again you can export all of them, or if you wanted to go into each individual one, I'm gonna show you another path how you can find all of the icons, and that is going to product support so this navigation at the top product.

[00:08:45.000]
Support I can go to icons. I can go to direct Urls.

[00:08:49.000]
I can find all of my products here. So that information at the top product support. I can go to icons. I can go to direct Urls. I can find all of my products here so that information is available here.

[00:08:58.000]
And we're going to circle back to this in a moment. I wanna cover more of what you're going to find here on this page before we go to that last step so we're in our products here.

[00:09:04.000]
We have all that information if I want ebook information. So if I'm looking for either direct Urls to individual E-s, I see that a lot with our libraries, especially our public libraries.

[00:09:19.000]
You can see here when I click into ebooks. I have the title, the cover, the title, The link in this link is to each individual title.

[00:09:29.000]
Now, when I see this being used is usually it applies to programming or coursework at the academic level.

[00:09:36.000]
Or maybe in a K 12 library. You want to highlight a few titles, because, you know, classes are working on a certain certain unit, and you want to pull those out and post them on your library website all of your ebooks live in the Gale ebooks platform so in that resource they all live there

[00:09:54.000]
and that's how your users should access all of your Gale ebooks.

[00:09:58.000]
But I just want to share with you that you have this other option.

[00:10:01.000]
You can export all the links to your individual e-s. If you'd like to do that, and then also your mark records, so I can access my mark records from this point under e-books, or, if you remember I pointed it out here it's under product support so both places will take you to

[00:10:19.000]
the same information, and since I've signed in, I am going to get those personalized mark records because my location Id is built into these links also, and it will be built into my mark records.

[00:10:35.000]
So again signing in gives you all of those unique to your site information.

[00:10:36.000]
You also have the training materials and marketing materials. I mentioned.

[00:10:44.000]
We're going to go into those today. That would be safe for another session that we have coming up.

[00:10:49.000]
But technical documents. I do want to touch into, because you may be looking for technical documents on adding a proxy to your direct Urls, or single sign on information.

[00:11:02.000]
So can I add my proxy, URL, to the Gale.

[00:11:05.000]
Persistent links, easy proxy, configuration, Gale, single sign on options.

[00:11:11.000]
So you can see we have Discovery service information here links to holdings what is Gale pages and Gale pages is a resource site that you have available that can house all of your gale resources, and it's customizable.

[00:11:25.000]
It is free to everyone. I'm going to show you where you can find that information in just a moment.

[00:11:30.000]
You have your Ebookmark records usage reporting overview.

[00:11:31.000]
So a lot of great technical documents here to help support what's happening in your library, and how you can add your Gale resources into where your users are accessing your information or your digital content.

[00:11:48.000]
Now I mentioned scale pages, and I wanna share with you where you can find or what exactly Gale pages are.

[00:11:52.000]
So under tools, this navigation here at the top is really helpful under tools.

[00:11:59.000]
I can go to Gale pages. Let me just share with you what that looks like.

[00:12:02.000]
So I'm gonna access the site and every site or every library has access to a complementary Gale page resource site.

[00:12:17.000]
This, as I mentioned, is customizable. Yeah, all of your gale resources are here.

[00:12:20.000]
You can customize it further in studio. Now, if this is something you're interested in, your URL is at the top that will never change.

[00:12:30.000]
There's a lot that you can do with this page.

[00:12:33.000]
You can right now. It's defaulted to adding resources, and ebooks, and you have 2 different pages of, but if I wanted to say I have special programming coming up in my library, and I want to edit a page here, I can or I'm coming from an academic library and there's

[00:12:49.000]
a certain certain courses, and my students are looking for information. I can do that.

[00:12:50.000]
This is used a lot at the K. 12 level. It is.

[00:12:58.000]
We do see it used at with community colleges, and some public libraries, too, with our K.

[00:12:59.000]
12 folks, this resource site is great, for again cooking it, adding specific topics.

[00:13:04.000]
Maybe there's times of years, research projects are coming up certain teachers that you're working with or maybe it's the history department.

[00:13:11.000]
And you want to organize all of your resources for them.

[00:13:17.000]
You can do that for public libraries. Maybe you want to organize your business content and all of those resources in one spot.

[00:13:27.000]
That's a great place to. This is a great place to do it.

[00:13:29.000]
So consider this as another access point. Everything is here. All the icons, all the links, it's ready to go for you.

[00:13:33.000]
And again you can customize it further. You can even add in resources from other vendors.

[00:13:43.000]
So it's not limited to just scale, so it could be your one-stop shop for all of your digital resources.

[00:13:48.000]
And again that was located in that top navigation under tools, scale pages.

[00:13:54.000]
So we talked about access. Let's go back to product support.

[00:13:58.000]
Because I to already shared with you how you can go to individual products.

[00:14:03.000]
But what if I wanted to? Just jump on real quick and grab all of my icons?

[00:14:10.000]
This is a great way to do that, so you have your direct Urls.

[00:14:14.000]
You've downloaded or exported that list. There are.

[00:14:17.000]
The Icon list. Is there, too? But maybe you like to individually grab each individual icon.

[00:14:20.000]
I like to sometimes right-click and copy the image, and immediately paste it into whatever I'm working with.

[00:14:30.000]
Or maybe you prefer, which is something we do suggest using the link to that icon for your library website.

[00:14:37.000]
So it really depends on how your system is setup. But we do have all the different options, lower res and thumnail, all available here for you.

[00:14:50.000]
You also have under products that it all of your widgets available.

[00:14:58.000]
So again I shared with you academic one file when I clicked on academic one file it took me to just everything for academic one file.

[00:15:07.000]
If I wanted all of the Widget information for all of my products, I can go to widgets and grab all of those if it's the I frame code I'm using, I can grab that information.

[00:15:19.000]
Okay. Let me know if there are any questions. But again, if you go directly to your Washington State Library site, find your location.

[00:15:29.000]
Click, proceed, then it will take you to all of your product lists and all the information that you need.

[00:15:38.000]
So remember you have this navigation here, but also at the top of your page.

[00:15:43.000]
You have in that individual navigation to your guail pages, or to all of your icons.

[00:15:50.000]
Now, if you select the homepage, the last thing I'm gonna share with you is when you select that homepage, you do have the ability to connect with your Gale customer success manager.

[00:16:02.000]
There! You're one-on-one support. You can email them directly or make an appointment.

[00:16:03.000]
Now for the Washington State Library and public libraries. Kevin Teller is the customer.

[00:16:08.000]
Success, manager. If you're coming from an academic or K 12, it's going to be a different customer.

[00:16:14.000]
Success manager. They each specialize in their individual market. So Kevin is, is our specialist for public, and then we have academic and also K.

[00:16:20.000]
12, so you can make an appointment right on their calendar, and they can help you with all of the information that you need.

[00:16:34.000]
They can help you with usage reports or accessing everything that I discussed today.

[00:16:38.000]
But they are really your one-on-one support, and all things, Gale.

[00:16:43.000]
All right. So let's go back to that Powerpoint, because I do want to share with you just a few more quick items as we close out today, as I mentioned, support system is here and K.

[00:16:56.000]
12 I mentioned going through the support site to access or to make an appointment or email.

[00:17:04.000]
Your customer success manager directly. But if you would like a general inbox for all of our K.

[00:17:11.000]
12, and public customer. Success, managers. You can use this link here, or academic.

[00:17:17.000]
Those academic folks coming to us. We have an email address for those folks, too, and that'll take you to the general email and inbox just let us know what site you're coming from.

[00:17:29.000]
And your customer success manager will reach out to you directly, so that wraps our session.

[00:17:34.000]
My name is Tammi Burke. I'm your senior Gale trainer, and if you would like to leave some feature on our survey, I have 2 options for you, one when you leave this session.

[00:17:45.000]
The survey should pop up for you to answer, or, I should say, leave comments, and then also, if you were like to use a QR.

[00:17:53.000]
Code. You can do that too. That option is available but that wraps our session.

[00:17:56.000]
If there's any questions, please feel free to ask, I will stick around and answer any questions that you may have.

[00:18:02.000]
But thank you so much for your time today, and I hope you find huge success in adding those direct URL for your Washington State Library resources to your library websites.

[00:18:12.000]
Thank you. Everyone.
