Access_Method | A COUNTER attribute indicating whether the usage related to investigations and requests was generated by a human user browsing and searching a website (“Regular”) or by Text and Data Mining processes (“TDM”). Gale single value is Regular. | COUNTER 5 Reports |
Access_Type | A COUNTER attribute used to report on the nature of access control restrictions, if any, placed on the content item at the time when the content item was accessed. Gale reports support one value (Controlled). | COUNTER 5 Title Master Report |
Data_Type | The field identifying type of content at the source title-level (e.g. Journal, Book, Newspaper or Newsletter, Report, Multimedia, Other). An optional filter and attribute on Master Reports for invesigation and request activity | COUNTER 5 Reports |

Full-text Retrieval | Sum of only full text records examined, downloaded, or otherwise supplied to user, to the extent these are recordable and controlled by the Gale server rather than the browser. | Gale Standard Reports |
Gale (Platform) | The main Gale platform. The underlying infrastructure and common host that Includes InfoTrac, In Context, Literature resources, Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), Gale Directory Library (GDL) databases | COUNTER 5 Reports |

Record View | A successful request for a database record that has originated from a set of search results, from browsing the database or from a click on another database record. For Gale, this is a view an article on screen and does not include download activity. | COUNTER 4 Database Report 1 |
Report Attributes | In COUNTER reports the report attributes modify how a report is presented. Typically a report attribute will not limit or filter the usage being presented. Report Filter | A filter places a limit or restrictions on the usage to be included in a COUNTER report. This is usually displayed as a name-value pair e.g. Data_Type=Journal in the report header. | COUNTER 5 Reports |

Retrievals | Sum of all full text, abstract, and extended citation records examined, downloaded, or otherwise supplied to user, to the extent these are recordable and controlled by the Gale server rather than the browser. | COUNTER 4 Database Report 1 |

Searches_Platform | A COUNTER Metric Type used to report searches conducted on a platform. Each user-initiated search can only be counted once regardless of the number of databases involved in the search. | COUNTER 5 Platform Usage Report |
Searches_Regular | A COUNTER Metric Type used to report on searches conducted by a user on a host where the user is in control over which databases can be searched. | COUNTER 5 Database Usage Report |
Section_Type | A COUNTER attribute that identifies the type of section that was accessed by the user (e.g. Article, Other) | COUNTER 5 Title Master Report |
Sessions | A successful request of an online service. A single user connects to the service or database and ends by terminating activity that is either explicit (by leaving the service through exit or logout) or implicit (timeout due to user inactivity). | Gale Standard Reports |
Total_Item_Investigations | A COUNTER Metric_Type that represents the number of times users accessed the content (i.e. full text) of an item, or information describing that item (i.e. an abstract) | COUNTER 5 Reports |
Total_Item_Requests | A COUNTER Metric_Type that represents the number of times users requested the full content (i.e. full text) of an item.Requests may take the form of viewing, downloading, emailing, or printing content provided such actions can be tracked by the content provider’s server. | COUNTER 5 Reports |
