[00:00:54.000]
We will have those recordings in that way. You'll get that follow up email with a link to where you can locate the recording.
[00:01:01.000]
But we'll also share and have shared in the chat where a Gale support site that we've created for Utah.
[00:01:07.000]
And I'm going to cover that, that's where we're going to start today. So we're going to cover that today, but Michael for you is with this training our focus is on like I said that high level overview and also a crosswalk of the Gale resources that you have available for public libraries.
[00:01:25.000]
So as compared to the Ebsco resources that you previously had. Will access from Utah's Online Public Library so that access starts July, the first.st
[00:01:35.000]
I'm going to talk a little bit about access because there are some things happening. The state is working on some technical questions and their end.
[00:01:45.000]
So I'm gonna give you a site where you can watch for full details. About access to the resources from the State Library.
[00:01:53.000]
So they're working on some things about access to the resources from the state library. So they're working on some things on their end still, but hope to have that ironed out. I think this morning they're working on it.
[00:01:59.000]
So we hope to have it ironed out soon. So I'll give you a site where you can find up to date information of course their online public library site is also available and I'll be sharing that with you.
[00:02:11.000]
We would like to get you starting these resources. Start using these resources and providing this access. So again, hope to have that straightened out very soon for you all in this training.
[00:02:22.000]
We will cover content and tools and features that are available within the resources. And the large gale support system that you have available to Utah's Online Library, Online Public Library.
[00:02:36.000]
You have great support tools available on the Gale support site. And I'm going to cover a little bit of that today too.
[00:02:42.000]
So a brief agenda. We're going to start with talking about access. I'm going to provide you with an overview of the Gale resources.
[00:02:49.000]
We're going to then go into a crosswalk and then spend time in the resources talking about content and tools and features that you have available.
[00:02:54.000]
Any questions that you have, please feel free to use that Q&A box. And we will be happy to stay on the line at the end of today's training if there's any additional questions.
[00:03:01.000]

[00:03:20.000]
So 1st let's talk about Utah's Online Public Library. So this site should be familiar to you all, but I will add it to the chat box.
[00:03:29.000]
It is available there. 4 on this site, you can see the very 1st page. Talking about exciting changes that are coming starting July first.st
[00:03:39.000]
The second page is where I want to point out a few items. If you scroll to the bottom of that page, that is where you're going to see all of the icons of all the resources that you have available, all your new Gale resources.
[00:03:50.000]
But right here, hyperlinked out is the crosswalk. I'm going to cover it today in today's training, but if you would like a copy of this, it is available on Utah's Online Public Library site.
[00:04:02.000]
Once you click into that crosswalk, you will see the PowerPoint slides that cover the Gale resources and again that crosswalk between Gale and and the Ebsco resources.
[00:04:15.000]
We've also provided you with a support site. A gale support site specifically for Utah's Online Public Library.
[00:04:24.000]
Now to get that up-to-date information on access, this is a great site. To bookmark because we will be updating that information as soon as it is available to us from your state library.
[00:04:37.000]
Our tech guys are waiting to update that information there. So there what you're seeing now Do not use that access point until we know for sure the messaging will go out.
[00:04:48.000]
So hold tight. We apologize for the delay. Like I said, the state library is working on some technical questions that they have and hope to have that cleared up very soon this morning.
[00:04:59.000]
So we'll have that information updated very soon. But also on that site you're going to find training materials and marketing materials.
[00:05:06.000]
I'll cover that more at the end of today's training. This is a great place to bookmark because again, all of our training materials will live there.
[00:05:11.000]
This. This recorded webinar will live there. Our upcoming training sessions are there. And then like I said, great marketing materials are there too.
[00:05:22.000]
So that link, Stacy has already provided in the webinar chat. We can share it again with you all so that you have it.
[00:05:23.000]
But it is here on the screen for anyone that's watching the recording. So let's talk about your gale resources.
[00:05:34.000]
We're going to start with an overview of all your Gale resources. I've grouped them into collections to help you understand them a little bit more, see what you have available, and then we will go into that crosswalk.
[00:05:48.000]
Now this picture is of multiple icons of resources that you have available. It does not include everything because you have a very large one file collection.
[00:05:57.000]
But I just wanted to give you a bit of a visual before we dive into each of those collections.
[00:06:03.000]
So we have different product families that I'm going to talk to you about. Today, like the One File product family.
[00:06:07.000]
You also have your Gale InGale Context product family. So we'll talk a little bit about those today so that you have a better understanding.
[00:06:17.000]
But then we also have resources like Chilton Library and Gale Health and Wellness and Gale Interactive Science.
[00:06:24.000]
So those. Resources are also available. So we're let's jump into that and start talking about it right now.
[00:06:25.000]
So to support research periodicals and academic journals, you're going to find your Gale One file product family is going to be a very helpful tool.
[00:06:39.000]
What you'll find in that product I'm going to 1st talk about what we like to call the big 3 and that's general one file.
[00:06:41.000]
Academic one file and Gale one file news. So let's talk a little bit about these before we dive deeper into the other product families.
[00:06:55.000]
Gale one or Gale General One file is Gale's largest general interest periodical resource. It provides access to more than 204 million articles from more than 14,000 magazines newspapers reference books multimedia sources and it's updated daily.
[00:07:14.000]
Academic One file is our premier source for peer reviewed full-text articles for academic research. Research.
[00:07:20.000]
It includes a hundred 10 million, 0 actually over 110 million articles across 19,000 publications with Just under 10,000 in full text.
[00:07:32.000]
And again, this is another resource. They're updated daily. I don't know why I put this in my notes because they're all updated daily, but I like to just trust that these periodical resources are being updated every single day.
[00:07:44.000]
And then the round out our big 3 is Gale One File News. And this provides access to over a 1,100 major US regional, national and local newspapers as well as over 1,700 leading titles from around the world.
[00:07:59.000]
We are a global company. We do publish our own content at Gale, but we also work with fantastic publishers.
[00:08:05.000]
So you are going to find publications from around the world. And all of your Gale resources. And this also includes thousands of images, radio, and TV broadcasts, transcripts.
[00:08:16.000]
Within this resource. Do you others I've decided to pull out and add to this page from the one file collection and there are quite a few subjects specific one file.
[00:08:27.000]
Resources that you have available. A few that I pulled out is one of them is Gale one file inform a academical which is our Spanish and Portuguese periodical publications you'll find in this resource.
[00:08:40.000]
For our educators and future educators, we have Gale one file, file educators reference complete.
[00:08:47.000]
This is a great periodical publication to support the field of education. Then one file information science. Hopefully this is familiar to you all as being librarians access to articles covering all aspects of managing and maintaining information and technology.
[00:09:05.000]
In addition to these I that I mentioned, you also have a number of subject or discipline specific one file periodical resources with peer reviewed journals.
[00:09:17.000]
Again, peer review journals across all of these resources and then to what we like to call a research starter, you have Gale ebooks available.
[00:09:26.000]
There are 20 new titles for your Gale ebooks that live on the Gale ebooks platform.
[00:09:32.000]
So this is a collection that is being selected by the state library. So you'll have, 20 new ebooks available there.
[00:09:42.000]
Please let us know if there's any questions. Entrepreneurs and business so resources for entrepreneurs business courses and investors we are going to go into one of these today and that's Gale Business Insights.
[00:09:56.000]
For our Gale business insights, you're going to find that it has global information.
[00:10:01.000]
So business information for patrons following business trends and stocks and investments. There's market reports.
[00:10:08.000]
SWAT analysis, plunket reports are all available within this resource. You're going to find great company profiles, which I'm really excited to share with you today.
[00:10:11.000]
And it's a great resource for business students. And it's a great resource for business students, academic researchers or business students, academic researchers or just our investors.
[00:10:16.000]
Academic researchers or just our investors, those folks, your patrons that are coming in that are looking to invest.
[00:10:27.000]
We also have Gale Business Entrepreneurship here in the center. This is great for supporting budding entrepreneurs and current small business owners with either planning their business or funding their business.
[00:10:41.000]
Maybe they're looking to start a business or just managing their business. Gale business entrepreneurship is a great resource for that.
[00:10:43.000]
It also includes over 1,100 business plans from the business plans handbook. So if you have that you may have that on your library shelves, you have digital access to it in Gale Business Entrepreneurship.
[00:11:01.000]
2 others I added to this page that don't really line up with entrepreneur and business, but they are 2 that I really wanted to mention to you all today but didn't really have categories for these.
[00:11:05.000]
So you have our readers advisory, which is Gale Books and Authors. On Books and Authors is easy to help patrons find a book with that interests them.
[00:11:22.000]
Books and authors makes finding a great read much less challenging. Also provides fun ways to browse.
[00:11:28.000]
There's read a likes, reviews, award winners, and theme book lists available in Gale Books and Authors.
[00:11:29.000]
And then for our car care guide, you have Chilton Library. Chilton Library may be familiar to you all, those green books that have the really thin pages, our mechanics use them, the nice thing is with Chilton Library, there's digital access to all of that content.
[00:11:50.000]
It serves our everyday consumer, our car enthusiasts to our auto repair and restoration folks. It's also great for CTE and Votech programs if you're working with your schools.
[00:12:02.000]
It has the ASE certification practice test. It has the ASE certification practice test. There's great video library practice test. It has the ASE certification practice test.
[00:12:07.000]
There's great video library practice test. There's great video library, manuals, recall information, and so much more available within this resource.
[00:12:13.000]
The next group I want to talk to you about is focusing more on our in context suite. So where our one file is focused on that periodical content, academic journals.
[00:12:23.000]
Peer reviewed information. Again, large newspaper and magazine collections. Our in context is focused more on the K 12 users, but I don't want to rule all of them in that K 12 category because I like to talk about environmental studies and opposing viewpoints here in our in context suite are great for our patrons and also for our students, our higher ed students.
[00:12:48.000]
So I like to mention that because of the content that's available in those resources. But what you're going to find in your Context resources is their robust resources with trusted reference content.
[00:12:54.000]
They're safe vetted content you're going to find in here. There are period there is periodical information, but great multimedia content including primary sources.
[00:13:09.000]
Creative works, biographies to support, frequently studied. And then all the information here. Cover those frequently studied topics and social studies and science and literature and social issues and so much more.
[00:13:21.000]
You have the 3 what we like to call building blocks. G in context elementary. This is for our kindergarten through 5th grade students.
[00:13:30.000]
Gale In context middle school for our middle schoolers 6th through 8th grade and then Gale In context high school for our 9th through 12th grade students.
[00:13:38.000]
These 3 are general reference cross-curricular. So you're going to find a little bit of all of our in context resources available here within these resources.
[00:13:45.000]
They're also great to support summer reading. We have a lot of libraries that utilize the content available in these.
[00:13:51.000]
Resources to support summer reading to support programming, library programming, along with homeschool help or homework help.
[00:14:03.000]
Great resources for those students that are coming into your library. You also have Gale In context biography, which has that great biographical information covering historical figures to current contemporary figures.
[00:14:17.000]
You have environmental studies covering exactly that. Talking about those environmental issues that we're facing. It talks about renewable energy, alternative energy, that type of information you're going to find available.
[00:14:30.000]
There's great studies in environmental studies. Opposing viewpoints is one of our most popular resources across all markets.
[00:14:33.000]
It is, I also consider this one cross-curricular because of the content that's available.
[00:14:45.000]
Topic social issues controversial issues you're going to find opposing viewpoints looks at both sides of the issue and shows everything, you know, left, right, and center.
[00:14:56.000]
You're going to find all of those viewpoints available in opposing viewpoints. We also have Gale In contact science focusing on that science content, great for middle school and high school students.
[00:15:10.000]
But we also working with Gale in context science, you have Gale Interactive Science. And the nice thing is with these 2 resources, the reference content in Gale Interactive Science is actually being pulled in from Gale and context science.
[00:15:25.000]
What you'll find in Gale In context science is not only all that great contact, but there's simulations available here within that resource.
[00:15:27.000]
Gale Interactive Science has interactive 3D models that I'm going to share with you today.
[00:15:32.000]
And again, you have that cross searching integration available within those resources. So that's your in context.
[00:15:44.000]
Resource family. The last one I want to talk about is for your, well, we like to say National Geographic is for any age.
[00:15:54.000]
The content is so fantastic here. It's National Geographic. You have images and videos and books of available and magazines, all in National Geographic kids.
[00:16:03.000]
And the nice thing is something that we've done over the last spent over a year now, National GeographicGale In Kids is also integrated into Gale In context elementary.
[00:16:13.000]
So you get all of that great content in one spot. So you can use it as a standalone or you can direct your younger users to Gale In Context Elementary and they will have both resources built into one.
[00:16:29.000]
The next group I want to talk about is health and medicine. So these are resources for patron health and wellness and medical professionals and students.
[00:16:38.000]
What we have is for our patrons, we call this more of that consumer health resource. Gale health and wellness.
[00:16:47.000]
This is a great resource looking at it might be for your patrons coming in. Maybe that's caregivers that you have or people taking care of parents at home.
[00:16:56.000]
Maybe it's parents that are looking for more information. To support their students. Even school counselors, this is a great resource for because of the content that that is available, maybe looking at anxiety or depression.
[00:17:04.000]
So those types of topics you'll find not just your physical health, but mental health topics are available in Gale Health and Wellness.
[00:17:16.000]
So again, this is a great one for that consumer for those patrons that are coming into your library.
[00:17:17.000]
Those are the folks I direct to this resource. For your medical professionals, your medical students, your medical researchers, I would direct them to your one file periodical family, health and medicine.
[00:17:35.000]
So this resource nursing and allied health, physical therapy, sports medicine, Gale one file, psychology.
[00:17:43.000]
And I also included academic one file here. These are resources again for those medical students and medical professionals, they can create journal alerts and search alerts in these resources, which is a really helpful tool to have available again with that new updated content being added every single day.
[00:17:58.000]
They can set that up and have emails sent directly to their inbox. And we are going to talk about that today too.
[00:18:09.000]
Now let's go through our crosswalk. And I believe Stacey may have linked that information out for you.
[00:18:15.000]
It looks like she did, but let's go through it here in today's training too. So you can take a look.
[00:18:20.000]
So we start with talking about. That one file collection. Remember, one file is periodical content. Magazines, newspapers, academic journals.
[00:18:32.000]
And you can see the connection or the crosswalk to the EBSCO resources. The next group we talk about is your business resources, scale business insight, entrepreneurship.
[00:18:43.000]
And you can see the connection there. Health and wellness, one file nursing and allied health, one file psychology.
[00:18:51.000]
Looking on the right, you can see that crosswalk. And the list goes on here with our additional one file.
[00:18:52.000]
Collection, what you have from Gale, and what you previously had from EBSCO.
[00:19:00.000]
So you can see a direct correlation direct crosswalk into those resources and all that you're getting.
[00:19:06.000]
And this is just We're covering the in this crosswalk, you're getting additional resources from Gale, like, for example, Gale Interactive Science is a great one to talk about.
[00:19:16.000]
That we don't have a crosswalk connection to because there just isn't 1, but you are getting that.
[00:19:21.000]
So, resource crosswalk for additional one file collections versus the upscale collections you can see on the left.
[00:19:29.000]
As compared to the right.
[00:19:35.000]
The next group is looking at that K 12 homework support. Gale In Context Elementary and National Geographic Kids.
[00:19:43.000]
You have both where here you had just Explorer elementary, middle school, and that connection there.
[00:19:49.000]
And then here on the left, the list of the other in context. Resources, biography, environmental studies, high school opposing viewpoints and science.
[00:20:02.000]
Last one I want to talk about here are Chilton Library. And the crosswalk to automate gale books and authors to novelists, Gale ebooks to Ebsco ebook collection.
[00:20:15.000]
So hopefully that'll help you out again. It's linked out. Stacy shared it in the chat, but also it is on Utah's online public library site.
[00:20:20.000]
You'll find that crosswalk there too. Some tools I want you to keep in mind as we go through the resources.
[00:20:31.000]
You have the ability to share content using the get link tool. You can share content. You can share directly to Google Classroom, which is great for our K 12 folks.
[00:20:35.000]
Or you can send information directly to your Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive. To support accessibility, we have great tools available.
[00:20:45.000]
Translate, you have the ability to increase or decrease the font size. We have display options where we have the open dyslexic font as an option.
[00:20:58.000]
You also have the ability to listen to the text being read aloud. To encourage analysis, we have our highlights and notes tool to promote deeper learning and color coding and annotation.
[00:21:10.000]
Some of these tools I'll touch into, some will wait until we dive in deeper to the resources because this is more of an overview session of what you have available.
[00:21:13.000]
So some of those tools I'm going to save and share with you in future trainings. To support research you have great topic pages available in your resources topic pages are in your in context resources but you'll also find them available in health and wellness.
[00:21:31.000]
You have the ability to browse by discipline and academic one file or browse by topic in general one file.
[00:21:44.000]
So you'll find them in those resources too, but topic pages are great in our in context resources.
[00:21:46.000]
They're looking, we look at, we have content editors and subject specialists that actually are looking at curriculum.
[00:21:50.000]
They're looking at usage. Hearing from you all what's being studied, where the focuses are, and that type, that's how those are created along with what's trending, right?
[00:22:02.000]
So that type of information you'll find on our topic pages. We also have a search option called topic Finder.
[00:22:14.000]
If you're not familiar with Topic Finder, it is a visual representation of your search results and our users love it.
[00:22:21.000]
I'll share that with you today. And of course, citations are attached to every document image video.
[00:22:26.000]
Anything that you'll find in your Gale resources, there is a citation attached, but we have our citation tool where you can change the format.
[00:22:33.000]
You can choose where you'd like to export it to and I'll share that with you today.
[00:22:38.000]
Alright, so with that, let's dive into the resources. Please let me know if you have any questions.
[00:22:45.000]
Let's go into 1st I want to share with you that support page real quick, but we're going to switch gears and go right into the resource.
[00:22:53.000]
But I just want to give you an example of what you'll find there. So on the right are all of the upcoming webinars.
[00:23:00.000]
If you scroll down, you can go directly to our training and marketing materials. So if I click into training.
[00:23:11.000]
Here I can see specific trainings for Utah, which are here at the top. We have a recorded webinar.
[00:23:12.000]
It's a getting started webinar. And then the tip sheet that we have available to answer. So it's a FAQ to answer some of those questions.
[00:23:19.000]
But we also have training by product. So if I wanted everything for Chilton Library. If I open that drop-down menu, here's everything we have available.
[00:23:37.000]
So we have slide ducks available if you are in charge of training at your library, we have you covered.
[00:23:43.000]
We also have added toolkits. So you'll see these training toolkits where it takes you from from the basics to where you can go for help and we take you through step by step we curate this information for you into a toolkit to help you get started with the resources.
[00:23:54.000]
And of course we have tutorials and resource guides, but it's nice and organized here in the training center.
[00:24:05.000]
On your support site. And then in our marketing center
[00:24:11.000]
Similar situation where we have all of the resources available. I open that dropdown menu. You can see all the marketing materials we have available for the resource.
[00:24:19.000]
Quite a few here. Okay, so let's jump into our 1st resource and we are going to actually start with an in context resource.
[00:24:32.000]
And I've selected middle school. It's 1 of the building blacks and I picked middle of the road.
[00:24:37.000]
So, Gale In context middle school, I love to show opposing viewpoints but wanted to share this one with you today.
[00:24:38.000]
We'll dive into opposing viewpoints in our in contact session. So, Gale in Context Middle School, Crosscurricular, General Reference for our 6th through 8th grade students.
[00:24:53.000]
I am signed in at the very top. I have the ability to sign in with Google or Microsoft. Those of you that are working with schools, let them know that if they are set up with Google Classroom and they sign in and they're set up as a teacher, they can automatically post information directly to Google Classroom from within the resource.
[00:25:12.000]
We have a tool to support accessibility right here on the homepage. You have the ability to translate the navigational tools.
[00:25:20.000]
We are at, I believe over 34 languages now. Here that I can translate my navigational tools to.
[00:25:26.000]
So that would translate all these navigational tools in the contextual toolbar over here with my.
[00:25:27.000]
And the nice thing is with your Gale resources, you're going to find the tools and features shared across all of your resources.
[00:25:38.000]
Consistency is extremely important to us at Gale and if we're starting the Mountain Elementary with these tools as they grow and join your public library as a patron, they will see those tools and features in the same spot.
[00:25:51.000]
So it really helps keep it consistent for all of our users at any age. Very important to us at Gale.
[00:25:57.000]
I'll talk a little bit more about consistency and what you're going to find within your Gale resources as we work through them.
[00:26:04.000]
So looking at the homepage, we have topics of interest that are are changed monthly. We also have some subject categories here on the homepage, which would then take me to our topic pages, which I mentioned in the PowerPoint.
[00:26:18.000]
I'll share that with you in a moment here. We also have the ability to jump right into Topic Finder, which again is that visual search option we have.
[00:26:27.000]
Curriculum standards are here. So if I wanted my state standards or national standards and find content directly connected or related to them, I could use my curriculum standards.
[00:26:37.000]
We also have some educator resources here. There's some library specific librarian resources here too. Just wanted to touch on those so you know what all is available.
[00:26:48.000]
But we are going to go into a topic page. Now I could go through science. And find my topic page of endangered species here.
[00:26:58.000]
Or if I were to do a basic search and middle schoolers are about 50, 50, 50% of the time they're doing a basic search, 50% of the time, they're jumping right to a topic page.
[00:27:10.000]
But if I start to type it into basic search, you can see it's actually pops up to the top of my list here and it's bolded.
[00:27:16.000]
So that tells me that I have a topic page available for endangered species.
[00:27:23.000]
Now when I'm in the topic page, you can see I have an image and essay overview.
[00:27:27.000]
This is a great place for students to get started. My contextual toolbar is up here in the upper right hand corner.
[00:27:34.000]
I can still browse all my topics. Topic Finder is here, my search history, so my basic search would show up here.
[00:27:41.000]
I have my get link tool. So if I wanted to share this topic page, I could use my get link tool.
[00:27:47.000]
It would create a persistent URL back to this exact spot.
[00:27:52.000]
Or I can pull it directly into Google Classroom, both work the same. I also have my highlights and notes feature available here.
[00:28:00.000]
Looking at the topic page itself, I have all of my content types available here in this nice bar nice and organized so I can quickly jump to if I wanted to go to all of my reference content I could or maybe I wanted to jump to related topics I have both options available there.
[00:28:11.000]
I have the ability to search within. So I can quickly drill down just. Information that is on this from information that is on this topic page.
[00:28:27.000]
So that's a great feature. Our users love, especially our students love that feature and you're going to find that across your gale resources.
[00:28:35.000]
That search within. You have all of this all the content is organized in these boxes. I scroll down I want to share with you at the bottom of the page.
[00:28:46.000]
Related topic pages. So again you can go from our endangered species to say Jane Goodall and find that information or maybe I'm interested in invasive species.
[00:28:53.000]
I can jump there. Let's take a look at that image and essay overview. And I want to talk to you about a few items here.
[00:29:03.000]
So 1st reading levels and the upper left-hand corner, you have the ability to change the reading level.
[00:29:08.000]
We're at a 1010 or Lexile measure or we can change it to a lower lexel measure to an 800, and 40.
[00:29:17.000]
Always a great option. You can see the image change. So that helped me understand that I made a change here.
[00:29:22.000]
This one has some main ideas as a text feature there. If I go back to my higher level.
[00:29:31.000]
This one has fast facts. So a little bit of change there. It really depends on our elementary. I know we have a lot of words to know.
[00:29:40.000]
So vocabulary you'll see and then main ideas for the higher level. So we add in some of that content, but again, an essay overview of the content we have available.
[00:29:43.000]
Great place for students to get started at when they're doing their their work working on their projects. Another option that we have available is the ability to filter by content types.
[00:30:00.000]
So I'm gonna go into reference. And I can click here in the title. I can use my can my toolbar here with all my content types or I also have the ability to view all here.
[00:30:08.000]
So all 3 options are available. We just want you to access all that great information. So on the right hand side I have the ability to filter my results.
[00:30:21.000]
I'm gonna build on this knowledge here in our other resources again showing that consistency. What I'm going to touch into you can see all of the different options we have available.
[00:30:31.000]
But what I want to focus on in middle school is the ability to filter by content level. So we have 5 different content levels.
[00:30:39.000]
I always tell folks if you remember a level 3 is middle school, then it makes it easy. Fours and fives are generally high school and into undergrad.
[00:30:48.000]
Ones and twos are elementary. What I'm gonna find mainly in this resources level 3 because I'm in a middle school resource.
[00:30:54.000]
But But I may want some Level Force 2 for a bit of a challenge. We have teachers that create tech sets and this is a great tool for them.
[00:31:02.000]
So if you again are working with schools, share this information. Now I filtered down not only my reference content, but all of my content at once.
[00:31:06.000]
This is a great way too to share using the get link tool to share this filtered content. So keep that in mind.
[00:31:18.000]
As an option when you're working your library programming, you're working with families or homeschoolers or homework help that type of information.
[00:31:24.000]
This is a great tool that you can utilize in that library programming. Across, again, all of your Gale resources.
[00:31:35.000]
Alright, the other thing I wanted to share with you is our tools to support accessibility. They live here at the top of the page once you're in a document.
[00:31:44.000]
So I clicked into biodiversity. We have the ability to translate the text. Into over 50 languages?
[00:31:52.000]
And it'll translate that text also. The listen button. So we're at 50 languages in the text.
[00:31:59.000]
We're at, I believe it's 25 now for a listen feature and there are most used most popular languages.
[00:32:05.000]
So if I translate the text and to say Spanish and then click the listen button, it will read that text allowed to me in Spanish.
[00:32:14.000]
You also have the ability to decrease or increase the font size. And also change the display options.
[00:32:21.000]
Let me share with you display options. You have the colors behind your text. So, and if white isn't something that you, need want to meet the varying needs of our users, if I need a gray background or more of that paper.
[00:32:28.000]
Color background, I can change that. So the text. Now has that gray background. I can change my font.
[00:32:40.000]
We even have open dyslexic available. And I can also increase my line, letter, and word spacing.
[00:32:48.000]
And the nice thing is with this feature is it will stick with me throughout my session. So if I were to go to another reference document, Let's say.
[00:33:00.000]
This one. You can see it stuck with me even though I moved to a different document. So once you set it up on the 1st one, it sticks with you.
[00:33:09.000]
If I want to go back, all I do is open that box back up and click back to default settings.
[00:33:15.000]
But listen feature is also here. We're going to cover listen in a future session. It's fairly intuitive information.
[00:33:16.000]
There are some great features I really want to highlight in that tool. But again, this is that broad overview.
[00:33:27.000]
We do have great video tutorials if you want to dive in deeper now. But knowing that you open that box, click that listen button.
[00:33:35.000]
It will read the text aloud to you. There's additional features under this more button that I encourage you to explore on your own or we'll cover it in the next session.
[00:33:44.000]
You also have great workflow tools, the ability to send information directly to Google Drive, Microsoft Onedrive, email, download, and print.
[00:33:52.000]
The nice thing is with your Gale resources, you will always have content in HTML. That's what you're seeing now.
[00:33:55.000]
But not only that, you have that download feature where you can download content as a PDF. So again, consistency.
[00:34:03.000]
It's not one or the other. You will always have it in HTML. And you have that PDF option also available.
[00:34:12.000]
So keep that in mind as you are working through all of your gale resources. You don't have to make a choice.
[00:34:18.000]
We provide provide both options for you. Okay, we talked about tools to support accessibility. We talked briefly about these workflow tools that you have available.
[00:34:27.000]
Now I'm gonna switch gears and we're going to go into one of your periodical resources.
[00:34:28.000]
So let's go into Gale General One file.
[00:34:38.000]
I am already signed in with Google and Microsoft. Again, if there's any questions, just let us know.
[00:34:39.000]
We're happy to answer any questions that you have. Gale General one file. This is your has a very the largest general reference periodical collection.
[00:34:48.000]
Oh, and now of course it jumps me out even though I'm already in. Let me log back in there.
[00:34:58.000]
And I'm accessing this is a great teachable moment. Product menu. This is a product menu that you have access to.
[00:34:59.000]
It is lists all of your Gale resources. So like I said, on that slide in the PowerPoint, I did not list everything because there's just too much to list there.
[00:35:14.000]
So all those one file collections are there. We are going into general one file if I wanted to quickly filter to my periodicals I can just click on periodicals and there's Gale General one file right at the top.
[00:35:28.000]
And let me sign in with Google again. There we go. My on my own computer so it remembered that information for me to keep it simple.
[00:35:36.000]
So with our one file, again, something I want to stress, with these resources, you have a lower embargo rate for full text titles versus other resources that you previously had.
[00:35:47.000]
You are going to find with your gale resources the most accurate indexing on the market. We have over 1.2 million articles that are manually indexed each year really making Gale that you unique with its most accurate indexing again on the market.
[00:36:03.000]
You're going to find quicker load times. For publications such as the New York Times and Library Journal and U.S.A. Today.
[00:36:10.000]
And then again, on that user friendly, consistent platform with all of the same tools and features. So again, remember one file.
[00:36:13.000]
Is our periodical resources where in context is focused more towards that K 12 audience but also don't forget about opposing viewpoints, but has more that robust multimedia topic pages type content.
[00:36:33.000]
So looking at Gale General one file. There are topics listed here on the homepage to help guide your patrons.
[00:36:42.000]
We of course have basic search and advanced search at the top. I did already sign in and then my contextual toolbar is here.
[00:36:49.000]
On the homepage, you can see we have topic finders, subject guide search and publication search.
[00:36:54.000]
These 3 also live under advanced search. You'll always find them there, but they do live on the home page too.
[00:37:01.000]
So you'll find them in both places. Let's go into computers and technology.
[00:37:06.000]
And we are going to look at artificial intelligence.
[00:37:12.000]
Now you can see we went through a path. We took, we went through our looked at our topics of interest and went through that path, but we don't land on a topic page like we do in our in context.
[00:37:22.000]
So there's a difference there. Lindy had asked prior to the start of this session and that there's another difference there.
[00:37:28.000]
So you can see it takes us right into that content. It takes us to all of the content types.
[00:37:33.000]
I can see all of my information here that I have available, magazines, academic journals, books.
[00:37:40.000]
Our academic journal is something I want to point out real quick with you all is if you see if you're looking for peer reviewed you can see right in the summary if it is a peer reviewed academic journal we have a little checkmark there and you have the ability to filter to specifically peer-reviewed journals.
[00:37:57.000]
So that's 1 of your filter options here. Great to know for your researchers or if you're working with your higher ed folks.
[00:38:04.000]
You also have the ability to filter your results and I can filter down if I'm looking for by publication date, subject, document type, title sections, this applies to our newspapers, lexile measure is here, and then that ability to search within.
[00:38:20.000]
So I said search within is available and it is always available in filter your results and then in our in context.
[00:38:21.000]
We saw it right there on our home or on our topic page in that left-hand corner so you have it in both places.
[00:38:33.000]
For Today I'm going to filter by publication date and look at the last year. And it filters again all of my content at once if I wanted to use my get link tool to share this in my library programming I could.
[00:38:45.000]
I have that option available again in my contextual toolbar.
[00:38:50.000]
If I wanted to pull this content into topic finder, let's do that. Now, I filter the results.
[00:38:56.000]
I'm actually going to remove that filter because I want to show you everything. Well, before I do, let me select this article and then we'll go into topic finder because I want to share with you 2.
[00:39:08.000]
When I'm in this article, you can see a couple different things. Things are hyperlinked out, meaning that we have related articles to this topic.
[00:39:16.000]
Of AI and computers. So you're going to find and see that hyperlinked information where you can Go to additional articles.
[00:39:25.000]
Great for our researchers. We also have this explore panel on the right hand side, supplemental information based on the article or document that you're in.
[00:39:28.000]
You can access more information more like this takes you to additional articles. You can also see related subjects. I wanted to point that Explorer panel out.
[00:39:43.000]
It's a great helpful tool that's available there on the right hand side and again consistent. You'll find this in your one file and your in context resources.
[00:39:53.000]
Okay, topic finder is what I wanted to share with you next. So let me go back to my results.
[00:40:00.000]
And go in directly into Topic Finder. Now, topic Finder lives here below my filter your results in your in context resources you'll find it also in your contextual toolbar and of course you can kick off your search from the homepage using Topic Finder, but I want to pull in my search results so I can share them with you.
[00:40:19.000]
So both options are available. I can start my search with Topic Finder or I can pull in my results this way.
[00:40:26.000]
And again, it's visual, it's interactive. You have 2 different options. We are defaulted to the tiles, but you also have wheel the wheel available.
[00:40:36.000]
It's purely preference. Tiles are a little bit more popular, so they landed here and they are our default.
[00:40:44.000]
We are going, so what you're going to find are these great tiles, the deeper the color, the larger the tile, the more information we have under that subject heading.
[00:40:51.000]
The 3 dots just means that we couldn't fit. Labor market into that little spot or wins excellence into that little spot there.
[00:41:00.000]
So I'm going to click into let's click into report. And this is a way that I'm drilling down into that content.
[00:41:08.000]
So if I'm looking at global artificial intelligence, I can select that tile. And you can see on the right hand side with 2 clicks, it's taking me to 8 results.
[00:41:18.000]
It's also great for those keywords that maybe your users or researchers, your patrons coming into your library hadn't necessarily thought about.
[00:41:27.000]
So it's a great use for that. Not only is it visual, but it does support that learning that's happening in your library.
[00:41:34.000]
So again, it was just 2 quick searches where I can access any of these documents on the right hand side.
[00:41:40.000]
I click reset. And it takes me back to that full view again. I can go into another area like generate AI.
[00:41:49.000]
And machine learning. Now I'm at 5 different documents. So it really is a great way to drill down that content.
[00:41:55.000]
And again, it lives, always lives under advanced search. It lives on the homepage. If I wanted to do, let's say I wanted to do a search, if I wanted to kick off a search here, I could do that too.
[00:42:06.000]
I'm gonna do this 2 ways for you today.
[00:42:13.000]
Taking a second to load. There we go. So I just changed it to climate change. And you can see the difference, how it loads, and all of the content that is there.
[00:42:25.000]
Looking at health, maybe I'm interested in new studies. There's 14 different documents available.
[00:42:32.000]
Okay. Sticking with that idea of topic. Climate change for the topic. I don't have to go back to the homepage.
[00:42:40.000]
I can do a basic search from any spot within the resource. I know I did topic finder, but I want to do a basic search this way because I want to show you a feature that's available.
[00:42:49.000]
In the resource. So I've done a basic search on climate change. It's taking me to a lot of great content.
[00:42:59.000]
I can sort by, it's defaulted to relevance, but if I wanted newest or oldest, I could do that.
[00:43:06.000]
I can filter down and this is where I would filter down because I have a lot of content available. So I'm going to filter down by subject and we are going to do climate change and global warming together.
[00:43:19.000]
And take a look at those results. Now something I can do when you've done a basic search or an advanced search, if I want to set up search alerts, I have that capability.
[00:43:28.000]
As you noticed here in my toolbar, search alert exists. So if I select search alert, it gives me that opportunity to set up an email or an RSS feed.
[00:43:38.000]
I can determine how often I want to receive that email. Is it something I want weekly? I can set it up that way.
[00:43:44.000]
So anytime new information is added, I'll get that email or that search alert. We also have it available for our journals so you can set up journal alerts within your one file resources.
[00:43:56.000]
So this is a difference. In context and one file, one file has this capability to set up those search alerts.
[00:44:04.000]
So again, do a basic search. You have that ability to set up a search alert. I'm going to share.
[00:44:10.000]
One of the libraries I worked with recently shared with me that they don't have library journal, so now they do through their state resources and they actually set up search alerts for their library and their director, which I thought was really interesting.
[00:44:25.000]
It was a marketing person that was in one of my training sessions at a library conference. And they shared that information because they have Google Alert set up, but they weren't getting information.
[00:44:32.000]
Library journals, so they set up a search alert. So anytime their library or their director was mentioned, they were getting that information.
[00:44:42.000]
So very interesting way to use it. But something to consider. That you now have that option available. Okay, let me know if there's any questions on that resource, but we're going to jump into Gale Interactive Science and it has not timed me out.
[00:44:58.000]
Excellent. So, Gale Interactive Science, again, interactive activities, 3D models you're going to find here.
[00:45:04.000]
There's multiple ways to find the content. Searching at the top basic search for activities you can browse all the activities over here to the right hand side.
[00:45:13.000]
I'm going to click on that. Where I have all of my activities listed. There's 234 different activities.
[00:45:21.000]
Anytime and in your gale resources anytime you want to go back to a homepage just click in the banner on the title of the resource, it'll take you back to the homepage, little tip and trick.
[00:45:32.000]
And then we have our subject categories below. You also have 3D printable models, so very fun if you have a 3D printer at your library.
[00:45:34.000]
And you want to print off those 3D models you have that available you can download them here and print them off for your library.
[00:45:47.000]
There's so many fantastic options here available.
[00:45:56.000]
I do suggest too taking a look at our introduction or getting started here at the top that's scrolling. You'll have that information.
[00:45:59.000]
Those are great places to get started with the resources. Or again, if I was looking at a specific category, let's go into human anatomy.
[00:46:13.000]
All of the activities are listed and you can see everything's been selected because I clicked on that topic.
[00:46:20.000]
All of the activities below this topic have been selected. Okay, something else we have available is a common core state standards or the ability to filter 2 activities using the NGSS standards.
[00:46:35.000]
And you can see tags below each of these activities. Listed. Now I chose this one. I want to actually filter down.
[00:46:43.000]
I'm going to quick do a quick search to save us some time because this topic actually came up with my dad and he is a public library patron.
[00:46:52.000]
And he actually has a. And I showed him this resource because he went into his doctor and his doctor was trying to explain things to him and he wasn't fully understanding and needed that visual.
[00:47:01.000]
So I show up shared with them our resource and he was so excited that he actually took it in and shown.
[00:47:09.000]
Showed his heart actor, which I'm sure he loved that. But It helped my dad and you have public library patrons that yes, they're going to use health and wellness, but maybe a tool like this, something like this might help them too, right?
[00:47:22.000]
It's gonna help them too, right? It's gonna help your researchers. It's going to help students love this resource. It's going to help students love this resource, right?
[00:47:28.000]
So, but keep that in mind that it can be used in other ways too. So I clicked into the heart.
[00:47:34.000]
The activity is loaded here at the top of my page. I have some views available. We're going to dive into this deeper into another training session down the road.
[00:47:42.000]
I just want to share with you a couple items. You're seeing the summary. Here's all of my reference content, which will change as I work through these slides.
[00:47:44.000]
At the end, there are quiz questions. These aren't graded. These aren't, these are just to check for understanding their formative quizzes that are available for students to really test themselves.
[00:48:01.000]
But and all the information is listed here on the left as I work through the slides. You can see.
[00:48:06.000]
The model changes. I'm going to change this to theater view so you can see this a little better.
[00:48:07.000]
Something else you can do is I can right-click and I can rotate this. I can zoom in and zoom out.
[00:48:20.000]
I can pull it apart. So when you're talking about, as you can see, this was really helpful to my dad to understand what in his heart was where the problem was.
[00:48:30.000]
And, and like I said, a just a better understanding of that, that visual side. This is the heart chambers.
[00:48:38.000]
As I click next, this is talking about the valves. Very important, but understanding again, this is talking about the valves, very important, but understanding again.
[00:48:45.000]
As I go through each of the Oops, I zoomed in too far. As I go through each of the tiles, it'll reset itself.
[00:48:51.000]
The previous one. So if I have pulled it apart or dissected it. I have that option available.
[00:48:57.000]
Speaking of dissection, we do have a fetal pig on here, which I know is part of dissection.
[00:49:02.000]
We have frogs. We have those types of things available. But again, can rotate with by right clicking and pull it apart.
[00:49:09.000]
I can move these labels out of the way too, even if I have moved a section, removed a section and it doesn't have a label.
[00:49:12.000]
If I put my cursor over top it will give me that label. Okay, so have fun with this resource exploring it.
[00:49:25.000]
Again, this is Gale interactive science. You're getting all of this great reference content. There's all of our tools, again, consistency, right?
[00:49:32.000]
From Gale in contact science. So you're getting and some of our, some of it's coming in from one file periodical content.
[00:49:39.000]
So you're getting that great content there too. All right, we are getting close to the end of our time.
[00:49:45.000]
So I just want to share with you one more resource for our business. So I'm trying to cover a little bit of everything today in our overview session.
[00:49:48.000]
And this time we are going to go in and go back to that product menu. We are going to go into one of our business resources and that's scale business insights.
[00:50:03.000]
Please let us know if there's anything you'd like us to go over again. What I want to talk to you about in Gale Business Insights is what you're going to see here in your results.
[00:50:13.000]
So right from the homepage, we take you to company profiles. I love these profiles.
[00:50:18.000]
They really give you a great, great information, a great visual. It's organized, I'm so user friendly here that you have available.
[00:50:25.000]
So. It starts with our. Company profiles, then below that our top business publication, so looking for industry specific information, you're going to find those publications.
[00:50:37.000]
You're looking to do research by topic. You have that information as the next section. You can explore specific industries.
[00:50:45.000]
And then understand major markets. So that's all on the homepage. You have that option to browse through each of these on the left hand side.
[00:50:53.000]
On Thursday, we will be covering all of our business resources, so if you'd like to come back and join me for another session, this is one we're going to talk about.
[00:51:01.000]
So I'm just going to touch into a little bit today. To explore, we're going to go to one of those and I love to go to the Amazon one, but let go to one of those.
[00:51:10.000]
Company profiles. So company profile, great information at the top. We have an overview. You have some hyperlinked information.
[00:51:19.000]
Here takes you to more company details or in-depth articles. If I wanted to see the full SWAT analysis, I can select the ability to read that.
[00:51:23.000]
Here's an explanation of what . That is Below we have financial performance, so I can go to the full balance sheet.
[00:51:36.000]
When I select any of these, I still can access all of them from the same tab. So if I select full balance sheet.
[00:51:45.000]
I still have that income statement cash flow ratios investment reports SCC filings I have all that information available that I can work through from the balance sheet.
[00:51:54.000]
And You can see you have some filter options on the left hand side and I can download this data. So not only great for our researchers, but also for our students.
[00:52:06.000]
And. Investors too. I'm looking for that income statement.
[00:52:11.000]
I have that information. And again, I can quickly jump back to that company profile.
[00:52:22.000]
That was a full balance sheet if I go into full cash work flow.
[00:52:27.000]
Or sorry, cash flow statement. Again, you can see I was on balance sheet, but here, so you can see I can maneuver through this.
[00:52:36.000]
I don't have to constantly go back to the profile to access that next. Section. So something to keep in mind.
[00:52:44.000]
Hopefully your users, it's very intuitive, so hopefully they'll, they'll see that option.
[00:52:50.000]
We also have financial performance available here. Below that competitors we have specific industry information and then all of our article content.
[00:52:59.000]
So this should look familiar, right? Your gale resources here, you've got those nice boxes of organized content below.
[00:53:07.000]
If we were to go into industry-specific information.
[00:53:13.000]
Talking about other all other miscellaneous retailers. From here, I can actually go to, and this is on the home page.
[00:53:17.000]
We saw that on the homepage, but if I wanted to look at specific countries, I can look at that information from even from our one of our sections here, industry profile section here, information.
[00:53:38.000]
I click on China and I get all of the top companies by revenue in China.
[00:53:45.000]
So again, more of that global perspective. Of business and what's happening around the world. You can get all of that content available here in Gale Business Insights.
[00:53:57.000]
Okay, so with that we've got a couple minutes less left. I don't we don't have any questions that came in.
[00:54:03.000]
Please let me know if you have any questions. I'd like to take you back to our support site.
[00:54:09.000]
Our PowerPoint. I'm trying to make a decision here if I since now let's stick with the plan.
[00:54:15.000]
I would I was going to jump into one more resource but I don't don't want to push us too far so let me go back to our PowerPoint.
[00:54:29.000]

[00:00:45.000]

Any, in our contact information, I will share at the end of today's training, you will receive follow-up emails from me that have my contact information, so please feel free to reach out and ask any questions that you have.
Because something I want to share with you is a question that's come up of the state library has been fielding this question a little bit so I want to make sure that you know that title lists are available.
[00:54:41.000]

[00:54:49.000]
You can see the link here at the at the bottom. It takes you directly to those title lists. I do suggest clicking on additional.
[00:54:57.000]
And going to the specific resource. So if you're looking at Gale General One file, click on additional.
[00:55:02.000]
