Welcome to your training for the Tennessee Electronic Library today's session is creating custom collections in gale ebooks, minority.
[00:00:11.000]
Burke, I'm your Gale trainer. Any questions that you have throughout the session.
[00:00:12.000]
Please, feel free, to use the Q. A. Box today I will start with providing you with a little bit of information about gale ebooks, but my go today is for you all to leave with understanding how you can curate your own custom collections with your Guale, ebooks now these e-books could be
[00:00:34.000]
you could have solely the collection that you have from the Tennessee Electronic library, or you may have additional ebooks that you've purchased from Gale for your library available on your account so either way no matter if they're coming from the state or if they're ones you've
[00:00:48.000]
purchased yourself if they all live on the same location, id they will all be available in gale ebooks, and you will be able to cure them into your own custom collections.
[00:01:00.000]
A brief agenda of today's session.
[00:01:01.000]
We will start with access to the TEL resources, and then talk about gale ebooks.
[00:01:07.000]
I'll provide you with an overview of gale ebooks create.
[00:01:12.000]
We will create custom collections, and then also where you can go to find your gale admin credentials, any questions that you have.
[00:01:19.000]
I encourage you to ask throughout the session, but I will say on at the end of the session, if there's any additional questions, I'll also share with you some training materials.
[00:01:28.000]
We do have a document specifically talking about how to curate your custom collections, so I will share that during this session today.
[00:01:37.000]
But it does live on the gale, support site and then also contact information.
[00:01:41.000]
As I mentioned for your customer success managers, and also for our technical support.
[00:01:47.000]
Folks that can help you with your admin credentials.
[00:01:52.000]
First. Let's talk about access to your TEL resources. You can utilize the TEL site.
[00:01:53.000]
I love the telescope. The very first page always gives you great article information, so anything that's new, any new addition or additional resources or updates that have happened to any resources you're going to find it right there on that homepage.
[00:02:12.000]
But it's a nice organized place to find content.
[00:02:14.000]
There is also a place for librarians to find a additional information.
[00:02:18.000]
If you need your Geo. Links for your you are, or for your resources.
[00:02:19.000]
You can find a tutorial that we've created for you, and also the links you can pull for your individual library so that your users can click, into let's say their excessing a gale.
[00:02:37.000]
Resource. They click right into that link, and they are not prompted for a password.
[00:02:42.000]
So that helps out a lot. When you want direct access into the resource.
[00:02:47.000]
But you do have to utilize those Geo links that you have available.
[00:02:52.000]
Let's first talk about Gale ebooks, and this may be a review for those of you on the line today.
[00:02:57.000]
But if not, I just want to make sure I cover it before you leave me today.
[00:02:58.000]
So you have an understanding of what the gale ebooks platform is, and what all is available.
[00:03:02.000]
There! So this is just a brief summary of that. It is 24 over 7 content that is available anywhere.
[00:03:08.000]
Your users have access to a browser, and your URL or your library site.
[00:03:22.000]
To your gale ebooks, they can access the content that's available there.
[00:03:24.000]
There's unlimited, simultaneous access that's available,
[00:04:52.000]
So unlimited, simultaneous access to your ebook collection.
[00:04:59.000]
No holds or returns, because there is no check in or check out mobile responsive.
[00:05:06.000]
Your gale ebooks, platform is mobile responses, and you have a very intuitive search and browse feature.
[00:05:14.000]
I always imagine having having all of these eBooks available in front of me as print texts and if I was accessing the print copy of this of all of these books and this entire collection how hard it would be to search through that and find exactly what I'm looking for with your Gale
[00:05:31.000]
ebooks platform. It's a very quick search, and there's some great browse features that are available. Nothing.
[00:05:35.000]
We're gonna go over today. But we did go over this in our session just before the Thanksgiving break.
[00:05:42.000]
Search option. You have available in gale ebooks is topic finder.
[00:05:45.000]
It's a visual representation of your search results.
[00:05:46.000]
It's also interactive, and you can translate the text in all of your ebooks into over 40 languages, so you can meet your users where they need to be met where they're learning at where they're where they're exploring or researching it they could translate into over 40
[00:06:03.000]
Languages you have the ability to turn the text to speech and also download that text to speech feature that listen.
[00:06:12.000]
Option as an and then it your resources also integrated with Google, Microsoft and learning management systems such as canvas or schoology, alright great Carol!
[00:06:24.000]
I'm glad that you can hear us now. So when you access your gale ebooks platform, you will find on the left hand side your collections.
[00:06:33.000]
Now some of the collections, the ones mainly listed at the top are automatically generated by Gale, and if you're looking at the list, if you scroll down a little further you can see here some resources super simple makerspace steam challenge so you can see some custom collection have
[00:06:50.000]
Already been created, and this is on the Tennessee electronic libraries, gale ebooks location, id so I you are accessing through.
[00:07:01.000]
TEL this is, you would see this information, but we encourage you to use your own direct urls, and customize this collection.
[00:07:08.000]
However, your users need with these ebooks what they're working on, you can customize it.
[00:07:10.000]
What best works for them, or maybe to support your programming or support courses.
[00:07:19.000]
If you're at the higher LED level, those of you coming from K.
[00:07:22.000]
12 can support many classes or subject areas. There's all kinds of different options that you can customize this collection just like you would curate your print books.
[00:07:30.000]
It's the same idea you do have this librarian login, and that's what I'm going to share with you today this is where you can create and edit your collections.
[00:07:36.000]
And you do need that admin user Id and password, and this is provided to our administrators at your location.
[00:07:47.000]
Where you can go for that. If you're not really sure what that information is, you can reach out to our gale technical support team and let me put their email address in the chat real quick
[00:08:06.000]
And those that are watching the recording. You have it right there on the screen
[00:08:13.000]
There you go!
[00:08:16.000]
Okay. So with that, let's start curating our collection.
[00:08:19.000]
So I'm gonna go right into my Tennessee electronic library ebook collection, and I want to talk to you about a couple of different things.
[00:08:24.000]
I was thinking about the session and and there's one other option that I want to share with you.
[00:08:33.000]
As you are thinking about the ebooks that you have available, or even discovering all the titles that you do have available.
[00:08:36.000]
So you can see right away on the home page. You do have those collections on the left-hand side.
[00:08:40.000]
I can see each of those collections like the Arts.
[00:08:48.000]
Collection has 7 titles to see all of the titles in that collection.
[00:08:51.000]
I can simply click on the title here above the covers, or using my navigation on the left hand side.
[00:08:54.000]
I can click on arts, and it'll show me all 7 titles.
[00:09:04.000]
Maybe you want the entire list. Well, you can find that up here in your your contextual toolbar.
[00:09:11.000]
You have title, list
[00:09:15.000]
And this will provide you with
[00:09:20.000]
Let me see all of your titles. I'm why am I only seeing that?
[00:09:25.000]
Oh, because I was in the collection. Okay, so here, let's go back to the to that home page one.
[00:09:30.000]
And this is a good learning example. When you select a certain collection and then click on title list that's all you're going to see it filters it for you but from the home.
[00:09:37.000]
Page. If I click on title list. This is what you're going to find.
[00:09:46.000]
All of the titles, but you do have to be on all titles now, if you wanted more detailed information about them, you can download the information or export as A.
[00:09:56.000]
Csv file an excel file, or a Kbart file.
[00:10:00.000]
They are all here and available within the resource itself, and when you do download I'm going to download it as an excel file
[00:10:10.000]
This may be helpful to you as you are curating that list to really see all of the titles that you do have available.
[00:10:17.000]
So what you will find is, and let me open this up real quick and share with you.
[00:10:23.000]
You're going to have the Ibm number, so that may be helpful
[00:10:31.000]
To have because I'll show you in a moment why, you might need that.
[00:10:35.000]
That Isbn number. But this is a way that you can have that entire list all of the information that you need.
[00:10:36.000]
The the titles, and also the Ispn number
[00:10:49.000]
Alright. Let me go back to my browser
[00:15:22.000]
Below your custom, collections is where you have that librarian login when you you can log out at this point, you can manage your collection, so you do have to.
[00:15:32.000]
When you log in, and I'll start over librarian login.
[00:15:37.000]
I can enter in my information. Let me grab that information again
[00:15:48.000]
I'm happy and pasting it in to make my life a little simpler
[00:15:53.000]
And once I do, then it takes me to this screen where I can manage my Ebook collection. Okay.
[00:16:00.000]
Now, a couple of things I shared with you were. I have that ability to enable or disable a collection so here's the arts collection.
[00:16:12.000]
All I have to do to disable it is click on this little C right here, where it says, enabled I just move the Slider to, and it'll disable it for me and what that. Is again.
[00:16:19.000]
Is it will hide that collection from my list.
[00:16:26.000]
If I want to reorder my collection I can simply click and drag any of these boxes to wherever I want in the list.
[00:16:36.000]
And it automatically saves wherever I drag, that it automatically saves that information
[00:16:46.000]
If I want to create a new collection over here on the right hand side is where I have the blue button that says new collection
[00:16:58.000]
And this is where it automatically is enabled. This is where I can name Michael.
[00:17:04.000]
So whatever name you put in is what you're going to see in that left hand navigation, and I was using science and medicine
[00:17:15.000]
Oops. There we go, and then these are titles on science and medicine.
[00:17:26.000]
You can add in whatever description you would like? There, now, at this point, as I mentioned, I could save this, but I'm gonna go right to adding the titles.
[00:17:34.000]
So when I click, add titles, it takes me to this option, where I can either searched by subject title, or there's that Isbn, number, or a description.
[00:17:46.000]
So as I shared with you previously. That's screen that stayed on this on our session far too long the excel spreadsheet, if I needed those ispn numbers that's where you can find them all so your entire collection just download I downloaded as an
[00:18:00.000]
Excel file. I could use those item numbers and enter them all in.
[00:18:04.000]
But for today's training I'm just going to do a search.
[00:18:07.000]
I'm gonna do a search on science first and take a look at the titles.
[00:18:12.000]
I have available, and here they are listed below to select those titles, and you.
[00:18:19.000]
I want you to point out that I am showing only one of 4 pages right now to add those titles to the collection.
[00:18:27.000]
All I do is click on them so if I want to add and you can see I get that nice screen checkmark, the world of forensic science, the Encyclopedia of Gale encyclopedia of science I want this one on biology.
[00:18:41.000]
Let's look down here. Ethics and science.
[00:18:50.000]
There we go, and then I'm going to go to the next page and to scroll to the next page.
[00:18:55.000]
I do have to scroll back up to the top
[00:18:59.000]
Hopefully. You're seeing this, and it doesn't
[00:19:05.000]
Okay, that looks like you are genetics. So I'm just gonna add a few American men and women of science energy.
[00:19:18.000]
Okay. So I've added those and I'm going to click done.
[00:19:23.000]
They're automatically added Here.
[00:19:28.000]
I want to add some more titles this time. I want some on medicine
[00:19:44.000]
Okay. And again, this one has 2 pages. So to turn the page I just click at the top and I can click on a few more and click.
[00:19:57.000]
Done.
[00:20:00.000]
Now at this point I can see all the titles I have available.
[00:20:01.000]
If I want to remove any of them. Let's say, I added one in here, and I decide.
[00:20:08.000]
Nope, that's not one that I that I want in this in the selection.
[00:20:14.000]
Now that I put it together, I kind of thinking I don't want this one on energy.
[00:20:15.000]
I just click on the X, and it will remove it for me.
[00:20:21.000]
I can continue to add titles, and I can come back in and add any additional titles that I want.
[00:20:27.000]
At this point is when I would want to save this collection.
[00:20:28.000]
I also have that option to delete, so any custom collections that you create, you can also deliver the gale curated ones.
[00:20:39.000]
You can hide, but you can't delete them.
[00:20:43.000]
Your own custom collections, you can delete them if you want to so that's the difference between the 2.
[00:20:48.000]
But you do have the ability to disable them and hide the gale.
[00:20:52.000]
Gale, collections that are curated for you. Your own.
[00:20:55.000]
You can delete if you would. The so I'm going to click save it's automatically enabled, and it automatically adds it to the top of my list.
[00:21:00.000]
So if I wanted to move this again. Remember, I can just click and drag, and I can move it down here. Under science.
[00:21:12.000]
If I wanted to
[00:21:16.000]
Alright. What does it look like on the homepage?
[00:21:19.000]
Here it is at the top. It's showing right here.
[00:21:23.000]
I click into it. There's my collection
[00:21:27.000]
It's really quite simple to do to take that content that you have available and curate it to best suit your library.
[00:21:36.000]
Your users need your patrons, your students, your faculty and teachers.
[00:21:40.000]
You can curate this collection how you like. You will need your gale, admin credentials to log in and find that content and access.
[00:21:42.000]
This information. As I mentioned our technical support. Folks can help you with that.
[00:21:53.000]
If you don't have that information they can help you with that, and make sure you have it.
[00:21:58.000]
And then you can start curating whenever you're ready, and don't forget that you can delete any custom collections.
[00:22:05.000]
You can disable any, or enable any gale collections, and you can change the order.
[00:22:12.000]
However you like. Are there any questions about anything I went over or would you like to see anything again?
[00:22:29.000]
Alright, let me share with you a document, since I'm on this screen, I will talk a little bit more about the gale support site, but I want to share with you a document that we've created it's a tip sheet and I'll send this in the chat but this is Gale
[00:22:44.000]
ebooks, librarian login. Here's a step by step process for you.
[00:22:45.000]
It's exactly what I just went over. But you also have it in a document.
[00:22:52.000]
So imagine you're watching this training today. But you have other folks at your library that are curating collections.
[00:22:59.000]
You want to share this information with them, you can always share the webinar, but there's also this document to accompany it, and I just added it to the chat.
[00:23:08.000]
Box, but it is available on the support site. The nice thing is with the gale support site. Is anytime.
[00:23:15.000]
You go into training center and you filter by product, it'll take you to all of the training materials available for that product.
[00:23:20.000]
So I went into the training center, browse by product and filtered to ebox, and it took took me to all of my training materials that I have for gale ebooks.
[00:23:34.000]
And you'll find the gale ebook, create custom collections, tips, sheet here at the bottom
[00:23:43.000]
You can also do the same same type of approach for marketing materials too
[00:23:50.000]
Alright. Let me go back to my Powerpoint, if there are no questions. And again I apologize. That Zoom didn't want to share my other screen and liked my excel spreadsheet a little too much
[00:24:04.000]
Gale, support site everything we kind of just talked about. I'd also want to mention this.
[00:24:11.000]
Is where you can find your title lists, and Mark records your database icons widgets.
[00:24:16.000]
You have the ability to contact your gale customer success managers through the support site. This link.
[00:24:17.000]
Will also be included in your follow up, email. I talked to you already about the training center.
[00:24:22.000]
I do want to also mention that not only do we have recorded Webinars, but we have short little video tutorials.
[00:24:29.000]
We have Powerpoint training decks ready to go with all our training notes.
[00:24:33.000]
Projects, scavenger hunts available, and then marketing materials.
[00:24:39.000]
I briefly mentioned, but this is where you can find bookmarks and posters, and we have every type of social media post available that you can think of.
[00:24:47.000]
I have one here that we have available about gale ebooks and how you can utilize that I think this is a twitter, card that that our marketing team has created.
[00:24:59.000]
But we also have blockchain templates and email templates available to
[00:25:06.000]
Are the ebooks that we purchased from Gale included in the same portal with TEL ebooks. Lee?
[00:25:09.000]
Yes, they should. They are, unless you have set them up to be in a on a different location. Id.
[00:25:18.000]
So let me give you an example of where that might happen.
[00:25:22.000]
That happens where a K. 12 district will purchase a collection of professional development ebooks.
[00:25:30.000]
They won't want them on a separate location. Id, so they're not mixed in with their student ebooks, either that they have from TEL or that they've purchased themselves so that's usually where we see 2 different you know your ebooks loaded in 2 different places.
[00:25:44.000]
All of your ebooks should be loaded in the exact same spot.
[00:25:48.000]
If you're not seeing some that you have purchased, reach out to your gale.
[00:25:49.000]
Customer success managers. They can take a look at that for you and see why they haven't been merged together.
[00:25:55.000]
But in Tennessee everything is loaded on the same location.
[00:25:59.000]
Id, but there might be some legacy ones out there that but I don't.
[00:26:06.000]
I don't think so, but just in case I always wanna give that disclaimer that you can go to your gale customer.
[00:26:13.000]
Success managers for that one-on-one support.
[00:26:15.000]
So if you run into any issues with that Larry talked about the support, site the training surveys here, it should pop up when you leave the session today I will say on the line if there's any additional questions my name is Tammy Burke I'm your senior training Consultant from
[00:26:30.000]

[00:26:43.000]

[00:26:48.000]

[00:27:33.000]
That were created for TEL, and then also our upcoming sessions will be listed there too.
[00:27:40.000]
Thank you all for your time today, and I will stay online if there's any additional questions

[00:00:48.000]
purchased yourself if they all live on the same location, id they will all be available in gale ebooks, and you will be able to cure them into your own custom collections.
[00:01:00.000]
A brief agenda of today's session.
[00:01:01.000]

[00:26:38.000]
So much for your time
[00:26:43.000]
Andrea, did you want to add anything? I see your hand is raised there.
[00:26:48.000]
Did you want to add anything
[00:26:52.000]
No. Okay. Oh, you're welcome. Thank you. Thank you. All for the great feedback
[00:27:02.000]

So I hope you join us for our December session, and another in January.
[00:27:15.000]
So come back and find us. I will share this link. This is where you can find all of the training upcoming and recorded sessions.
[00:27:22.000]
It will be in your follow-up email. But those watching the recording, you can always go to the support page that we've created for TEL and go right to the training center and find our library of recordings.
[00:27:33.000]
That were created for TEL, and then also our upcoming sessions will be listed there too.
[00:27:40.000]
Thank you all for your time today, and I will stay online if there's any additional questions
