Duration: 15 Minutes
[00:00:03.000]
Welcome to your Gale training for the Florida Electronic Library. Today's training is 15 minutes to mastery and we will be covering the new ebook, Master the GED by Peterson's that you now have available.

[00:00:15.000]
My name is Tammi Burke. I'm a senior trainer at Gale, and I thank you so much for your time today.

[00:00:21.000]
Please feel free to use that Q&A box if you have any questions during this short and sweet training session that we have.

[00:00:28.000]
Our agenda, we will talk about access to the FEEL resources and specifically the Peterson's master the

[00:00:35.000]
the GED ebook. We're going to explore that Gale ebook title.

[00:00:40.000]
And then any questions that you have, please feel free to ask. I will also leave you with where you can find additional support in both materials and folks at Gale that are there to

[00:00:51.000]
help you. To access the FEL resources, you can go to the FEL site

[00:00:56.000]
Or if you're using your direct URLs, that's a great access point because then usage will roll up to your specific library. If you're not sure where to get those direct URLs.

[00:01:07.000]
You can go to our Gale support site and I will put that in the chat right now. I'll also cover it at the end of today's training and then share the link again one more time at the end of today's training.

[00:01:18.000]
But to access through the FEL portal or website, you can go directly to that link that I just shared and you'll find the ebooks available under the A to Z and also under popular and I'll model that for you today.

[00:01:34.000]
Talk a little bit about the Peterson's Master the GED Test ebook.

[00:01:40.000]
So you have a bit of information on this title that you have available.

[00:01:46.000]
It really provides a great guide to test prep and review materials for the high school equivalency diploma test.

[00:01:54.000]
It will prepare your users for test day and also help boost their score.

[00:02:00.000]
And it's completely free to them because the Florida Electronic Library has purchased it for all of the libraries there in Florida. So your users have complete access to this ebook.

[00:02:11.000]
And it includes scoring and passing requirements, how to prepare, what to expect on test day.

[00:02:18.000]
Plus, you have the ability to print

[00:02:21.000]
And answer those tests online. It's a diagnostic test that they have available, but also they'll find specific updates on test questions.

[00:02:30.000]
Subject reviews, vocabulary lists, test taking tips, and there's three practice tests available. So one is diagnostic and the other two are focusing on those subjects.

[00:02:40.000]
It provides up-to-date details on the GED test structure too, which really helps our users out when they

[00:02:47.000]
are preparing for not only the information on that test, but taking that test.

[00:02:53.000]
So we want to make sure they're as prepared as possible.

[00:02:56.000]
So let's jump into, let me share my

[00:03:00.000]
screen, I want to jump in and share with you if you are accessing through the feel

[00:03:05.000]
site. You can go directly to the A to Z section.

[00:03:12.000]
And if you select G for Gale.

[00:03:15.000]
you will find Gale eBooks right here.

[00:03:18.000]
Or…

[00:03:21.000]
You can go into the popular section

[00:03:24.000]
And these are the popular or most reviewed resources.

[00:03:27.000]
You'll find Gale ebooks right here. Number five.

[00:03:31.000]
Once you access Gale eBooks.

[00:03:35.000]
Now, since I'm accessing through the Florida Electronic Library site, what I will see is these custom collections that have already been created for me.

[00:03:45.000]
If you're using your direct URL, you have the ability to make custom collections with your ebooks and curate them however you like.

[00:03:53.000]
The Florida Electronic Library administrator has done this for you. So if you are accessing through

[00:03:59.000]
The FEL portal or website, then you will see this exactly what I'm seeing here, what I'm sharing with you on my screen.

[00:04:10.000]
your direct URLs, which I do highly suggest

[00:04:13.000]
then you may want to customize this for your needs at your library. But where we will find this title and it hasn't been posted there yet, like I said, it's brand new. So it is here in our Gale ebooks collection. It just hasn't been curated into

[00:04:29.000]
the studying and test preparation.

[00:04:32.000]
to find that title today, what I'm going to do is a basic search and I'm just going to type in GED.

[00:04:41.000]
And here it is right at the top of my page.

[00:04:44.000]
Now, if I click into the cover

[00:04:46.000]
or the title, it's going to take me to, I think it's page three.

[00:04:53.000]
Yes. Page three. So it skips over my cover and my publication information.

[00:05:00.000]
I'm going to go back to my results.

[00:05:04.000]
If I select the publication information here.

[00:05:08.000]
That is actually going to take me to this page

[00:05:12.000]
Which gives me my table of contents. Now I can access my table of contents from the previous page I was on

[00:05:18.000]
It just lives up here in my contextual toolbar.

[00:05:22.000]
And you'll see that once I select one of these sections of this book.

[00:05:27.000]
then you'll see, I'll point out that table of contents. At any time, I can search within my publication if I'm looking for a certain title.

[00:05:35.000]
But I wanted to share with you what you're going to find within this title.

[00:05:39.000]
So we have all of the front cover, title page, all of that great information.

[00:05:45.000]
But I have my Before You Begin. And then each section here below

[00:05:51.000]
drops down and will provide me with

[00:05:53.000]
a direct link to that

[00:05:56.000]
chapter.

[00:05:58.000]
Or section. It really depends on the ebook. This one actually does have chapters.

[00:06:03.000]
You can see I have the basics, so all about the GED tests.

[00:06:08.000]
The next one is my diagnostic test. And it starts with some information, but then takes me right to an answer sheet.

[00:06:16.000]
And then after that answer sheet, I will have all of my questions. So it helps me figure out my strengths and weaknesses.

[00:06:24.000]
And then below that, I have language arts, social studies, science, math.

[00:06:30.000]
And then my two practice tests that I have available, and of course the appendix.

[00:06:35.000]
So let's go to before you begin.

[00:06:41.000]
And as you can see, it takes me to this great text view. When I'm in the text view as compared to

[00:06:49.000]
the book view up here in my contextual toolbar

[00:06:52.000]
When I'm in text view, I have all of my tools to support accessibility available. So if I do need to translate the text, I can do that.

[00:07:00.000]
We're at, I think, 57 languages.

[00:07:03.000]
We might be at 60. We keep adding more. So translate is an option. I can also decrease or increase that font size. I have my display options where I can customize it even further.

[00:07:15.000]
Changing the background color and the font and this line letter and word spacing. I can also listen to the text being read aloud to me.

[00:07:23.000]
If I want to send this information to Google or Microsoft, I can do that. I can also email, download, and print.

[00:07:30.000]
And there's no limit. You can download as much as you want of this book.

[00:07:34.000]
If I wanted just a suction or just a chapter, I could do that or just certain pages. Or if I wanted to go cover to cover, I could go through and

[00:07:42.000]
print off or download as much information as I want.

[00:07:45.000]
Now, the book view looks a little different.

[00:07:50.000]
My tools to support accessibility. Anytime I'm in gale ebooks

[00:07:55.000]
And I changed to book view, my tools to support accessibility go away.

[00:08:00.000]
Because this is a PDF of your print book.

[00:08:03.000]
But again, you have unlimited access. There's no check-in or checkout.

[00:08:08.000]
And then you have the ability to download this or print or send it to your Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.

[00:08:15.000]
All those, email it to yourself. All those options are available.

[00:08:19.000]
All of our tools in Gale ebooks exist here. I can make this double page. I can zoom in, zoom out, make this whole screen.

[00:08:26.000]
Tap or swipe and it'll take me to the next

[00:08:29.000]
two pages and this just gives me some information on the GDE and all about the GED.

[00:08:37.000]
So you can see this is chapter one.

[00:08:39.000]
My table of contents is still here with me.

[00:08:43.000]
I can quickly jump to

[00:08:47.000]
this practice test.

[00:08:49.000]
And this is the first one to determine where my strengths and weaknesses are.

[00:08:55.000]
gives me some information overview and introduction, and then it takes me to my answer sheet.

[00:09:03.000]
that I again can print off or download.

[00:09:07.000]
After that.

[00:09:10.000]
it takes me right into those questions.

[00:09:13.000]
So the first category is looking at this passage where I have to answer questions.

[00:09:20.000]
I can record those on my sheet.

[00:09:23.000]
And continue to work through.

[00:09:26.000]
all of these questions.

[00:09:29.000]
The table of contents again

[00:09:34.000]
If I open up, let's go language arts.

[00:09:39.000]
And you can see we have a few categories, including a writing review, which is really helpful.

[00:09:46.000]
So looking at comprehension

[00:09:48.000]
going to again provide me with a passage. And this section is review

[00:09:52.000]
So these first sections here

[00:09:57.000]
language arts, social studies, science, and math, these are review

[00:10:02.000]
So I can practice because there's questions there. I can practice and quiz myself and it provides me with the answer.

[00:10:10.000]
And then that'll prepare me when I get to the point where I'm ready to take an actual practice test.

[00:10:16.000]
So it's a little different because these again are the review and that's what I'm showing you now. So let me click through.

[00:10:23.000]
Get rid of that.

[00:10:27.000]
So you can see when I get to the questions.

[00:10:30.000]
And again, this question one is based on this passage

[00:10:35.000]
It also will give me the correct answer. So this is for my review purposes.

[00:10:40.000]
But then when I'm ready.

[00:10:43.000]
I've gone through these practice

[00:10:45.000]
or these reviews, I'm ready for my practice test.

[00:10:49.000]
I open up practice test two.

[00:10:52.000]
Here again, directions for taking that test, and I have all of my answer sheets available.

[00:11:00.000]
Click through. It'll take me to click

[00:11:05.000]
This passage is for questions one through six, but it provides me with how long it should take, how many questions there are.

[00:11:11.000]
And of course, I had my answer sheet here, which will apply to all of the content

[00:11:16.000]
in practice test number two. And then I have still yet another practice test, and that's number three.

[00:11:23.000]
So all are available. Again, I happen to be in

[00:11:27.000]
book view, if I go back to text view

[00:11:31.000]
I still have that information.

[00:11:35.000]
And I still have these

[00:11:38.000]
answer sheets, but I do suggest

[00:11:40.000]
being in book view or when you click on that download or print, it'll give you, let me show you what download looks like. I downloaded this one earlier.

[00:11:49.000]
When I click on download, it gives you that exact

[00:11:54.000]
PDF so you can very easily download this onto your device or you can download it from the resource onto your device, but you can print this off.

[00:12:04.000]
And when I click print, of course, if I only wanted the answer pages, then I would just

[00:12:09.000]
select those.

[00:12:12.000]
when I go to print just those pages, I would

[00:12:15.000]
make sure it's pages two, three, four, five, whichever ones those are i think it's

[00:12:19.000]
the first four or five pages there.

[00:12:23.000]
Okay. Another tool that you have that I want to point out to you all is the highlights and notes tool. So let's say you are doing a bit of a review. Let me go back to my table of contents.

[00:12:35.000]
Let's go into social studies.

[00:12:39.000]
And let's go into this review section.

[00:12:42.000]
You can see the overview.

[00:12:44.000]
what's going to be covered and let's start with

[00:12:48.000]
US history. And let's say there's some areas I wanted to

[00:12:54.000]
revisit. I can use my highlights and notes tool

[00:12:58.000]
highlight a chunk of text

[00:13:00.000]
Maybe I want to revisit this later.

[00:13:08.000]
There we go. Save that.

[00:13:11.000]
And what I can do is I can send this

[00:13:14.000]
to Google OneDrive email.

[00:13:17.000]
I can download or print this information off and it'll remain marked up.

[00:13:21.000]
When I send it to my Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, it turns it into a Google Doc or a Word doc.

[00:13:27.000]
And again, it'll be marked up.

[00:13:29.000]
My notes will live below the source citation at the bottom.

[00:13:33.000]
So I have that little paper airplane here or

[00:13:36.000]
I have my quick send options, but I really like that my toolbar sticks with me.

[00:13:42.000]
Not only that, but my highlights and notes section is being built out. So let me open that up and share that with you. And this is great. Again, if you're looking to review, and I had another note in here from

[00:13:54.000]
a previous search I had done. Here is a great way to create digital notes. So this is a great way if there's sections that you're struggling, where your users are struggling with.

[00:14:04.000]
They can use our highlights and notes feature and create digital notes that they can also just send these

[00:14:10.000]
to Google OneDrive email.

[00:14:13.000]
download or print.

[00:14:15.000]
So another great tool

[00:14:17.000]
that you have available within the resource.

[00:14:20.000]
Something else I want to share with you. So talking about

[00:14:25.000]
The content, we talked about the content. We talked about book view and table of contents and then

[00:14:31.000]
highlights and notes. You can also provide a link back to any spot within this resource.

[00:14:37.000]
If I wanted to provide a link

[00:14:41.000]
to this table of contents, I can use my git link tool

[00:14:46.000]
and provide a persistent URL back to that spot.

[00:14:50.000]
If I wanted to highlight, maybe we're covering science

[00:14:55.000]
And I want to take folks directly to the science content.

[00:14:59.000]
I can use my git link tool

[00:15:02.000]
And it'll provide a link back to this exact page within the ebook.

[00:15:07.000]
Or maybe I just want that cover page.

[00:15:09.000]
I want to take them directly to the front cover.

[00:15:13.000]
Again, I can use the git link tool

[00:15:16.000]
and provide a persistent URL back to this exact spot.

[00:15:20.000]
So keep that in mind that that's one way to share this ebook.

[00:15:23.000]
is using the direct URL for the ebook. So you do have that available.

[00:15:31.000]
I'm going to provide for you in the chat

[00:15:33.000]
is the…

[00:15:35.000]
support site page that we have available for

[00:15:38.000]
FEL, so it's the Gale Support Site page

[00:15:43.000]
And I'll also share this at the end of today's session

[00:15:46.000]
I'm going to select this first library.

[00:15:49.000]
So you would find your library from the drop down menu

[00:15:53.000]
Once you click proceed.

[00:15:56.000]
It takes you to your direct links for your library. So the first one it takes you to is all of your resources.

[00:16:04.000]
Your digital resources including

[00:16:06.000]
Gale ebooks.

[00:16:08.000]
But if I wanted just my ebook.

[00:16:12.000]
direct URL. I have that capability also available.

[00:16:16.000]
So this is, again, a full list of all of your ebooks. I have my mark records over here to the right so I can

[00:16:23.000]
download my personalized mark records for my site. But if I'm looking for the GED,

[00:16:30.000]
There's my ebook. Here's my direct link.

[00:16:33.000]
And built into my link is built into

[00:16:36.000]
my location ID information.

[00:16:38.000]
So you would want to log in and find your library and use that direct link

[00:16:47.000]
Okay. And I can view that or copy that off and share it.

[00:16:52.000]
So keep that in mind that that's another way that you can share that information.

[00:16:56.000]
Again, it does live on the Florida Electronic Library site.

[00:17:01.000]
But lots of ideas on how you can share this ebook

[00:17:05.000]
For your public library or for your, I should say library, you could be using this

[00:17:10.000]
outside of the public library too.

[00:17:13.000]
All right, let me go back to my PowerPoint because we're right at the end of the session. Please let me know if you have any questions.

[00:17:19.000]
I just shared with you your Gale support site, but let me share with you again so you can see that link here at the top. I also put it in the chat.

[00:17:28.000]
And this is again where you're going to find all of those access URLs and title lists and mark records.

[00:17:33.000]
You'll also find in the training center great tip sheets and tutorials. There's recorded webinars and training decks. And in the marketing materials, you'll find bookmarks and posters.

[00:17:43.000]
and digital assets available for your Gale resources.

[00:17:48.000]
Again, my name is Tammi Burke. I'm a senior trainer at Gale, and I thank you for taking time out of your day to spend it with me.

[00:17:55.000]
I will stay on if there's any additional questions for your one-on-one support in all things Gale, please feel free to reach out to our Gale customer success managers

[00:18:04.000]
They are there and happy to help you with any questions that you have.

[00:18:07.000]
Including access, we talked about access and direct URLs so they can help with that too, and usage reports and so much more.

[00:18:14.000]
If you have time to take the survey.

[00:18:17.000]
We would greatly appreciate your feedback.

[00:18:19.000]
Please click that continue button. When that pops up, since you're attending a live session, for those attending the recording, if you would also like to fill out the survey, please feel free to do so.

[00:18:29.000]
The QR code is here. And for those attending the live, you'd prefer to use the QR code, you can do that too.

[00:18:35.000]
So we'd love to get your feedback. We do share that with the folks at the Florida Electronic Library and it's completely anonymous.

[00:18:41.000]
But please feel free to give us some feedback. Not only that, if you'd like to see some additional training on anything else, let me know because I do share that information and we are planning into 2025.

[00:18:53.000]
So I thank you so much for your time today. Again, don't forget about the support site and the training materials I linked out specifically here.

[00:19:01.000]
But I thank you for your time. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will stay on the line. Thanks, everyone. Have a great rest of your day.
