[00:00:02.000]
Welcome to your training session for the Florida Library. Today's training is empowering. Libraries foster accessibility with Florida electronic library resources. My name is Tammi Burke. I'm your senior training consultant from Gale, and I thank you so much for joining us today.

[00:00:38.000]
Electronic library. And we will look at different content. Diverse content tools to support accessibility is going to be a big focus of ours today and ways to share information. So if you have any questions, just feel free to ask.

[00:00:53.000]
At any time during today's training. But with that, let's get started taking a look at how we can support the very needs of all of our users. So first, st I want to start with the agenda.

[00:01:05.000]
We're going talk about access to these resources and where you can go to find your direct links for your library, just in case you're not aware, and then an overview of the gale resources that you have available from the Florida library we we will be spending the majority of our time looking at browse and search options.

[00:01:24.000]
That you have available. We'll look at content and then resource, features and tools. Any questions that you have you can ask at any time, but I will stay on at the end of today's training to answer any additional questions. But I'll also provide you with my contact information and also your Gale customer, success manager's contact information. So your Gale customer success managers are your one on one support. They are there to support you and.

[00:01:49.000]
All things scale. And so, if you need any help looking at materials that we have available on the support site or running usage reports or adding your direct Urls to your library website, they can help with all of that, and so much more.

[00:02:06.000]
Access to the Florida electronic library resources you can find here through the website that they've provided for you and let me post that into the chat. If you're not familiar with this, so you can utilize this site.

[00:02:22.000]
It is the florid electronic library site. It did just recently receive updates and recently launch the new updates. So it'll look a little bit different for you all. Of course the logo is still there at the top that you've known to.

[00:02:35.000]
To come and utilize and love. So you can use this as an access point. I will share this.

[00:02:40.000]
The nice thing is is that.

[00:02:42.000]
Your any anyone that accesses your resources. They, if they're in the State of Florida, they will.

[00:02:51.000]
Be able to directly authenticate. They won't have to put in a username and password. But what happens is when you use the Florida electronic library site. If you're a public library, that's fantastic, because what'll happen is is that when a person in your area of your library goes into the Florida electronic library website and accesses the resources. The usage will roll up to the nearest public library to their local location.

[00:03:16.000]
So they're in the library. Of course that usage will roll right to your public library, but if they're at home, or maybe they're in, you know, somewhere else in the State. It'll roll up to the closest library, to their location. So keep that in mind. So if you are coming from a K 12 school or an academic library. Then, using your direct Urls might be the path you want to take.

[00:03:36.000]
So that you are able to capture that usage. But same with public libraries utilizing those direct Urls can be a really helpful tool. But the floor electronic library website is available and you are more than welcome to use it for accessing all the resources. It's a beautiful site. It's nice and organized.

[00:03:53.000]
And you'll find all that content there. If you are interested in your direct Urls.

[00:03:59.000]
Let me put that.

[00:04:01.000]
Link, into.

[00:04:03.000]
Here it is!

[00:04:06.000]
Into the chat.

[00:04:08.000]
So you can see that this is also a really good site to bookmark. I share it at the end of today's training. But since I was just talking about direct Urls, I wanted to share that with you. This is a support site that we've created for all of you at the Florida Electronic Library to all the libraries there in Florida. To access all of your direct information or students.

[00:04:34.000]
To access content. This is for you all. It's a support site for our customers to utilize that information and grab those direct Urls.

[00:04:43.000]
All right, let me provide you with an overview of your Gale resources. So you know fully what's aware. And then a few of them. I want to touch into.

[00:04:50.000]
When we're talking about.

[00:04:54.000]
The equity of access, or when we're talking about supporting.

[00:04:57.000]
Folks in your community, different learners or different users in your communities from adult learners to student learners, there's lots of great resources available. So for those that are K, 12, focus classroom homework help. Also home schooling. If you have any home schoolers coming into your public library.

[00:05:17.000]
Higher. Ed, here's some resources that you can suggest. So you do have in your in contact suite.

[00:05:23.000]
Cross curricular reference supporting elementary students. You have Gale In Context: elementary for middle schoolers. So 6 through 8th grade, you have Gale In context, middle school.

[00:05:34.000]
For our high school students. You do have in our one file product family, which is periodical content magazines, academic journals, newspapers. You have Gale, one file, high school edition, and Gale literature. Litfinder, Gale literature. Litfinder has full text poems.

[00:05:53.000]
Inaugural speeches, speech of all, all shapes and sizes, including inaugural speeches. You'll find short stories. You'll find some novels here in gale literature. Litfinder. This is also a good one for adult learning. I don't wanna leave that one out.

[00:06:06.000]
You have a great collection of gale ebooks. The Florida Library has purchased all kinds of gale ebooks, and they are cross, curricular. So you're going to find ebooks for public library patrons like myself that would be coming in to students. So there is a great collection of ebooks covering all levels.

[00:06:25.000]
Available in the ebook collection. Academic one file. This is in our one file periodical family of resources. Anything with one file in the title, again, is that periodical content and academic one file is great for both high school with your Ib programs or any accelerated programs, but also heavily used at the higher ed level.

[00:06:49.000]
Reader's advisory that we have available is books and authors, and this is great for especially for our public library patrons that are looking for that next read looking for, read a Likes this is a reader's advisory, and it gives you great information. It's very user, friendly, and has beautiful covers of of books with summaries links to authors and biographies. We even have award winning touch.

[00:07:14.000]
Titles that are directly linked out, that it's not to the book collections, but it is a readers advisory resource so great to find that next read.

[00:07:24.000]
To support research. I mentioned periodical resources in the one file product family on the last side. But I do want to mention.

[00:07:31.000]
Gale. General, one file. This is for great for our public libraries. You're going to find a fantastic magazines here in this periodical resource. There will be also newspapers and some journals available there. If you're looking for academic journals, though academic, one file is the path you want to take.

[00:07:52.000]
To support our Spanish and Portuguese learners, or those coming into the library, or researchers we have. And this is one I really want to talk about in this session is Gale, one file in form a academical, so it is in the one file family. But the periodicals that are here are Spanish and Spanish and Portuguese periodicals.

[00:08:11.000]
And you also have access to in the one file or family. You have diversity studies.

[00:08:18.000]
And then I mentioned ebooks already, and you have a very large one file collection multiple collections. So I just pulled out 2 and 4 diversity studies you can, you'll find

[00:08:32.000]
Variety of other collections available in that one file collection of resources. So I'll share that a little bit more about that when we jump into.

[00:08:42.000]
The live.

[00:08:43.000]
The live demonstration or presentation of those resources.

[00:08:49.000]
Health and medicine resources that you have available for patron health and wellness, but also for medical professionals and medical students, or those in cte courses. That in in K. 12 you'll find a few resources here that I wanted to bring up.

[00:09:04.000]
The 1st one I'm going to talk about is to the right, and that's Gale, health and wellness. This is that consumer.

[00:09:09.000]
Approach or consumer information content for health and wellness. So for your public library patrons, this is also a really good one to share with K. 12.

[00:09:22.000]
Because of the content there, but also another one for parents. It's great for students.

[00:09:27.000]
Any type of health classes or physical Ed classes. Health and wellness is that approach to your patrons that are coming into your library, and they want additional information.

[00:09:39.000]
This is the resource I would direct them to is Gale. Health and wellness.

[00:09:43.000]
For our medical professionals, medical students, anybody doing any type of medical research, I would direct them to Gale one health and medicine, so another one in the one file.

[00:09:55.000]
Product. Family health and medicine is the one that is great for those medical professionals.

[00:10:00.000]
And then along those same lines of medical professionals you have nursing and Allied health.

[00:10:05.000]
Physical therapy and sports, medicine and psychology all available. And then I also wanted to bring in academic one file, because there's also additional content available there.

[00:10:21.000]
For our business resources.

[00:10:23.000]
You have great resources to support entrepreneurs, a business courses, small business owners, anyone going into that type of field also, even in.

[00:10:33.000]
The at the high school level. You have some business classes that are offered.

[00:10:38.000]
You have a few resources.

[00:10:39.000]
Gale business insights. So looking for company profiles or company overviews, Plunkett reports market analysis. You can take a look at Gale business insights. We have fantastic company profiles there. But it's also global. So it takes a look at the global market. This is also a really good one for investors.

[00:11:00.000]
Private investors. This is a great resource for them.

[00:11:04.000]
For your small business owners. Are those looking to open a business? You have Gale business, entrepreneurship.

[00:11:08.000]
That's available. It has great business plans. If you have the business plans, handbooks on your library shelves, you'll find the complete series, or all the volumes here. I think there's 60 volumes available. Here in gale business entrepreneurship along with how to find funding where to go for a a support. What's trending? What businesses are trending, how to manage your business or manage your employees? That type of.

[00:11:33.000]
Content.

[00:11:34.000]
And then you also have Gale business demographics. Now, this is available again through Florida electronic library. And this is great when you're looking at marketing. Okay, now you're getting ready for starting your business, but you want to market that, and you want to look at the demographic area. This is a resource, I would turn to.

[00:11:52.000]
Alright! So lots of great resources to support.

[00:11:56.000]
All sorts of.

[00:11:57.000]
Patrons or students, or even faculty members, you'll find here within your collection from the Florida Electronic library. Now let's take a look at the interface and the tools that you have available to support accessibility.

[00:12:11.000]
And I just picked a few to take a look at.

[00:12:12.000]
Starting with Gale in contact again, this is for our K through 5 students. It is very user, friendly for that age group.

[00:12:22.000]
And also has content and reading levels available for that age.

[00:12:27.000]
You'll also find your ebook collection that you have available for elementary students, elementary. So they don't have to go outside to another resource to find those ebooks. They're already integrated into this resource at the same time. So it makes it really easy for our younger users, with that cross, curricular general.

[00:12:50.000]
Reference information for our middle school students. We have Gale In Context:, middle schooling, those topics that they study at the middle school level.

[00:12:59.000]
And also any additional type of exploration they want to do. Support those

[00:13:05.000]
Argumentative essays, that type of content they'll find available here for the that type of research.

[00:13:11.000]
Academic one file. I mentioned the interface, as you can see, so with our.

[00:13:15.000]
Gale In context elementary. Let me go back to.

[00:13:19.000]
We have what we call a topic tree.

[00:13:22.000]
So you'll see this topic tree, where students have a visual approach to finding that content.

[00:13:28.000]
Middle school we still have images available, but these subject categories will take them to topic pages.

[00:13:35.000]
Academic. One file provides the browse by discipline, option, and this is really helpful when you're higher. Ed, students are looking for content in the field of, let's say, psychology, and specifically looking at memory, they're only going to get content related to psychology and memory. If they do a basic search, they may pull back.

[00:13:57.000]
Computer memory. For example.

[00:14:02.000]
And then Gale business insights. I mentioned this already with those great company profiles. They start at the top with company profiles, moves into publications. Top search terms. It's all organized here on that homepage, and everything is hyperlinked out. Or of course, you can do a basic or advanced search. But it really is a great way to browse through these resources is utilizing that user, friendly approach, that we provide right from the home.

[00:14:25.000]
Page.

[00:14:27.000]
To support accessibility. We have a lot of features available. One of them that we have available is the ability to translate the documents, the text into over 50 languages.

[00:14:40.000]
You can increase the font size or reduce it if you need to.

[00:14:44.000]
Display options, make the display choices available to improve readability where you have the ability to change, to customize the text, so you can change the color behind the text that you're seeing on the page. So it's not just white. Maybe you need.

[00:14:57.000]
A green background, or you need the, you know the look of paper behind it. You can do that and set that up right on one document, and it sticks with you. Throughout your session. You also have some font choices. You can change the font, including open dyslexic, and then you also have the ability to increase the line, letter, and word spacing, and then, if you need the text, read aloud to you, you can listen to that text being read aloud, you can download it as an Mp.

[00:15:22.000]
P. 3. Or you can enlarge the text and pull it out onto the page enhancing that text visibility. And that's all available in that. Listen, button.

[00:15:34.000]
Here's that display options. I just wanted to show you a little further. So once you select that feature.

[00:15:40.000]
You have the ability to change the color behind the text on the page.

[00:15:45.000]
Change the font, increase the line, letter and word.

[00:15:49.000]
As you can see here.

[00:15:50.000]
And then this is I've changed that color behind the text. I chose open dyslexic and then increase my line, letter, and wordpacing, and that it will stick with you throughout your session. Every document you click into. Once you set it up on the 1st one, it'll show up in that format the rest of your session.

[00:16:10.000]
So a great way to, you know. Support the varying needs of your learners. Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

[00:16:17.000]
To share content. We have a very easy way to do that. You can save content also, right from within our resources.

[00:16:26.000]
So you have the ability, for if you're coming from K 12, or if you're working with schools, a lot of I know a lot of public libraries in Florida work directly with schools. Please share that you have the ability to share content directly to Google classroom in your all of your gale resources.

[00:16:41.000]
You also have the get link tool. This is great for a library programming, because you can grab a link back to content. And this is, it could be a topic page. It could be that you filter down your results. And you wanted to grab a link. We call it a persistent URL.

[00:16:57.000]
Or a pearl. You can grab a link right back to that exact spot, or it could be a specific document, so you can grab a link back to any spots within the resources it's very simple to use. Or if you want to save that information, you can send it directly to your email, to Google or to Microsoft.

[00:17:14.000]
And what happens if you send it to Google or Microsoft, it turns it into a Google document or turns it into a Microsoft document. You also have the ability to download a A Pdf, so both options are available. You can download it also or print it off right onto your computer. If you wanted to save that information.

[00:17:34.000]
To support our learners, our younger learners. We in our Gale In context, we have content levels.

[00:17:43.000]
And you can see here we have 5 different ones.

[00:17:46.000]
I always tell folks, if you remember. Level 3 is generally middle school. Everything below is elementary. Everything above is high school all the way to undergrad. It makes it really easy to keep to remember those 5 different levels. So starting with ones and twos being lower and upper elementary, 3 is middle school, and then, as I mentioned high school all the way to undergrad.

[00:18:07.000]
And you'll find these icons.

[00:18:10.000]
On all of our documents.

[00:18:13.000]
They are level documents. Where in our one file, product families, you'll see the you won't see the.

[00:18:19.000]
The content levels, you'll see the lexile measure instead.

[00:18:23.000]
But you can see how they are related to.

[00:18:25.000]
Each lexile measure range.

[00:18:31.000]
And then for any folks that are utilizing any learning management systems, either at the higher Ed level or k, 12, we are.

[00:18:39.000]
Integrated with learning management systems, such as canvas, schoology, d. 2 l.

[00:18:45.000]
We do have that capability available. There is some setup that takes needs to take place on the back side.

[00:18:51.000]
But you're if you have a tech person that's in charge of that, they can work directly with our customer success managers, and they can help with that the Csms. Can our customer success managers.

[00:19:01.000]
Can really help with getting that ball rolling, and this is a good time to do it before school starts, and have all of your resources available right within your learning management system. So it keeps it really simple for students. We also have a lot of single sign-on capabilities.

[00:19:16.000]
So when you're talking about equity of access with Google Microsoft class link clever, it does take a little bit of setup. But then your students are able to go right in where they're learning and access their gale resources. So we work really hard to play well in the sandbox with all different resources.

[00:19:34.000]
And.

[00:19:35.000]
Discovery options. So keep that in mind that if you are utilizing something in your building at your library.

[00:19:43.000]
And you wanna know, oh, does Gale work within? Yes, chances are we probably do.

[00:19:50.000]
Because we do with every system. We work really hard to make sure that our content is available for all users, no matter where they're accessing the information.

[00:20:00.000]
So Gale browse and search options. I just want to touch into these before I model them for you. Topic pages, topic pages you'll find in health and wellness. You'll find them in our in context, resources.

[00:20:12.000]
They have images and essay overviews of information that have been curated by our either subject matter specialists or our content editors where they are organizing that information for you and for our users. And they're align. We take a look at. We will create topic pages. Sometimes. It's we're looking at usage, or we're looking at, you know. Top search terms from us.

[00:20:38.000]
Usage reports. We also look at curriculum.

[00:20:41.000]
And also hear from you. All this is a topic we study all the time, or it's part of our public library programming, or it's studied in schools and be really great to have a topic page for us.

[00:20:51.000]
For that, and we'll.

[00:20:53.000]
Our content. Editors and subject matter. Specialists work hard on that. That's great information to share either with me or with your customer. Success, managers.

[00:21:01.000]
Once you click into that topic page, you can see how the content is organized by content types.

[00:21:08.000]
Here's 2 boxes. We show usually the top 3, and then you can see we have 28 different reference articles or documents available different magazine articles available.

[00:21:20.000]
In our elementary resource. I had mentioned the topic right from the homepage you can select the topic of, say, animals and drill down the very visual user, friendly way.

[00:21:33.000]
Once I've selected dogs. It takes me to that topic page where I have an image, an essay overview where I can keep reading. I have quick facts on my page, and then below you can see my book articles.

[00:21:45.000]
Any ebooks like I mentioned, the ebooks are integrated into this.

[00:21:49.000]
And those are.

[00:21:51.000]
You know, depending on your collection. You have, like, I said, a huge collection from Florida electronic library. You may also have your own gale ebooks.

[00:21:59.000]
This is where your elementary students could access not only the content from Gale and contacts elementary, but those ebooks that are related to that topic. If you have any available in your collection.

[00:22:09.000]
Which you have quite a few, so.

[00:22:12.000]
Topic finder is a visual representation of your search results.

[00:22:17.000]
It is a great way for users to find content. You'll find this in your in context, resources.

[00:22:22.000]
It's linked from the homepage. It's also available under advanced search. And then you'll also see it in your search results. The ability to access Topicfinder. And I'll share that with you today.

[00:22:33.000]
Where you can click into a tile. It's interactive.

[00:22:37.000]
And drill down by just a few clicks to content. And it could be images. It could be article content available on the right hand side. There. It's a like, I said. It's an interactive tool, and it's a visual representation of your search results.

[00:22:54.000]
Advanced search, and we have great search limits that are available.

[00:23:00.000]
We've even shared some tips on using operators and special characters here, but advanced search can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be, and we do have again some support there for our users that are accessing that information. But it's a great way to drill down before you start your searches that we have available you can filter by content.

[00:23:25.000]
Types or by document types if you want to. And there's a variety of other lex cell measure and content level available here, too. And you're in context, resources.

[00:23:36.000]
Alright, please let me know if you have any questions, but with that let's jump into your resources before I do the 1st thing I want to share with you is your.

[00:23:48.000]
Support page I had mentioned that I had already shared the link talked about getting your direct. Urls. This is this the link I posted in the chat.

[00:23:58.000]
You can see it also here at the top for those watching the recording, and I will share it at the end of today's training. But this is the support page that we've created for the Florida Electronic Library. You have that ability to find your library name.

[00:24:13.000]
Once I do.

[00:24:16.000]
Let me pick in. Pick this high school.

[00:24:18.000]
I click, proceed.

[00:24:20.000]
And it'll take me to all of my direct Urls.

[00:24:25.000]
I can export those links and post them right on my library website.

[00:24:30.000]
I also have my ebook information. We do have direct Urls for your ebooks. They all do live on the Gale ebooks, platform.

[00:24:39.000]
So you'll find that. Let me put it in here. I'll do a quick product. Search.

[00:24:46.000]
So they do live on the scale. Ebooks, platform.

[00:24:49.000]
So that's that's available to you all. But you do also have.

[00:24:53.000]
The direct Urls and Mark records, if you would like the markets. They are here too.

[00:25:03.000]
Under training is where you're going to find first, st all the Florida Library specific training. So upcoming trainings. Here's today's, this is the one we have for next month.

[00:25:13.000]
And all of the recordings that we have done.

[00:25:17.000]
So the new one will be listed here.

[00:25:20.000]
You can see, I'll say, 4. Any specific tutorials or tip sheets or resource guides activities that we want to, that we want to share.

[00:25:27.000]
You also have, and that's the 1st tab. The second tab is training information by product.

[00:25:34.000]
So if I wanted everything for since we're talking about elementary first.st

[00:25:39.000]
If I'm looking for something to support library, or I want some ready to go. Student activities in my classroom with Gale In Context: elementary. You'll see those listed here at the top.

[00:25:50.000]

We have resource, guides.

[00:26:02.000]
Tip sheets that we have available.

[00:26:05.000]
Training toolkits. This is a newer tool that we have, and tutorials.

[00:26:12.000]
Training Toolkits.

[00:26:15.000]
These are click sheets that we have available, that take you from the basics all the way to delivering your own training and finding help. So we've curated our training materials to help you get started.

[00:26:27.000]
With the resources. It's really a comprehensive guide to our training materials that we have and really takes you through that process.

[00:26:36.000]
Alright!

[00:26:37.000]
And then you also have.

[00:26:40.000]
Me scroll back up, close this one out!

[00:26:43.000]
Like, I said, quite a few materials available. We even have templates like escape room templates. Here's the escape room template. We have some sample ones available. But we do have some templates available for you to scavenger hunt templates things like that.

[00:26:56.000]
Looking to market your resources. We also have great marketing tools available. And again, these are organized by product, just like we saw in the last.

[00:27:05.000]
On the last page.

[00:27:07.000]
Blog templates, price releases social media posts, bookmarks. We have some flyers available in Spanish.

[00:27:15.000]
And then technical documents, Vpad information. And then this will take you to the Florida Library website, which let me share that with you next. So if this is.

[00:27:25.000]
The point you're accessing from.

[00:27:26.000]
The homepage has changed. It's recently been updated.

[00:27:29.000]
You can go browse by grade level right here from the homepage you can browse by subject or interest, or what's most popular.

[00:27:39.000]
There's a tab for educators and one for magazines. And then here's some featured resources that we have available on the homepage. And this is summer, 2,024. These are the resources that are being featured, and for my academical has all of those Spanish and Portuguese publications available within it.

[00:28:00.000]
So I can click into if I wanted to click into. Let's go by subject.

[00:28:05.000]
You can see it takes me 1st to art. But if I wanted to go to, let's say careers, here are the resources.

[00:28:13.000]
That you can access, or if I want to change that to.

[00:28:18.000]
Sorry.

[00:28:19.000]
Maybe I want what's popular.

[00:28:22.000]
You can see the resources that are trending right now.

[00:28:27.000]
Or maybe I want all of my magazine content.

[00:28:32.000]
Okay.

[00:28:33.000]
So a great way to find that content in from your florid library website.

[00:28:42.000]
It shouldn't take me back to that homepage. Here, let me share this link. Did I share this? I already shared it.

[00:28:48.000]
So it is in the chat.

[00:28:49.000]
Okay.

[00:28:51.000]
So now let's dive in. Let's dive into your resources. So the 1st one I'm going to go into is.

[00:28:58.000]
Gale In Context:, Elementary.

[00:29:00.000]
Looks a little large. There we go.

[00:29:02.000]
Gale and contacts elementary. And there's a few things I want to point out on this resource. Now, the tools and features are this are shared across all of your gale resources. So I'm just going continue to build your knowledge and go through each of the resources.

[00:29:13.000]
And let. And like, I said, you're going to find all of those tools to support accessibility across all of your gale resources. So.

[00:29:21.000]
With Gale and contacts elementary I had mentioned. You have a great topic before I jump into that topic tree. I want to share with you.

[00:29:29.000]
The sound and let me make sure I turned on. I did my computer sound. You.

[00:29:33.000]
Your younger users have the ability to toggle the sound on and off to help them navigate through the resource.

[00:29:40.000]
So when I click, sound on.

[00:29:43.000]
And wherever my cursor is.

[00:29:46.000]
It will read that text.

[00:29:49.000]
Pictures.

[00:29:50.000]
News.

[00:29:52.000]
I wonder!

[00:29:55.000]
I wonder!

[00:29:56.000]
What do hawks and falcons have in.

[00:30:00.000]
Find out!

[00:30:02.000]
New question.

[00:30:04.000]
Arden, music.

[00:30:05.000]
Health.

[00:30:06.000]
You get the idea right?

[00:30:07.000]
I can turn that sound off.

[00:30:09.000]
Or I can turn it on, but that is to help me navigate through the resource this is separate than.

[00:30:15.000]
When I'm listening to text being read aloud to me at the document level.

[00:30:20.000]
So this is on Gale In contact, and it is really designed for our younger users.

[00:30:26.000]
We also have.

[00:30:28.000]
These topics.

[00:30:29.000]
Or content types, I should say here, at the top of the page where I have my topics.

[00:30:34.000]
And that's my home.

[00:30:35.000]
I have. You saw that, I wonder? Question we talked about those you're going see, those in a couple of different places.

[00:30:41.000]
Here all of my books I have available. They're organized on shelves.

[00:30:46.000]
I can go directly into.

[00:30:48.000]
A title.

[00:30:50.000]
I can listen to it being read aloud to me.

[00:30:54.000]
There's that. Listen, feature.

[00:30:56.000]
I can enlarge, you know, increase or decrease. I can make this whole screen, and then I have some tools on the left hand side, including if I want to search for a term, or I was struggling with a word I could use, and it pulls right from the children's elementary. Webster's Elementary Dictionary, you'll find that's where this will be. Pull like any words that they're struggling with will be pulled from.

[00:31:20.000]
And then I have additional content, like the full citation. And then here's that same bookshelf. I can jump to another title.

[00:31:26.000]
Here's the piece. Dragon.

[00:31:29.000]
And it takes me right in. It doesn't take me to the cover. It takes me right in, as you can see.

[00:31:34.000]
To write into the book itself.

[00:31:38.000]
Okay. If I wanted to grab a link to this book, I can use the get link tool. If I need to translate the text of the book. I would need to be in text view.

[00:31:50.000]
Okay? So I can translate the ebooks. I just need to be in text view. So I don't have this Pdf view when I'm in text view.

[00:31:59.000]
That's all of our ebooks work that way. I still have the pictures.

[00:32:02.000]
But I don't have that same text view. And this is where I can translate that text.

[00:32:08.000]
Right under this icon.

[00:32:12.000]
So I still have pictures, and I can still turn the page. It's just not going to.

[00:32:17.000]
Look like the book view.

[00:32:21.000]
Alright. So that is our book Content. And these any books that are related to anything, either a topic page, or if I were to put a search term in that are related to my search results. They will automatically show up.

[00:32:34.000]
In my search results.

[00:32:37.000]
On the news tab. I have newspaper articles at the different publications at the top documents, and then I have all my fun facts for July.

[00:32:45.000]
National hot dog, day.

[00:32:47.000]
Was just not too long ago New York became a state.

[00:32:51.000]
Coming up here this weekend.

[00:32:53.000]
And then or no. On Friday.

[00:32:55.000]
So you can. I always love to come in here and see what's trending? I there's always a national like national world snake day.

[00:33:03.000]
But there's all kinds of holidays like.

[00:33:06.000]
National giraffe day or hippopotamus day. I always love to see what's trending.

[00:33:11.000]
We have all kinds of pictures. It looks like we've added some newer infographics. You'll find timelines and infographics available, but we have all kinds of images available within the resources you can see here, and anytime I can do a quick search. Let's say I want one on plants.

[00:33:30.000]
And you can see all of that great content. We even have unlabeled and unlabeled images.

[00:33:36.000]
Available in the resources.

[00:33:38.000]
In this resource.

[00:33:40.000]
And then video content.

[00:33:43.000]
Again. I can filter down and find exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm looking for life cycle.

[00:33:53.000]
And here's all the video content I have available.

[00:33:58.000]
Great, for brain breaks, too, in the classroom.

[00:34:01.000]
Alright. So let's do a quick people search. We went through all of the overview of this resource. Now let's go into a people. Search.

[00:34:10.000]
And.

[00:34:13.000]
She's probably in 2 places. But let's go to scientists and inventors.

[00:34:19.000]
And specifically.

[00:34:23.000]
I'm looking at Katherine Johnson.

[00:34:25.000]
So if I wanted to share this with my students, I could use the get link tool or pull this into Google classroom. Maybe I want to make it part of my public library programming. I wanna share this content. I can use the get link tool, and it provides a persistent URL back to this topic. Page, it's a great way to supplement what you are doing in the Public Library.

[00:34:44.000]
Or if you know, you have students coming in and they're asking about different inventors, maybe specifically female scientists they're interested in. You can, you know, share this information about Katherine Johnson. We have some quick facts on her.

[00:34:58.000]
And then organize. Below are the content types.

[00:35:02.000]
Pictures and any related topics we have.

[00:35:06.000]
The image and essay overview.

[00:35:09.000]
Are leveled so you can see you have a level one or a level 2 available.

[00:35:15.000]
There's another image. This one has words to know.

[00:35:18.000]
Early life.

[00:35:20.000]
Career.

[00:35:21.000]
So on and so forth, where the level 2.

[00:35:24.000]
Sometimes as words to know other times. It has main ideas.

[00:35:28.000]
The image change so you can see.

[00:35:31.000]
In this overview we are at a little bit higher reading level.

[00:35:35.000]
Alright. Another feature that I have, and I'm going go into another topic.

[00:35:40.000]
This time I'm going do a basic search. Although majority of your time, your students are.

[00:35:47.000]
They are accessing information, using the topic tree.

[00:35:52.000]
So they're typically going into.

[00:35:55.000]
Let's say we wanted to go into social studies. This is the path they take.

[00:36:01.000]
And.

[00:36:03.000]
Let's go to native American tribes.

[00:36:07.000]
And I can select a tribe.

[00:36:13.000]
Now what I wanted to share with you here. If I go into any of my document types, I want to filter down my content levels.

[00:36:22.000]
I'm going click into book articles.

[00:36:24.000]
And to the right. I have the ability to filter down by content level.

[00:36:29.000]
So these are. You can see the lexile measures they're related to now. I will have.

[00:36:35.000]
Lot majority will be level ones and twos, but I might have some little higher level documents in here and let me share with you why I'm seeing these in in my results. Sometimes.

[00:36:46.000]
Because there might be a word, a word that skews it a little bit higher, so we might see that fee that content available here. Sometimes it's something weird, like a bullet point.

[00:37:20.000]
But I can easily filter down that content.

[00:37:23.000]
By lexile measure or content level here. And if I need more information on what are the content levels.

[00:37:30.000]
I have this little help, guide.

[00:37:33.000]
Although it says it right here. So. But sometimes people want more information.

[00:37:38.000]
Alright!

[00:37:40.000]
So we talked about get Link. We talked about the content types. Now let's take a jump from elementary and let's go into.

[00:37:49.000]
We're going to go into general. One file.

[00:37:53.000]
So this is our largest periodical.

[00:37:59.000]
That has general.

[00:38:01.000]
Reference content. So again, you're going to find popular magazines.

[00:38:05.000]
Some academic journals here, some multimedia.

[00:38:08.000]
Is available within this resource, but it really is focused on that periodical content. Let me show you a couple of things here.

[00:38:16.000]
So I have that ability to do a search basic search. But I have this browse by topic, which is a really helpful tool that I can utilize within the resource. My contextual toolbar is here.

[00:38:28.000]
And then I have some search tool options available, like topic, guide, search, and even publication search.

[00:38:37.000]
Let's go into news and current events.

[00:38:42.000]
And specifically, let's go into pollution.

[00:38:50.000]
Now, when I'm at this level again, I can use the get link tool. I can share this to Google classroom. But what I want to share with you is filtering down your results.

[00:38:59.000]
So you have. You can see quite a few magazines, academic journals. We have newspapers, over 419,000 newspapers. So maybe I want to filter this down pollution. There's information that's being added to these resources every day. But I want to filter it down a quick way to do that is, by using publication date.

[00:39:18.000]
Subject document type. I have certain titles. If I'm looking for, I can multi select publication titles.

[00:39:25.000]
Sections, applies to my newspapers.

[00:39:28.000]
I have Lexell measures, so I don't have content types in this one. But I do have lexile measure.

[00:39:35.000]
And then I have that ability to search within. So I could put a specific term in there and find content. So if I were. Maybe I'm interested in Eric, specifically, air pollution.

[00:39:45.000]
I can select air pollution, and it drills everything down at once. I'm still at 164,000 news articles.

[00:39:53.000]
So I could filter that down, maybe by publication date. If I really want it focused and really drill down my content. I can look at the past year.

[00:40:01.000]
And now I can see magazine, academic journals and news articles still, a lot.

[00:40:07.000]
But it's a smaller.

[00:40:08.000]
Smaller window, or smaller.

[00:40:11.000]
Bucket of information.

[00:40:13.000]
Right.

[00:40:15.000]
All of our

[00:40:17.000]
Our summary. You can see everything's hyperlinked out. Each individual article I have. Even my publications are hyperlinked out. I get some information here.

[00:40:25.000]
If it's a peer review. I have peer reviewed, listed here.

[00:40:29.000]
In my academic journals, and then you can see my news articles.

[00:40:33.000]
If I select.

[00:40:36.000]
An article. I'm just going to select this one here.

[00:40:42.000]
I have all of my tools to support accessibility. So I have that ability to translate the article into over 50 languages. Not only that, but I have the ability to translate the interface, and I can do that in 2 spots.

[00:40:55.000]
As soon as I sit down.

[00:40:56.000]
And the top bar.

[00:40:59.000]
Where I can sign in with Google or Microsoft.

[00:41:02.000]
I can translate my navigational tools. We're at 34 languages here.

[00:41:07.000]
So as soon as I sit down, if I need my navigational tool, say in Spanish.

[00:41:11.000]
I can do that, and it translates my navigation. You can see even here at the article level, what it's translating.

[00:41:20.000]
Me go back to English.

[00:41:23.000]
And this is separate than translating the document.

[00:41:26.000]
When I translate the article itself again, I have 50 languages to choose from.

[00:41:31.000]
And let's use Spanish again.

[00:41:36.000]
And I get this.

[00:41:37.000]
Notification 1st like, do you want to complete the translation, or were you? We get sometimes, especially with students, where.

[00:41:44.000]
They just wanna see what it looks like. So we do ask first, st do they want to complete that translation or not?

[00:41:50.000]
And then, once I complete that translation, then all of my tools to support accessibility will pop back up. I don't need to to complete that to see you could just seeing a sample here now. So I'm going cancel it.

[00:42:03.000]
I can decrease or increase that font, size.

[00:42:07.000]
My display, options.

[00:42:11.000]
I can change the color behind the text.

[00:42:14.000]
Change The Font.

[00:42:15.000]
Increase the line, letter and wordp.

[00:42:20.000]
And now this will stick with me throughout my session.

[00:42:26.000]
So if I go to, let's go back to pollution.

[00:42:29.000]
Takes me back to everything this time. Let's go into a news article.

[00:42:36.000]
I sort by newest.

[00:42:41.000]
You can see it stuck with me.

[00:42:44.000]
Okay. Great feature we have available again, that's under display options at the document level.

[00:42:50.000]
If I want to go back to my default settings, I have that option here.

[00:42:54.000]
I just can click. Done.

[00:42:56.000]
But my enlarge tech sticks with me also. Throughout the session.

[00:42:59.000]
I have the listen feature and let me show you. Listen. Some things have been updated here, so if you are familiar with your gale resources, and haven't been in here in a little bit.

[00:43:08.000]
We did update our listen, button takes a little bit to load, but it'll start highlighting as it reads aloud.

[00:43:14.000]
The text in both the sentence and the word in 2 different colors.

[00:43:23.000]
Okay.

[00:43:24.000]
Findings from University of Queensland. Understanding of Science. Mandating indoor.

[00:43:25.000]
So I have some settings available.

[00:43:28.000]
Under the settings gear is where I can change what's being highlighted. So I can customize this to what I need.

[00:43:34.000]
I can also slow down the speed that's up here at the top.

[00:43:39.000]
So this 1st box controls what's happening on the page, the second, the second box.

[00:43:43.000]
Controls the what's happening in the box?

[00:43:48.000]
So what I mean by that is, if I want to increase the font size of the what I'm seeing in this pop up box. I can do that.

[00:43:55.000]
Okay, where this.

[00:43:57.000]
Speed would control the speed of the reading.

[00:43:59.000]
Itself.

[00:44:03.000]
I also have.

[00:44:04.000]
The ability to turn off the automatic scrolling.

[00:44:07.000]
Which is defaulted to on I can re. I have some keyboard shortcuts, and then this gives me the ability to reset any settings that I set up.

[00:44:17.000]
You'll also see under the more button the ability to enlarge the text. Download as an Mp. 3, and where you can go for help. Let me enlarge that text and show you what it looks like.

[00:44:28.000]
So I and Logitech, I'm clicking play.

[00:44:33.000]
And it's going to pull out on the page.

[00:44:37.000]
I'm surprised. It's I must have picked a really long article. Yeah, I did.

[00:44:41.000]
Findings from University of Queensland. Understanding of Science. Mandi.

[00:44:45.000]
So it pulls that text onto the page. I can hear decrease.

[00:44:49.000]
Or increase.

[00:44:51.000]
That font, play, or stop.

[00:44:56.000]
I can increase the volume here.

[00:44:57.000]
The listen button, and then, if I just want to remove everything at once, I just click the X.

[00:45:03.000]
And it'll remove it all.

[00:45:05.000]
But that feature is available for anyone that needs it. And you have that in large text that pulls it right out onto the page for your users.

[00:45:15.000]
Alright! If I wanted to keep this article I could quickly send it to.

[00:45:18.000]
Microsoft email, download or print. I also have those options here at the top. Why do we put them in 2 places? Well, I could be further down the article and decide, okay, I definitely want to send this to my Google drive onedrive or email.

[00:45:34.000]
I want to download or print this off.

[00:45:36.000]
I have the source citation at the bottom.

[00:45:39.000]
It's always attached, and it always is defaulted to Mla. 9th edition. I can change that format before I send it.

[00:45:46.000]
If I want to, or need to.

[00:45:49.000]
I can also export the citation.

[00:45:52.000]
Up here. You're going to see that citation tool in the contextual toolbar. This is just for the citation itself.

[00:45:58.000]
So it's this, the standalone citation.

[00:46:02.000]
