OK. Hello and welcome everyone
[00:00:07.118]
today. We're going to talk about how you can utilize
[00:00:09.608]
Gale's ChilltonLibrary to support auto
[00:00:12.009]
tech students.
[00:00:13.259]
My name is Amber Winters and I am a
[00:00:15.278]
senior training consultant here with
[00:00:17.289]
Gale
[00:00:18.929]
our agenda today. First, we're just going to go
[00:00:21.048]
over a few of the key features within
[00:00:23.079]
Chilton Library that are going to be beneficial
[00:00:25.298]
specifically for students.
[00:00:27.399]
Then we're going to walk through the resource, we'll spend
[00:00:29.649]
the majority of the time there. So you can see the
[00:00:31.690]
different workflows your students are going to be experiencing.
[00:00:34.759]
and kind of get a feeling of how
[00:00:36.868]
you should direct them as you're demoing this
[00:00:38.899]
to your users.
[00:00:40.368]
And then at the very end of the session, I do have
[00:00:42.478]
some support information as well as some wrap
[00:00:44.709]
up contact info.
[00:00:46.658]
So we'll have that at the very end for you.
[00:00:48.639]
And again, I just want to remind everyone if you have questions
[00:00:51.109]
as we move along, feel free to put them into
[00:00:53.118]
the Q and A box. It's already open for you
[00:00:55.298]
and I should be able to answer them as we move forward
[00:00:57.789]
if that Q and A box does get a little bit
[00:01:00.090]
inundated. Then questions will wait until
[00:01:02.228]
the end of the session, but just know your questions
[00:01:04.650]
will be answered as long as they're in that Q and A box.
[00:01:09.109]
So let's go ahead and get started here talking about
[00:01:11.180]
some of the bits of content and different
[00:01:13.359]
features that are going to be important specifically
[00:01:15.799]
for your students, whether you're joining
[00:01:18.400]
me from A K 12 library learning community
[00:01:21.109]
or you're here with the public library, this
[00:01:23.439]
is going to be really beneficial for any students
[00:01:25.709]
you're working with. The first is going to be Chilton's
[00:01:27.900]
video library
[00:01:30.129]
and all of our videos are short. They, they're usually
[00:01:32.329]
under a minute. I've seen some that are maybe slightly
[00:01:34.698]
over a minute, but they're really
[00:01:37.219]
honed and really pared down. So they're really hitting
[00:01:39.448]
just one specific bit of information,
[00:01:41.668]
you know, maybe it's installing brakes or
[00:01:44.260]
um
[00:01:45.180]
changing oil, it's going to be something very,
[00:01:47.510]
very small and specific
[00:01:49.769]
to kind of get your students learning,
[00:01:51.909]
get them interested in it.
[00:01:53.519]
And this is actually found directly on the home page.
[00:01:55.909]
So students won't have to click through anything if they
[00:01:57.948]
don't want to, they won't need to, you know, run a search
[00:02:00.219]
or anything like that.
[00:02:01.319]
They can click directly into the video library
[00:02:03.579]
right off the home page.
[00:02:06.000]
And these excuse me, these videos
[00:02:08.219]
are really helpful for those students
[00:02:10.649]
who are just starting to learn auto
[00:02:12.960]
tech who maybe aren't even working on cars
[00:02:14.969]
yet. This is just going to give them a kind
[00:02:17.088]
of a visual look at what they're going to be doing. So
[00:02:19.368]
if they're really at that starting point,
[00:02:21.469]
they're not touched a car, they're just
[00:02:23.500]
getting themselves prepared. This may be
[00:02:25.599]
a good place to send them. This is also great
[00:02:27.909]
as a review. So if they are starting
[00:02:30.099]
to work with cars and you know, they've got
[00:02:32.099]
an assessment coming up to make sure they understand
[00:02:34.229]
how to change brakes.
[00:02:36.038]
They can go back, take a look at a video quickly
[00:02:38.129]
for a nice short review
[00:02:40.159]
and then go ahead and take that quiz.
[00:02:44.050]
Moving forward from there. Our diagnostic
[00:02:46.618]
and repair manuals are going to be really helpful
[00:02:48.710]
when they do actually start engaging with
[00:02:50.729]
cars and actually get that hands on
[00:02:52.838]
experience, experience with their cars.
[00:02:55.649]
This is organized into a really simple
[00:02:57.778]
drop down table of contents, which is really
[00:02:59.860]
going to guide your students as they're looking for
[00:03:02.008]
information.
[00:03:03.210]
So we've gotten this all nice and neat and
[00:03:05.278]
organized for them and we're providing step
[00:03:07.500]
by step instructions, of course, which is what you would
[00:03:09.558]
expect from Children li Children library.
[00:03:12.149]
But we also have a huge
[00:03:14.409]
collection of diagrams that are included
[00:03:16.689]
in a lot of these repair manuals that
[00:03:18.860]
are really going to help your visual
[00:03:20.949]
learners as they walk through whatever they're
[00:03:23.020]
doing, fixing the engine working on the transmission,
[00:03:26.020]
Each of these diagrams can
[00:03:28.149]
be in the large. So they can really get a feel
[00:03:30.360]
of what they're looking at. They'll see, not
[00:03:32.379]
only the piece of the car that they're looking
[00:03:34.629]
at, but they'll also see all of the attachments,
[00:03:36.899]
the screws, the bolts, they'll see
[00:03:39.050]
where all of that goes and how it can all be taken
[00:03:41.409]
apart and put back together successfully.
[00:03:44.649]
In addition, we also have electrical diagrams.
[00:03:47.008]
So if you have students who are kind of getting
[00:03:49.110]
to that really advanced level where they're working on
[00:03:51.349]
engine electronics, they'll find
[00:03:53.528]
diagrams for that within Chilton Library as well.
[00:03:55.788]
So these diagnostic and repair manuals
[00:03:58.099]
are really kind of developed for the
[00:04:00.149]
very, very early beginners all the way
[00:04:02.288]
to the more the more advanced users who
[00:04:04.379]
are ready to maybe even, you know, graduate from
[00:04:06.439]
auto tech school and they're ready to get into their,
[00:04:09.038]
their automotive careers.
[00:04:12.330]
And finally, one third feature that's
[00:04:14.960]
really important specifically for students
[00:04:17.278]
is going to be our A se test
[00:04:19.298]
prep and we have quizzes for 13
[00:04:21.750]
of the exam ar areas
[00:04:23.980]
and they are multiple choice and graded automatically.
[00:04:26.480]
So students will be able to just click through
[00:04:28.639]
answer all of their questions. Once
[00:04:30.660]
they submit them, they'll get this nice automatic
[00:04:33.160]
view of their results. It's going to show them
[00:04:35.369]
if they got it correct. They'll see that if
[00:04:37.459]
they got it incorrect, they'll see that and they'll see
[00:04:39.569]
the correct answer as well.
[00:04:42.660]
And students have unlimited attempts
[00:04:44.750]
with these quizzes. So, a
[00:04:46.389]
nice suggestion that I have when I'm showing
[00:04:48.720]
this to students is if they're preparing to
[00:04:50.769]
take that A S A test prep or a test,
[00:04:53.369]
whatever test it is run through
[00:04:55.410]
the prep, submit it. See what you got
[00:04:57.488]
wrong from that point, go back
[00:04:59.689]
to Chilton, figure out why you got it wrong
[00:05:01.988]
and figure out how you can get to the right answer
[00:05:04.048]
next time
[00:05:05.108]
and then they can come back and take it again to see
[00:05:07.220]
if they've really kind of gained that knowledge
[00:05:09.278]
that they seem to be lacking before.
[00:05:12.350]
So these are the three kind of features
[00:05:14.649]
of Chilton library that we're really going to focus
[00:05:16.778]
on today because these are the ones that are
[00:05:19.988]
designed specifically to help students.
[00:05:24.699]
And I do want to mention that Chilton
[00:05:27.220]
library is completely mobile responsive.
[00:05:29.750]
So if your students are taking this with
[00:05:31.889]
them into the shop and they're going to be actively
[00:05:34.220]
working on their car while they're looking at a manual
[00:05:36.730]
or a video within Chilton. Not only
[00:05:38.928]
can they do that and a laptop, they can also
[00:05:41.220]
pull it up on their tablet if they want to do it
[00:05:43.259]
that way and they can also pull it up on their phone.
[00:05:45.600]
So this is a really nice way to have the content
[00:05:47.829]
directly there with them as well. They don't need to worry
[00:05:49.988]
about, you know, having it pulled up on
[00:05:52.108]
the computer and then running back to their car and
[00:05:54.129]
when they have a question, running back to their computer,
[00:05:56.338]
they can set up their laptop or their
[00:05:58.428]
phone right next to where they're working right in their
[00:06:00.540]
workspace and they'll have the same
[00:06:02.649]
full experience of Chilton Library
[00:06:04.858]
right there available for them. It is again,
[00:06:07.000]
fully mobile responsive. So they'll have
[00:06:09.048]
all of the same features that they would have if they
[00:06:11.119]
were using just a standard laptop
[00:06:13.488]
computer.
[00:06:17.910]
So let's go ahead and take a look. I don't wanna spend too much
[00:06:20.059]
more time just talking at you. I want us to all
[00:06:22.139]
take a look here. But do I have any questions
[00:06:24.988]
before? I just kind of jump right over here?
[00:06:30.759]
Ok. I
[00:06:31.559]
don't see any. So let's go ahead and jump in
[00:06:33.670]
here. So this is the home page of Chilton
[00:06:35.889]
Library. Hopefully you've all seen it
[00:06:38.178]
a little bit. We're not going to go all the way
[00:06:40.319]
through it today because we just want to look at those
[00:06:42.910]
kind of student focused materials
[00:06:45.350]
and sections.
[00:06:46.660]
So before I put in a vehicle, I'm not going to
[00:06:48.699]
focus on that just yet. I wanna show you
[00:06:50.738]
at the very top in this toolbar here,
[00:06:53.189]
your students can access both
[00:06:55.220]
that video library that I mentioned mentioned
[00:06:57.608]
and the A se test prep quizzes
[00:07:00.189]
without even entering a vehicle.
[00:07:02.608]
So if they don't have something in mind, you know, again,
[00:07:04.920]
they don't have a car they're working on just yet. They're just
[00:07:06.980]
getting started. They can just click directly
[00:07:09.250]
into the video library, let's say,
[00:07:12.160]
and it pulls them forward and it does
[00:07:14.319]
start off on the most popular videos. So
[00:07:16.329]
these are the ones that are clicked on and
[00:07:18.439]
utilized most within Chilton Library.
[00:07:21.079]
But on this left hand side, we also
[00:07:23.139]
include a nice table of contents here
[00:07:25.439]
so they can start to narrow it down. Maybe they're interested
[00:07:27.649]
in wiring. Let's say they can drop that down,
[00:07:29.829]
maybe electrical repairs.
[00:07:32.278]
And you see, this has a few automatic
[00:07:35.230]
automa.
[00:07:36.769]
Excuse me today, I've got some word salad going
[00:07:38.949]
on, animated tech
[00:07:41.509]
tips that are going to show them
[00:07:44.170]
what they're going to go through. So they get
[00:07:46.238]
a little text with it.
[00:07:47.738]
They can kind of scroll through
[00:07:53.678]
and then they can just jump back either using this
[00:07:55.889]
breadcrumb trail of top here or using anything
[00:07:58.230]
on this left hand side and they can click
[00:08:00.420]
into anything else. They want to take a look at if they
[00:08:02.439]
do click into a full video as opposed
[00:08:04.588]
to that kind of animated
[00:08:06.670]
tech tip. Let me pull this up here.
[00:08:09.629]
It does pull it forward with captions
[00:08:11.980]
automatically enabled. They can turn
[00:08:14.048]
those off by hitting the more options here. So
[00:08:16.149]
if they prefer to have them off, they can certainly do that,
[00:08:19.040]
they can change the playback speed. So if they need
[00:08:21.230]
it just a little bit slower to understand
[00:08:23.238]
they can do that
[00:08:24.660]
and they can also download this, which is like on a really
[00:08:26.910]
nice feature. Of course, this is mobile responsive.
[00:08:29.519]
So your students can access these videos
[00:08:31.778]
even if they're on their phone. But if they want to take
[00:08:34.038]
it completely offline with them, you know, they're not
[00:08:36.158]
even going to have access to a phone. Let's say
[00:08:38.509]
they're not gonna have access to any sort of internet.
[00:08:40.750]
They can download this video, save it to the
[00:08:42.759]
desktop or whatever they need to save it to
[00:08:45.440]
and watch it whenever they need to.
[00:08:48.668]
And you'll see we do prompt them
[00:08:50.700]
to look at some similar videos here on this
[00:08:52.808]
right hand side as well. So again, I clicked
[00:08:54.940]
into wiring. So you'll see a lot of these are
[00:08:56.960]
related to electricity and wiring
[00:08:59.298]
of a car here.
[00:09:02.979]
So again, without even searching, your students
[00:09:04.989]
are finding this content, if they have
[00:09:07.099]
something really specific in mind, we do
[00:09:09.178]
have a search here listed at
[00:09:11.259]
the very top of the table of contents
[00:09:13.519]
so they can search through all of these videos
[00:09:15.658]
here. The search bar does only search
[00:09:17.908]
the videos so they're not going to pull up
[00:09:20.070]
any of the manuals or anything like that. They're just
[00:09:22.200]
going to get a search through the videos
[00:09:24.349]
that we have available here.
[00:09:28.599]
And now next to this video library is
[00:09:30.609]
where we're going to find that test prep
[00:09:32.788]
section here. So again, they don't need to enter
[00:09:34.889]
in car information or anything like that.
[00:09:37.109]
They can just click directly to the test prep
[00:09:39.149]
quizzes.
[00:09:43.019]
Now, we've got them all listed out here. So you'll see
[00:09:45.369]
what the exam title is. We tell them the number
[00:09:47.519]
of questions ahead of time. And then these
[00:09:49.558]
are again, all multiple choice that are automatically
[00:09:51.889]
graded. Let's click into the
[00:09:53.918]
shortest one here.
[00:09:56.129]
The heating and cooling one is only eight questions.
[00:09:58.418]
So we'll click into the shortest one.
[00:10:00.279]
So once they come in, they'll be able to
[00:10:02.320]
answer all of their questions. Let
[00:10:04.349]
me run through and answer them quickly so
[00:10:06.649]
we can see what the results look like here.
[00:10:10.219]
We'll see if I get any right. So they can
[00:10:12.259]
go through and answer all of those
[00:10:17.320]
looks like. So it's asking if I want
[00:10:19.440]
to submit.
[00:10:20.479]
I didn't, I attempted everything.
[00:10:22.859]
So you see a zero here. So it's not prompting me to
[00:10:24.899]
answer any questions that I didn't answer. So
[00:10:27.219]
just go ahead and hit confirm.
[00:10:31.149]
Yeah. And now we're going to see my results.
[00:10:33.408]
So what's great is I can actually hover over these
[00:10:35.558]
different pieces on this, these
[00:10:37.750]
little charts here. So I'll be able to
[00:10:39.808]
see. I've got one answer correct and I have
[00:10:42.070]
seven wrong if I didn't attempt
[00:10:44.259]
any. Maybe I skipped some because I just
[00:10:46.658]
honestly had no idea and I didn't want to even
[00:10:48.710]
guess. I'll have some listed
[00:10:51.070]
here under not attempted. I will
[00:10:53.239]
say if you're having your students run through these,
[00:10:55.538]
I recommend having them answer even if they
[00:10:57.658]
don't know the answer at all. Just
[00:10:59.700]
have them guess. Because if they don't
[00:11:01.779]
attempt a question, it's not going to tell them
[00:11:03.899]
the correct answer.
[00:11:05.428]
The only way they'll see the correct answer is
[00:11:07.489]
if they actually get it wrong.
[00:11:11.239]
But you'll see here, we have our question. It's
[00:11:13.349]
going to tell us, what we
[00:11:15.408]
answered and then it will tell us the correct answer
[00:11:17.460]
here. If we got the correct answer, then
[00:11:19.869]
it's not going to show us anything here, but
[00:11:22.058]
it'll run through and you'll be able to see all of your
[00:11:24.219]
answers right here.
[00:11:27.440]
And once I'm done with this, I can close
[00:11:29.469]
it out
[00:11:30.889]
and I'm right back to my main
[00:11:33.109]
test prep section here
[00:11:36.320]
and these don't change these questions do stay
[00:11:38.590]
the same. So again, we recommend them
[00:11:40.859]
running through it once, figuring out
[00:11:43.000]
what they got wrong,
[00:11:44.349]
going back to the main body of
[00:11:46.418]
Chilton and the figuring out what
[00:11:48.489]
the correct answer is and why the correct answer
[00:11:50.750]
is what it is.
[00:11:55.649]
Now, I'm going to go ahead and jump back to the home
[00:11:57.808]
page here because we're going to take a look at the repair
[00:12:00.200]
manuals that are available for your users.
[00:12:02.599]
So I'm going to click on the Chilton Library button
[00:12:05.009]
or logo and the banner
[00:12:07.259]
up here now
[00:12:10.489]
to take a look at all of our um
[00:12:12.969]
our manuals and things like that. We do need to enter
[00:12:15.298]
a vehicle.
[00:12:16.779]
If your students don't have a specific vehicle,
[00:12:18.879]
that's fine. They can just
[00:12:20.739]
enter something similar or really enter anything.
[00:12:23.000]
A lot of materials are
[00:12:25.009]
going to be very, very similar, you know, changing
[00:12:27.048]
the oil in cars is
[00:12:29.820]
pretty similar no matter what type of car that
[00:12:31.830]
you're looking at. So if they don't have a specific
[00:12:33.840]
car in mind, they can just pop in
[00:12:36.019]
any year make and model to
[00:12:38.029]
still see content.
[00:12:39.418]
I am actually gonna go back a little
[00:12:41.570]
bit just if anyone's planning on
[00:12:43.609]
showing this to students, I always recommend
[00:12:45.808]
going back a few years to select
[00:12:47.928]
your vehicle just because car
[00:12:50.210]
manufacturers tend to release
[00:12:52.450]
more and more content as the car has been
[00:12:54.609]
out. You know, of course, they're going to have
[00:12:56.690]
more service recalls,
[00:12:58.928]
more bulletins and things like that. So
[00:13:01.080]
generally speaking, an older car is going
[00:13:03.139]
to have more published content more
[00:13:05.269]
for your students to see. So I'm gonna
[00:13:07.440]
go back to 2011 here
[00:13:09.639]
and I will click into Chevy
[00:13:12.899]
and you see, they can really narrow it down to whatever
[00:13:15.048]
they want. Let's do Impala,
[00:13:18.219]
ok. And then I'll just hit select
[00:13:20.700]
and now you'll see when I do that up top here, it's
[00:13:22.779]
showing me what my current vehicle is. So this is what
[00:13:24.908]
I just chose and I can change this.
[00:13:27.269]
So this is helpful, maybe if your students
[00:13:29.548]
are working on two different cars, you know, they work on
[00:13:31.558]
the brakes in one,
[00:13:33.080]
then they need to move over to work on the transmission
[00:13:35.609]
and another they can really easily
[00:13:37.690]
toggle back and forth between vehicles by hitting
[00:13:39.960]
the change vehicle button on top here.
[00:13:42.580]
But we'll stay in our in Pat today.
[00:13:45.340]
So just like the video library, you'll see,
[00:13:47.369]
we have our table of contents listed here on this
[00:13:49.469]
left hand side. And specifically
[00:13:51.570]
when we're talking about our repair manuals, this
[00:13:53.710]
is going to come in really handy because as
[00:13:55.798]
you would expect, there's a lot,
[00:13:58.038]
there's a lot going on in cars. So
[00:14:00.250]
again, we have our search bar if they have
[00:14:02.440]
something specific in mind, but
[00:14:04.500]
I actually prefer just kind of clicking and navigating
[00:14:07.009]
all the way down.
[00:14:08.849]
So if we take a look here, let's look at our engine
[00:14:11.229]
so we can drop that engine and we start to
[00:14:13.259]
get a little bit further down here. So maybe
[00:14:15.599]
engine electrical, we've
[00:14:17.678]
got another step here. Let's say we want
[00:14:19.808]
to remove it maybe,
[00:14:22.739]
and we'll go to, let's go to battery, we want to
[00:14:24.759]
replace our battery here. So your students kind
[00:14:26.769]
of pointed and clicked all the way down to where they want
[00:14:28.979]
to be. Once
[00:14:31.450]
on this page you'll see here. This is a pretty
[00:14:33.678]
detailed
[00:14:35.590]
diagram here showing the engine. I'm
[00:14:37.808]
being 100% honest. I don't know exactly what
[00:14:40.029]
the engine is showing. I know that's the battery,
[00:14:42.129]
but that's about it.
[00:14:43.590]
But they'll have that nice detailed
[00:14:45.808]
block. You'll see they can click to enlarge this
[00:14:48.019]
and they'll make it full screen so they can get a better visual
[00:14:50.330]
here. But
[00:14:52.750]
they'll have quite a few of those as they start to scroll down
[00:14:54.928]
and as I move forward from there,
[00:14:57.250]
you'll see now it's giving me the step by step instructions
[00:14:59.989]
and you see some of these have these hyperlinks next
[00:15:02.308]
to them and
[00:15:04.369]
that's generally going to be hyperlinking
[00:15:06.849]
them to a different manual. So a different
[00:15:09.048]
part of Chilton library. So,
[00:15:11.288]
oops, I went back too far.
[00:15:15.158]
Give me a second here. Everyone, I jumped way
[00:15:17.389]
too far back.
[00:15:22.090]
Let's get back to our battery here.
[00:15:24.798]
There we go.
[00:15:26.019]
Sorry, my fault. I jumped all the way back
[00:15:28.158]
there. But those hyperlinks are
[00:15:30.219]
going to allow them to take a look at whatever
[00:15:32.389]
that specific step is. So,
[00:15:34.548]
of course, sometimes if you're working on an
[00:15:36.599]
engine, you'll need to remove part of the body
[00:15:38.869]
of the car to take, to get to that part of
[00:15:40.908]
the engine. So this is going to connect
[00:15:42.940]
them to those documents that are going to help them
[00:15:44.960]
do that step.
[00:15:47.538]
You see again, as I scroll down, we've got
[00:15:49.639]
a few more manuals here,
[00:15:52.580]
actually got a bunch here. We have
[00:15:54.590]
some cautions as well. I really like to point
[00:15:56.769]
this out for new students who are just starting
[00:15:58.889]
to work with cars because obviously
[00:16:01.048]
cars are dangerous. So we do still
[00:16:03.139]
provide cautions and caution information
[00:16:05.149]
here to see if we can click into this and hear
[00:16:07.570]
the safety warnings about working
[00:16:09.690]
with fasteners,
[00:16:13.229]
think specifically about how you should tighten them.
[00:16:16.519]
But you see, we can scroll all the way to the bottom
[00:16:19.908]
and after they're done reading this article, they
[00:16:22.038]
will have changed the
[00:16:24.489]
engine's battery here.
[00:16:29.090]
Now, another key feature, let's go back
[00:16:31.288]
up here within Chilton library
[00:16:33.609]
is our listen tool that's going to be found
[00:16:35.629]
in all of our text. So it'll be in our,
[00:16:37.649]
our repair manuals,
[00:16:39.940]
our maintenance information, all that good stuff. It's
[00:16:42.080]
actually found here towards the top.
[00:16:44.668]
I'm just going to hit play and pause it because I'm not
[00:16:46.750]
sharing my
[00:16:48.330]
computer of sound. But when they hit
[00:16:50.399]
that listen button,
[00:16:52.580]
it's going to go through and read all of the text
[00:16:54.700]
for students. You'll see, it's already started here
[00:16:57.109]
and it's highlighting the word and the sentence
[00:16:59.788]
or this is kind of a statement on
[00:17:01.859]
a sentence that it's reading through.
[00:17:04.130]
So it's going to read through the full text for students.
[00:17:06.670]
It's not going to read any pictures.
[00:17:09.078]
Um, but it will read through
[00:17:11.150]
all of the steps. So like step 123
[00:17:13.699]
and four and five here, it's going to read through that for
[00:17:15.759]
them and
[00:17:19.098]
just make it a little bit easier for them to kind
[00:17:21.229]
of understand and they can actually
[00:17:23.368]
change the reading speed on this as well, just like
[00:17:25.459]
they could change the the speed
[00:17:27.779]
on the video library.
[00:17:30.259]
And they can also hit this little hamburger icon
[00:17:32.489]
down here under the listen button.
[00:17:34.699]
It's going to give them some additional help
[00:17:36.959]
so they can download the MP3 again.
[00:17:39.029]
If they just want to take this completely offline,
[00:17:41.689]
they can do that here by downloading the MP3
[00:17:45.809]
and we can click into the settings here
[00:17:48.779]
and this gives us some additional options. So if
[00:17:50.910]
we want to change how this is being read
[00:17:53.068]
to me, maybe I don't want any highlighting.
[00:17:55.500]
I think it's distracting. We can turn highlighting
[00:17:57.729]
off and it will just read the article for me.
[00:18:01.838]
I can choose to have the whole sentence highlighted
[00:18:04.009]
if I want to
[00:18:05.328]
and then I can choose different colors for things. So
[00:18:07.368]
if I need to change this up at all, I'll be able
[00:18:09.509]
to do that.
[00:18:11.759]
I can also increase and decrease the
[00:18:13.799]
font size, I needed to do that right here.
[00:18:16.459]
And I also have some different
[00:18:19.250]
options here with the font so I can choose
[00:18:21.400]
the different fonts available. We do have a dyslexia
[00:18:23.890]
font available. So if you have students
[00:18:26.039]
who struggle with reading, who need that additional support,
[00:18:28.750]
we do have that available. It again
[00:18:30.910]
is under the listen tool
[00:18:33.309]
and then you'll see if we can change the text facing here
[00:18:35.500]
as well. And
[00:18:39.410]
this kind of
[00:18:41.848]
accessibility feature
[00:18:43.868]
will actually follow along throughout the session.
[00:18:46.108]
So if your users do decide that they
[00:18:48.209]
want to change um the color,
[00:18:50.358]
maybe they want to change the font, it
[00:18:52.588]
will follow along with them.
[00:18:59.469]
And you'll see now on this left hand side,
[00:19:02.000]
the table of contents is still available.
[00:19:04.449]
So I can easily click into the next
[00:19:06.699]
manual if I want to take a look at that or just
[00:19:08.838]
move forward in my learning
[00:19:12.259]
and this is just our repair section. So we
[00:19:14.380]
also have a maintenance section. So if students
[00:19:16.598]
are maybe not so much focused on fixing car,
[00:19:18.608]
they're more focused on the maintenance schedules
[00:19:21.088]
available within cars. They can click
[00:19:23.189]
over to maintenance here and it's going to get a little
[00:19:25.368]
bit more specific. So remember we
[00:19:27.640]
have the 2011, Chevy Impala
[00:19:29.890]
selected, we did that at the beginning of our
[00:19:32.049]
session today.
[00:19:33.809]
Now that I want to take a look at the maintenance
[00:19:35.900]
for that, I can narrow down all
[00:19:38.459]
the way sub model drive type, all
[00:19:40.539]
that good stuff. There is a full chart listed
[00:19:42.838]
here. So this is all of the different
[00:19:44.848]
models of Impala. I can click into
[00:19:46.910]
any of these or I can choose
[00:19:49.000]
my configuration here.
[00:19:51.750]
You see sometimes when I click into it, these are just standard,
[00:19:54.969]
I can choose my operating conditions. So students
[00:19:57.229]
will be able to choose, you know, if they're working on
[00:19:59.279]
a car that's been through it.
[00:20:01.439]
let's say they are.
[00:20:04.818]
So now they can scroll down. You'll see, they can enter their
[00:20:06.910]
mileage. It just defaults to 25,000.
[00:20:09.380]
But if they have that, they can take
[00:20:11.410]
a look at that.
[00:20:13.910]
Now, they're going to see what they need to do. So they'll need
[00:20:15.920]
to inspect drive belts.
[00:20:18.140]
They need to change the air filter and
[00:20:20.328]
inspect a few other things. And
[00:20:22.500]
then again, another air filter needs to be replaced
[00:20:25.068]
at that 25,000 mileage.
[00:20:28.328]
You see, they can just jump to the next step
[00:20:30.779]
as well. So once they hit 50,000,
[00:20:34.479]
they'll see what needs to be done. Again, they
[00:20:36.509]
can hit 75,000
[00:20:38.259]
and they'll see exactly what they should be doing
[00:20:40.328]
when they're working on a car and these
[00:20:42.390]
charts can actually be printed out for
[00:20:44.430]
students to take with them. So if they want to make sure
[00:20:46.598]
they know what they're doing wherever
[00:20:49.108]
they are, they'll be able to use this print button
[00:20:51.269]
here or again, they can view
[00:20:53.430]
of the full charts
[00:20:54.858]
and see that here.
[00:21:04.160]
Now, that's what I have for you guys today. This
[00:21:06.250]
is a nice short session just going over
[00:21:08.269]
some of those key features for your students.
[00:21:10.989]
Do we have any questions about how we can find
[00:21:13.269]
content? how it's organized?
[00:21:15.828]
How do you utilize it? Anything at all?
[00:21:21.739]
Ok. Well, I don't see any. So let me
[00:21:23.890]
jump back here. I wanna give you some wrap up information.
[00:21:26.719]
Again, my name is Amber Winters. So if you
[00:21:28.779]
have questions about this session today,
[00:21:30.890]
feel free to reach out. It's just
[00:21:33.239]
[email protected]
[00:21:34.799]
If you want to talk a little more specifically
[00:21:36.818]
about how you can get this to your users,
[00:21:39.229]
you can reach out to your customer success manager
[00:21:41.489]
and they can give you some more tips, some more
[00:21:43.618]
best practices that they've seen other libraries
[00:21:45.818]
succeed with.
[00:21:46.890]
If you don't know who your customer success manager is,
[00:21:49.160]
you can just send an email to
[00:21:51.299]
[email protected] And
[00:21:54.029]
they will will forward you to the correct
[00:21:56.170]
individual and you can work with them
[00:21:58.469]
if you don't have Chilton library, but you want it,
[00:22:00.719]
you can reach out to your sales consultant. If you don't
[00:22:02.759]
know who that is, just go to support.gale.com/repfinder
[00:22:07.150]
and we'll send you to the correct individual.
[00:22:09.689]
If you want any follow up supplemental
[00:22:12.130]
materials, any additional training supports.
[00:22:14.868]
Um If you want or looking for a flyer,
[00:22:17.660]
a
[00:22:18.759]
brochure, anything you can think of,
[00:22:21.219]
you can go to our support site support.gale.com
[00:22:23.890]
and you'll get a different additional information about
[00:22:26.000]
Chilton library.
[00:22:27.489]
And of course, if you have any tech questions,
[00:22:29.680]
I always want to provide you with tech support number
[00:22:31.880]
or tech support information,
[00:22:33.890]
you can just reach out to them at
[00:22:36.068]
[email protected]
[00:22:38.318]
they'll be able to answer any sort of tech questions
[00:22:40.358]
you have.
[00:22:42.269]
Now again, I haven't seen any more questions
[00:22:44.608]
come up, so I'm going to go ahead and end
[00:22:46.650]
our session just a little bit early. You guys get a little
[00:22:48.719]
bit of time back in your day. I do appreciate
[00:22:51.039]
you all for being here with me today though and hopefully
[00:22:53.420]
we will see you in future sessions. Bye
[00:22:55.709]
bye now.
OK. Hello and welcome everyone
[00:00:07.118]
today. We're going to talk about how you can utilize
[00:00:09.608]
Gale's ChilltonLibrary to support auto
[00:00:12.009]
tech students.
[00:00:13.259]
My name is Amber Winters and I am a
[00:00:15.278]
senior training consultant here with
[00:00:17.289]
Gale
[00:00:18.929]
our agenda today. First, we're just going to go
[00:00:21.048]
over a few of the key features within
[00:00:23.079]
Chilton Library that are going to be beneficial
[00:00:25.298]
specifically for students.
[00:00:27.399]
Then we're going to walk through the resource, we'll spend
[00:00:29.649]
the majority of the time there. So you can see the
[00:00:31.690]
different workflows your students are going to be experiencing.
[00:00:34.759]
and kind of get a feeling of how
[00:00:36.868]
you should direct them as you're demoing this
[00:00:38.899]
to your users.
[00:00:40.368]
And then at the very end of the session, I do have
[00:00:42.478]
some support information as well as some wrap
[00:00:44.709]
up contact info.
[00:00:46.658]
So we'll have that at the very end for you.
[00:00:48.639]
And again, I just want to remind everyone if you have questions
[00:00:51.109]
as we move along, feel free to put them into
[00:00:53.118]
the Q and A box. It's already open for you
[00:00:55.298]
and I should be able to answer them as we move forward
[00:00:57.789]
if that Q and A box does get a little bit
[00:01:00.090]
inundated. Then questions will wait until
[00:01:02.228]
the end of the session, but just know your questions
[00:01:04.650]
will be answered as long as they're in that Q and A box.
[00:01:09.109]
So let's go ahead and get started here talking about
[00:01:11.180]
some of the bits of content and different
[00:01:13.359]
features that are going to be important specifically
[00:01:15.799]
for your students, whether you're joining
[00:01:18.400]
me from A K 12 library learning community
[00:01:21.109]
or you're here with the public library, this
[00:01:23.439]
is going to be really beneficial for any students
[00:01:25.709]
you're working with. The first is going to be Chilton's
[00:01:27.900]
video library
[00:01:30.129]
and all of our videos are short. They, they're usually
[00:01:32.329]
under a minute. I've seen some that are maybe slightly
[00:01:34.698]
over a minute, but they're really
[00:01:37.219]
honed and really pared down. So they're really hitting
[00:01:39.448]
just one specific bit of information,
[00:01:41.668]
you know, maybe it's installing brakes or
[00:01:44.260]
um
[00:01:45.180]
changing oil, it's going to be something very,
[00:01:47.510]
very small and specific
[00:01:49.769]
to kind of get your students learning,
[00:01:51.909]
get them interested in it.
[00:01:53.519]
And this is actually found directly on the home page.
[00:01:55.909]
So students won't have to click through anything if they
[00:01:57.948]
don't want to, they won't need to, you know, run a search
[00:02:00.219]
or anything like that.
[00:02:01.319]
They can click directly into the video library
[00:02:03.579]
right off the home page.
[00:02:06.000]
And these excuse me, these videos
[00:02:08.219]
are really helpful for those students
[00:02:10.649]
who are just starting to learn auto
[00:02:12.960]
tech who maybe aren't even working on cars
[00:02:14.969]
yet. This is just going to give them a kind
[00:02:17.088]
of a visual look at what they're going to be doing. So
[00:02:19.368]
if they're really at that starting point,
[00:02:21.469]
they're not touched a car, they're just
[00:02:23.500]
getting themselves prepared. This may be
[00:02:25.599]
a good place to send them. This is also great
[00:02:27.909]
as a review. So if they are starting
[00:02:30.099]
to work with cars and you know, they've got
[00:02:32.099]
an assessment coming up to make sure they understand
[00:02:34.229]
how to change brakes.
[00:02:36.038]
They can go back, take a look at a video quickly
[00:02:38.129]
for a nice short review
[00:02:40.159]
and then go ahead and take that quiz.
[00:02:44.050]
Moving forward from there. Our diagnostic
[00:02:46.618]
and repair manuals are going to be really helpful
[00:02:48.710]
when they do actually start engaging with
[00:02:50.729]
cars and actually get that hands on
[00:02:52.838]
experience, experience with their cars.
[00:02:55.649]
This is organized into a really simple
[00:02:57.778]
drop down table of contents, which is really
[00:02:59.860]
going to guide your students as they're looking for
[00:03:02.008]
information.
[00:03:03.210]
So we've gotten this all nice and neat and
[00:03:05.278]
organized for them and we're providing step
[00:03:07.500]
by step instructions, of course, which is what you would
[00:03:09.558]
expect from Children li Children library.
[00:03:12.149]
But we also have a huge
[00:03:14.409]
collection of diagrams that are included
[00:03:16.689]
in a lot of these repair manuals that
[00:03:18.860]
are really going to help your visual
[00:03:20.949]
learners as they walk through whatever they're
[00:03:23.020]
doing, fixing the engine working on the transmission,
[00:03:26.020]
Each of these diagrams can
[00:03:28.149]
be in the large. So they can really get a feel
[00:03:30.360]
of what they're looking at. They'll see, not
[00:03:32.379]
only the piece of the car that they're looking
[00:03:34.629]
at, but they'll also see all of the attachments,
[00:03:36.899]
the screws, the bolts, they'll see
[00:03:39.050]
where all of that goes and how it can all be taken
[00:03:41.409]
apart and put back together successfully.
[00:03:44.649]
In addition, we also have electrical diagrams.
[00:03:47.008]
So if you have students who are kind of getting
[00:03:49.110]
to that really advanced level where they're working on
[00:03:51.349]
engine electronics, they'll find
[00:03:53.528]
diagrams for that within Chilton Library as well.
[00:03:55.788]
So these diagnostic and repair manuals
[00:03:58.099]
are really kind of developed for the
[00:04:00.149]
very, very early beginners all the way
[00:04:02.288]
to the more the more advanced users who
[00:04:04.379]
are ready to maybe even, you know, graduate from
[00:04:06.439]
auto tech school and they're ready to get into their,
[00:04:09.038]
their automotive careers.
[00:04:12.330]
And finally, one third feature that's
[00:04:14.960]
really important specifically for students
[00:04:17.278]
is going to be our A se test
[00:04:19.298]
prep and we have quizzes for 13
[00:04:21.750]
of the exam ar areas
[00:04:23.980]
and they are multiple choice and graded automatically.
[00:04:26.480]
So students will be able to just click through
[00:04:28.639]
answer all of their questions. Once
[00:04:30.660]
they submit them, they'll get this nice automatic
[00:04:33.160]
view of their results. It's going to show them
[00:04:35.369]
if they got it correct. They'll see that if
[00:04:37.459]
they got it incorrect, they'll see that and they'll see
[00:04:39.569]
the correct answer as well.
[00:04:42.660]
And students have unlimited attempts
[00:04:44.750]
with these quizzes. So, a
[00:04:46.389]
nice suggestion that I have when I'm showing
[00:04:48.720]
this to students is if they're preparing to
[00:04:50.769]
take that A S A test prep or a test,
[00:04:53.369]
whatever test it is run through
[00:04:55.410]
the prep, submit it. See what you got
[00:04:57.488]
wrong from that point, go back
[00:04:59.689]
to Chilton, figure out why you got it wrong
[00:05:01.988]
and figure out how you can get to the right answer
[00:05:04.048]
next time
[00:05:05.108]
and then they can come back and take it again to see
[00:05:07.220]
if they've really kind of gained that knowledge
[00:05:09.278]
that they seem to be lacking before.
[00:05:12.350]
So these are the three kind of features
[00:05:14.649]
of Chilton library that we're really going to focus
[00:05:16.778]
on today because these are the ones that are
[00:05:19.988]
designed specifically to help students.
[00:05:24.699]
And I do want to mention that Chilton
[00:05:27.220]
library is completely mobile responsive.
[00:05:29.750]
So if your students are taking this with
[00:05:31.889]
them into the shop and they're going to be actively
[00:05:34.220]
working on their car while they're looking at a manual
[00:05:36.730]
or a video within Chilton. Not only
[00:05:38.928]
can they do that and a laptop, they can also
[00:05:41.220]
pull it up on their tablet if they want to do it
[00:05:43.259]
that way and they can also pull it up on their phone.
[00:05:45.600]
So this is a really nice way to have the content
[00:05:47.829]
directly there with them as well. They don't need to worry
[00:05:49.988]
about, you know, having it pulled up on
[00:05:52.108]
the computer and then running back to their car and
[00:05:54.129]
when they have a question, running back to their computer,
[00:05:56.338]
they can set up their laptop or their
[00:05:58.428]
phone right next to where they're working right in their
[00:06:00.540]
workspace and they'll have the same
[00:06:02.649]
full experience of Chilton Library
[00:06:04.858]
right there available for them. It is again,
[00:06:07.000]
fully mobile responsive. So they'll have
[00:06:09.048]
all of the same features that they would have if they
[00:06:11.119]
were using just a standard laptop
[00:06:13.488]
computer.
[00:06:17.910]
So let's go ahead and take a look. I don't wanna spend too much
[00:06:20.059]
more time just talking at you. I want us to all
[00:06:22.139]
take a look here. But do I have any questions
[00:06:24.988]
before? I just kind of jump right over here?
[00:06:30.759]
Ok. I
[00:06:31.559]
don't see any. So let's go ahead and jump in
[00:06:33.670]
here. So this is the home page of Chilton
[00:06:35.889]
Library. Hopefully you've all seen it
[00:06:38.178]
a little bit. We're not going to go all the way
[00:06:40.319]
through it today because we just want to look at those
[00:06:42.910]
kind of student focused materials
[00:06:45.350]
and sections.
[00:06:46.660]
So before I put in a vehicle, I'm not going to
[00:06:48.699]
focus on that just yet. I wanna show you
[00:06:50.738]
at the very top in this toolbar here,
[00:06:53.189]
your students can access both
[00:06:55.220]
that video library that I mentioned mentioned
[00:06:57.608]
and the A se test prep quizzes
[00:07:00.189]
without even entering a vehicle.
[00:07:02.608]
So if they don't have something in mind, you know, again,
[00:07:04.920]
they don't have a car they're working on just yet. They're just
[00:07:06.980]
getting started. They can just click directly
[00:07:09.250]
into the video library, let's say,
[00:07:12.160]
and it pulls them forward and it does
[00:07:14.319]
start off on the most popular videos. So
[00:07:16.329]
these are the ones that are clicked on and
[00:07:18.439]
utilized most within Chilton Library.
[00:07:21.079]
But on this left hand side, we also
[00:07:23.139]
include a nice table of contents here
[00:07:25.439]
so they can start to narrow it down. Maybe they're interested
[00:07:27.649]
in wiring. Let's say they can drop that down,
[00:07:29.829]
maybe electrical repairs.
[00:07:32.278]
And you see, this has a few automatic
[00:07:35.230]
automa.
[00:07:36.769]
Excuse me today, I've got some word salad going
[00:07:38.949]
on, animated tech
[00:07:41.509]
tips that are going to show them
[00:07:44.170]
what they're going to go through. So they get
[00:07:46.238]
a little text with it.
[00:07:47.738]
They can kind of scroll through
[00:07:53.678]
and then they can just jump back either using this
[00:07:55.889]
breadcrumb trail of top here or using anything
[00:07:58.230]
on this left hand side and they can click
[00:08:00.420]
into anything else. They want to take a look at if they
[00:08:02.439]
do click into a full video as opposed
[00:08:04.588]
to that kind of animated
[00:08:06.670]
tech tip. Let me pull this up here.
[00:08:09.629]
It does pull it forward with captions
[00:08:11.980]
automatically enabled. They can turn
[00:08:14.048]
those off by hitting the more options here. So
[00:08:16.149]
if they prefer to have them off, they can certainly do that,
[00:08:19.040]
they can change the playback speed. So if they need
[00:08:21.230]
it just a little bit slower to understand
[00:08:23.238]
they can do that
[00:08:24.660]
and they can also download this, which is like on a really
[00:08:26.910]
nice feature. Of course, this is mobile responsive.
[00:08:29.519]
So your students can access these videos
[00:08:31.778]
even if they're on their phone. But if they want to take
[00:08:34.038]
it completely offline with them, you know, they're not
[00:08:36.158]
even going to have access to a phone. Let's say
[00:08:38.509]
they're not gonna have access to any sort of internet.
[00:08:40.750]
They can download this video, save it to the
[00:08:42.759]
desktop or whatever they need to save it to
[00:08:45.440]
and watch it whenever they need to.
[00:08:48.668]
And you'll see we do prompt them
[00:08:50.700]
to look at some similar videos here on this
[00:08:52.808]
right hand side as well. So again, I clicked
[00:08:54.940]
into wiring. So you'll see a lot of these are
[00:08:56.960]
related to electricity and wiring
[00:08:59.298]
of a car here.
[00:09:02.979]
So again, without even searching, your students
[00:09:04.989]
are finding this content, if they have
[00:09:07.099]
something really specific in mind, we do
[00:09:09.178]
have a search here listed at
[00:09:11.259]
the very top of the table of contents
[00:09:13.519]
so they can search through all of these videos
[00:09:15.658]
here. The search bar does only search
[00:09:17.908]
the videos so they're not going to pull up
[00:09:20.070]
any of the manuals or anything like that. They're just
[00:09:22.200]
going to get a search through the videos
[00:09:24.349]
that we have available here.
[00:09:28.599]
And now next to this video library is
[00:09:30.609]
where we're going to find that test prep
[00:09:32.788]
section here. So again, they don't need to enter
[00:09:34.889]
in car information or anything like that.
[00:09:37.109]
They can just click directly to the test prep
[00:09:39.149]
quizzes.
[00:09:43.019]
Now, we've got them all listed out here. So you'll see
[00:09:45.369]
what the exam title is. We tell them the number
[00:09:47.519]
of questions ahead of time. And then these
[00:09:49.558]
are again, all multiple choice that are automatically
[00:09:51.889]
graded. Let's click into the
[00:09:53.918]
shortest one here.
[00:09:56.129]
The heating and cooling one is only eight questions.
[00:09:58.418]
So we'll click into the shortest one.
[00:10:00.279]
So once they come in, they'll be able to
[00:10:02.320]
answer all of their questions. Let
[00:10:04.349]
me run through and answer them quickly so
[00:10:06.649]
we can see what the results look like here.
[00:10:10.219]
We'll see if I get any right. So they can
[00:10:12.259]
go through and answer all of those
[00:10:17.320]
looks like. So it's asking if I want
[00:10:19.440]
to submit.
[00:10:20.479]
I didn't, I attempted everything.
[00:10:22.859]
So you see a zero here. So it's not prompting me to
[00:10:24.899]
answer any questions that I didn't answer. So
[00:10:27.219]
just go ahead and hit confirm.
[00:10:31.149]
Yeah. And now we're going to see my results.
[00:10:33.408]
So what's great is I can actually hover over these
[00:10:35.558]
different pieces on this, these
[00:10:37.750]
little charts here. So I'll be able to
[00:10:39.808]
see. I've got one answer correct and I have
[00:10:42.070]
seven wrong if I didn't attempt
[00:10:44.259]
any. Maybe I skipped some because I just
[00:10:46.658]
honestly had no idea and I didn't want to even
[00:10:48.710]
guess. I'll have some listed
[00:10:51.070]
here under not attempted. I will
[00:10:53.239]
say if you're having your students run through these,
[00:10:55.538]
I recommend having them answer even if they
[00:10:57.658]
don't know the answer at all. Just
[00:10:59.700]
have them guess. Because if they don't
[00:11:01.779]
attempt a question, it's not going to tell them
[00:11:03.899]
the correct answer.
[00:11:05.428]
The only way they'll see the correct answer is
[00:11:07.489]
if they actually get it wrong.
[00:11:11.239]
But you'll see here, we have our question. It's
[00:11:13.349]
going to tell us, what we
[00:11:15.408]
answered and then it will tell us the correct answer
[00:11:17.460]
here. If we got the correct answer, then
[00:11:19.869]
it's not going to show us anything here, but
[00:11:22.058]
it'll run through and you'll be able to see all of your
[00:11:24.219]
answers right here.
[00:11:27.440]
And once I'm done with this, I can close
[00:11:29.469]
it out
[00:11:30.889]
and I'm right back to my main
[00:11:33.109]
test prep section here
[00:11:36.320]
and these don't change these questions do stay
[00:11:38.590]
the same. So again, we recommend them
[00:11:40.859]
running through it once, figuring out
[00:11:43.000]
what they got wrong,
[00:11:44.349]
going back to the main body of
[00:11:46.418]
Chilton and the figuring out what
[00:11:48.489]
the correct answer is and why the correct answer
[00:11:50.750]
is what it is.
[00:11:55.649]
Now, I'm going to go ahead and jump back to the home
[00:11:57.808]
page here because we're going to take a look at the repair
[00:12:00.200]
manuals that are available for your users.
[00:12:02.599]
So I'm going to click on the Chilton Library button
[00:12:05.009]
or logo and the banner
[00:12:07.259]
up here now
[00:12:10.489]
to take a look at all of our um
[00:12:12.969]
our manuals and things like that. We do need to enter
[00:12:15.298]
a vehicle.
[00:12:16.779]
If your students don't have a specific vehicle,
[00:12:18.879]
that's fine. They can just
[00:12:20.739]
enter something similar or really enter anything.
[00:12:23.000]
A lot of materials are
[00:12:25.009]
going to be very, very similar, you know, changing
[00:12:27.048]
the oil in cars is
[00:12:29.820]
pretty similar no matter what type of car that
[00:12:31.830]
you're looking at. So if they don't have a specific
[00:12:33.840]
car in mind, they can just pop in
[00:12:36.019]
any year make and model to
[00:12:38.029]
still see content.
[00:12:39.418]
I am actually gonna go back a little
[00:12:41.570]
bit just if anyone's planning on
[00:12:43.609]
showing this to students, I always recommend
[00:12:45.808]
going back a few years to select
[00:12:47.928]
your vehicle just because car
[00:12:50.210]
manufacturers tend to release
[00:12:52.450]
more and more content as the car has been
[00:12:54.609]
out. You know, of course, they're going to have
[00:12:56.690]
more service recalls,
[00:12:58.928]
more bulletins and things like that. So
[00:13:01.080]
generally speaking, an older car is going
[00:13:03.139]
to have more published content more
[00:13:05.269]
for your students to see. So I'm gonna
[00:13:07.440]
go back to 2011 here
[00:13:09.639]
and I will click into Chevy
[00:13:12.899]
and you see, they can really narrow it down to whatever
[00:13:15.048]
they want. Let's do Impala,
[00:13:18.219]
ok. And then I'll just hit select
[00:13:20.700]
and now you'll see when I do that up top here, it's
[00:13:22.779]
showing me what my current vehicle is. So this is what
[00:13:24.908]
I just chose and I can change this.
[00:13:27.269]
So this is helpful, maybe if your students
[00:13:29.548]
are working on two different cars, you know, they work on
[00:13:31.558]
the brakes in one,
[00:13:33.080]
then they need to move over to work on the transmission
[00:13:35.609]
and another they can really easily
[00:13:37.690]
toggle back and forth between vehicles by hitting
[00:13:39.960]
the change vehicle button on top here.
[00:13:42.580]
But we'll stay in our in Pat today.
[00:13:45.340]
So just like the video library, you'll see,
[00:13:47.369]
we have our table of contents listed here on this
[00:13:49.469]
left hand side. And specifically
[00:13:51.570]
when we're talking about our repair manuals, this
[00:13:53.710]
is going to come in really handy because as
[00:13:55.798]
you would expect, there's a lot,
[00:13:58.038]
there's a lot going on in cars. So
[00:14:00.250]
again, we have our search bar if they have
[00:14:02.440]
something specific in mind, but
[00:14:04.500]
I actually prefer just kind of clicking and navigating
[00:14:07.009]
all the way down.
[00:14:08.849]
So if we take a look here, let's look at our engine
[00:14:11.229]
so we can drop that engine and we start to
[00:14:13.259]
get a little bit further down here. So maybe
[00:14:15.599]
engine electrical, we've
[00:14:17.678]
got another step here. Let's say we want
[00:14:19.808]
to remove it maybe,
[00:14:22.739]
and we'll go to, let's go to battery, we want to
[00:14:24.759]
replace our battery here. So your students kind
[00:14:26.769]
of pointed and clicked all the way down to where they want
[00:14:28.979]
to be. Once
[00:14:31.450]
on this page you'll see here. This is a pretty
[00:14:33.678]
detailed
[00:14:35.590]
diagram here showing the engine. I'm
[00:14:37.808]
being 100% honest. I don't know exactly what
[00:14:40.029]
the engine is showing. I know that's the battery,
[00:14:42.129]
but that's about it.
[00:14:43.590]
But they'll have that nice detailed
[00:14:45.808]
block. You'll see they can click to enlarge this
[00:14:48.019]
and they'll make it full screen so they can get a better visual
[00:14:50.330]
here. But
[00:14:52.750]
they'll have quite a few of those as they start to scroll down
[00:14:54.928]
and as I move forward from there,
[00:14:57.250]
you'll see now it's giving me the step by step instructions
[00:14:59.989]
and you see some of these have these hyperlinks next
[00:15:02.308]
to them and
[00:15:04.369]
that's generally going to be hyperlinking
[00:15:06.849]
them to a different manual. So a different
[00:15:09.048]
part of Chilton library. So,
[00:15:11.288]
oops, I went back too far.
[00:15:15.158]
Give me a second here. Everyone, I jumped way
[00:15:17.389]
too far back.
[00:15:22.090]
Let's get back to our battery here.
[00:15:24.798]
There we go.
[00:15:26.019]
Sorry, my fault. I jumped all the way back
[00:15:28.158]
there. But those hyperlinks are
[00:15:30.219]
going to allow them to take a look at whatever
[00:15:32.389]
that specific step is. So,
[00:15:34.548]
of course, sometimes if you're working on an
[00:15:36.599]
engine, you'll need to remove part of the body
[00:15:38.869]
of the car to take, to get to that part of
[00:15:40.908]
the engine. So this is going to connect
[00:15:42.940]
them to those documents that are going to help them
[00:15:44.960]
do that step.
[00:15:47.538]
You see again, as I scroll down, we've got
[00:15:49.639]
a few more manuals here,
[00:15:52.580]
actually got a bunch here. We have
[00:15:54.590]
some cautions as well. I really like to point
[00:15:56.769]
this out for new students who are just starting
[00:15:58.889]
to work with cars because obviously
[00:16:01.048]
cars are dangerous. So we do still
[00:16:03.139]
provide cautions and caution information
[00:16:05.149]
here to see if we can click into this and hear
[00:16:07.570]
the safety warnings about working
[00:16:09.690]
with fasteners,
[00:16:13.229]
think specifically about how you should tighten them.
[00:16:16.519]
But you see, we can scroll all the way to the bottom
[00:16:19.908]
and after they're done reading this article, they
[00:16:22.038]
will have changed the
[00:16:24.489]
engine's battery here.
[00:16:29.090]
Now, another key feature, let's go back
[00:16:31.288]
up here within Chilton library
[00:16:33.609]
is our listen tool that's going to be found
[00:16:35.629]
in all of our text. So it'll be in our,
[00:16:37.649]
our repair manuals,
[00:16:39.940]
our maintenance information, all that good stuff. It's
[00:16:42.080]
actually found here towards the top.
[00:16:44.668]
I'm just going to hit play and pause it because I'm not
[00:16:46.750]
sharing my
[00:16:48.330]
computer of sound. But when they hit
[00:16:50.399]
that listen button,
[00:16:52.580]
it's going to go through and read all of the text
[00:16:54.700]
for students. You'll see, it's already started here
[00:16:57.109]
and it's highlighting the word and the sentence
[00:16:59.788]
or this is kind of a statement on
[00:17:01.859]
a sentence that it's reading through.
[00:17:04.130]
So it's going to read through the full text for students.
[00:17:06.670]
It's not going to read any pictures.
[00:17:09.078]
Um, but it will read through
[00:17:11.150]
all of the steps. So like step 123
[00:17:13.699]
and four and five here, it's going to read through that for
[00:17:15.759]
them and
[00:17:19.098]
just make it a little bit easier for them to kind
[00:17:21.229]
of understand and they can actually
[00:17:23.368]
change the reading speed on this as well, just like
[00:17:25.459]
they could change the the speed
[00:17:27.779]
on the video library.
[00:17:30.259]
And they can also hit this little hamburger icon
[00:17:32.489]
down here under the listen button.
[00:17:34.699]
It's going to give them some additional help
[00:17:36.959]
so they can download the MP3 again.
[00:17:39.029]
If they just want to take this completely offline,
[00:17:41.689]
they can do that here by downloading the MP3
[00:17:45.809]
and we can click into the settings here
[00:17:48.779]
and this gives us some additional options. So if
[00:17:50.910]
we want to change how this is being read
[00:17:53.068]
to me, maybe I don't want any highlighting.
[00:17:55.500]
I think it's distracting. We can turn highlighting
[00:17:57.729]
off and it will just read the article for me.
[00:18:01.838]
I can choose to have the whole sentence highlighted
[00:18:04.009]
if I want to
[00:18:05.328]
and then I can choose different colors for things. So
[00:18:07.368]
if I need to change this up at all, I'll be able
[00:18:09.509]
to do that.
[00:18:11.759]
I can also increase and decrease the
[00:18:13.799]
font size, I needed to do that right here.
[00:18:16.459]
And I also have some different
[00:18:19.250]
options here with the font so I can choose
[00:18:21.400]
the different fonts available. We do have a dyslexia
[00:18:23.890]
font available. So if you have students
[00:18:26.039]
who struggle with reading, who need that additional support,
[00:18:28.750]
we do have that available. It again
[00:18:30.910]
is under the listen tool
[00:18:33.309]
and then you'll see if we can change the text facing here
[00:18:35.500]
as well. And
[00:18:39.410]
this kind of
[00:18:41.848]
accessibility feature
[00:18:43.868]
will actually follow along throughout the session.
[00:18:46.108]
So if your users do decide that they
[00:18:48.209]
want to change um the color,
[00:18:50.358]
maybe they want to change the font, it
[00:18:52.588]
will follow along with them.
[00:18:59.469]
And you'll see now on this left hand side,
[00:19:02.000]
the table of contents is still available.
[00:19:04.449]
So I can easily click into the next
[00:19:06.699]
manual if I want to take a look at that or just
[00:19:08.838]
move forward in my learning
[00:19:12.259]
and this is just our repair section. So we
[00:19:14.380]
also have a maintenance section. So if students
[00:19:16.598]
are maybe not so much focused on fixing car,
[00:19:18.608]
they're more focused on the maintenance schedules
[00:19:21.088]
available within cars. They can click
[00:19:23.189]
over to maintenance here and it's going to get a little
[00:19:25.368]
bit more specific. So remember we
[00:19:27.640]
have the 2011, Chevy Impala
[00:19:29.890]
selected, we did that at the beginning of our
[00:19:32.049]
session today.
[00:19:33.809]
Now that I want to take a look at the maintenance
[00:19:35.900]
for that, I can narrow down all
[00:19:38.459]
the way sub model drive type, all
[00:19:40.539]
that good stuff. There is a full chart listed
[00:19:42.838]
here. So this is all of the different
[00:19:44.848]
models of Impala. I can click into
[00:19:46.910]
any of these or I can choose
[00:19:49.000]
my configuration here.
[00:19:51.750]
You see sometimes when I click into it, these are just standard,
[00:19:54.969]
I can choose my operating conditions. So students
[00:19:57.229]
will be able to choose, you know, if they're working on
[00:19:59.279]
a car that's been through it.
[00:20:01.439]
let's say they are.
[00:20:04.818]
So now they can scroll down. You'll see, they can enter their
[00:20:06.910]
mileage. It just defaults to 25,000.
[00:20:09.380]
But if they have that, they can take
[00:20:11.410]
a look at that.
[00:20:13.910]
Now, they're going to see what they need to do. So they'll need
[00:20:15.920]
to inspect drive belts.
[00:20:18.140]
They need to change the air filter and
[00:20:20.328]
inspect a few other things. And
[00:20:22.500]
then again, another air filter needs to be replaced
[00:20:25.068]
at that 25,000 mileage.
[00:20:28.328]
You see, they can just jump to the next step
[00:20:30.779]
as well. So once they hit 50,000,
[00:20:34.479]
they'll see what needs to be done. Again, they
[00:20:36.509]
can hit 75,000
[00:20:38.259]
and they'll see exactly what they should be doing
[00:20:40.328]
when they're working on a car and these
[00:20:42.390]
charts can actually be printed out for
[00:20:44.430]
students to take with them. So if they want to make sure
[00:20:46.598]
they know what they're doing wherever
[00:20:49.108]
they are, they'll be able to use this print button
[00:20:51.269]
here or again, they can view
[00:20:53.430]
of the full charts
[00:20:54.858]
and see that here.
[00:21:04.160]
Now, that's what I have for you guys today. This
[00:21:06.250]
is a nice short session just going over
[00:21:08.269]
some of those key features for your students.
[00:21:10.989]
Do we have any questions about how we can find
[00:21:13.269]
content? how it's organized?
[00:21:15.828]
How do you utilize it? Anything at all?
[00:21:21.739]
Ok. Well, I don't see any. So let me
[00:21:23.890]
jump back here. I wanna give you some wrap up information.
[00:21:26.719]
Again, my name is Amber Winters. So if you
[00:21:28.779]
have questions about this session today,
[00:21:30.890]
feel free to reach out. It's just
[00:21:33.239]
[email protected]
[00:21:34.799]
If you want to talk a little more specifically
[00:21:36.818]
about how you can get this to your users,
[00:21:39.229]
you can reach out to your customer success manager
[00:21:41.489]
and they can give you some more tips, some more
[00:21:43.618]
best practices that they've seen other libraries
[00:21:45.818]
succeed with.
[00:21:46.890]
If you don't know who your customer success manager is,
[00:21:49.160]
you can just send an email to
[00:21:51.299]
[email protected] And
[00:21:54.029]
they will will forward you to the correct
[00:21:56.170]
individual and you can work with them
[00:21:58.469]
if you don't have Chilton library, but you want it,
[00:22:00.719]
you can reach out to your sales consultant. If you don't
[00:22:02.759]
know who that is, just go to support.gale.com/repfinder
[00:22:07.150]
and we'll send you to the correct individual.
[00:22:09.689]
If you want any follow up supplemental
[00:22:12.130]
materials, any additional training supports.
[00:22:14.868]
Um If you want or looking for a flyer,
[00:22:17.660]
a
[00:22:18.759]
brochure, anything you can think of,
[00:22:21.219]
you can go to our support site support.gale.com
[00:22:23.890]
and you'll get a different additional information about
[00:22:26.000]
Chilton library.
[00:22:27.489]
And of course, if you have any tech questions,
[00:22:29.680]
I always want to provide you with tech support number
[00:22:31.880]
or tech support information,
[00:22:33.890]
you can just reach out to them at
[00:22:36.068]
[email protected]
[00:22:38.318]
they'll be able to answer any sort of tech questions
[00:22:40.358]
you have.
[00:22:42.269]
Now again, I haven't seen any more questions
[00:22:44.608]
come up, so I'm going to go ahead and end
[00:22:46.650]
our session just a little bit early. You guys get a little
[00:22:48.719]
bit of time back in your day. I do appreciate
[00:22:51.039]
you all for being here with me today though and hopefully
[00:22:53.420]
we will see you in future sessions. Bye
[00:22:55.709]
bye now.
