[00:00:04.000]
Welcome to your Gale training for Utah's Online School Library. Today's session is mastering, vehicle, repair, and maintenance. Exploring Chilton Library. My name is Tammi Burke. I am a senior trainer at Gale, and I thank you for taking the time out of your day to view this webinar on Chilton Library. I wanna talk to you about what children library is, and how it can be utilized.

[00:00:29.000]
In your schools.

[00:00:30.000]
So we're going to get a full walkthrough of the resource. But I'll also give you a lot of information in the Powerpoint slides, so that you understand what it is. Which group of students this would work with think it might be self explanatory. But we'll talk through it a little bit more, and you can see how it fits into your schools.

[00:00:53.000]
1st we're going to start with getting to know Gale's Chilton library, and then we're going to walk through the resource, and then I will share with you where you can go for any questions that you have and where to find additional support. Materials.

[00:01:09.000]
1st access. If you are accessing the Utah's Online school library, the link is up here at the top.

[00:01:16.000]
You can go directly into high school.

[00:01:19.000]
And from high school you will see the Gale reference collection for high school. Once you select that icon.

[00:01:28.000]
Then you will find Chilton Library.

[00:01:32.000]
And.

[00:01:34.000]
Right here with this car icon. So right at the top library is there, you just click into it, and it'll take you into the resource. Now, if you are accessing from home.

[00:01:46.000]
Or your students are accessing from home. Then they will need their library information.

[00:01:51.000]
So they'll need to sign in with that information.

[00:01:56.000]
Let's talk a little bit about Chilton Library. There's a screenshot here of the homepage.

[00:02:02.000]
And what you're going to find within this resource. It's an on demand information. So these books? Just so you're aware we have over a hundred years these books have been trusted, so we do. The print books do exist.

[00:02:16.000]
They are green. They have very thin and are.

[00:02:23.000]
You know, if they're being used in the shop with mechanics, they get dirty quickly. So and nowadays we have students in mechanics and car enthusiasts that are accessing information from their cell phones. So.

[00:02:38.000]
Being that this is a digital resource. They're able and it's mobile, responsive. They're able to access all that great information rather from that book that has a very thin paper. They can access it from their cell phone through Utah's Online school library so trusted content for over a hundred years. It's very well known and loved by car enthusiasts and professionals alike.

[00:03:02.000]
It has the largest selection of vehicles. It contains detailed information on most years, makes and models.

[00:03:09.000]
And varied content. So you're going to find service and repair information. There's a video library, there's labor estimating troubleshooting guides, images, and diagrams. And we also have the as test prep. So if you have students that are looking to get that certification, we have the test prep available. The quizzes are all available for them to.

[00:03:34.000]
Practice before they go to take that certification test.

[00:03:40.000]
Let's talk about navigation and accessibility through this resource. So the.

[00:03:46.000]
The platform itself.

[00:03:47.000]
Has been redesigned, and it is streamlined for both searching and browsing, and it really ensures that users find what they need quickly.

[00:03:55.000]
The navigation buttons are now featured prominently within the body, on the resource.

[00:04:02.000]
And table of contents leaves us a clear breadcrumb trail. So you can see that here at the top that breadcrumb trail for users to go back to previous steps.

[00:04:10.000]
We also have a new listen feature, enhanced readability tools where, users can listen to the text being read aloud, they can change the font size, the color, this, the font type, the color and the size to easily customize their view, plus they can listen to the ta, the content being read aloud to them.

[00:04:32.000]
We added a vin decoder and search, which is really helpful, because a lot of times.

[00:04:39.000]
I know when I use this resource. I'm not exactly sure.

[00:04:43.000]
About the I can get the you know, the make and the model, but then it's the it's not the class, but it, you know, when it's. Is it an Essie? Is it an what model is it.

[00:04:58.000]
So that's the make model. And.

[00:05:01.000]
I I'll show you in a minute. But so that always is a struggle for me personally. So, being able to put in the vindicator, which will pull back all the information you need. You don't have to select.

[00:05:10.000]
What leader engine it is. It pulls all that information for you.

[00:05:14.000]
So it's available on the homepage. You can search by vin number.

[00:05:18.000]
And find the overview specifications, safety and recalls.

[00:05:22.000]
And then utilizing that vin ensures. You're finding most accurate content, like I said. What! When you put that information, and you don't have to wonder which.

[00:05:33.000]
Which vehicle it actually is from that dropdown list.

[00:05:37.000]
Video library is available.

[00:05:40.000]
And you're not. This is information that's coming from.

[00:05:44.000]
So again, like all of your gale resources content. So this video library is actual professionals, not somebody that's on Youtube that knows about cars or may.

[00:05:57.000]
Be. They may be professionals, but you might have people that are not professionals, and may be claiming to. So you're for sure, in this resource getting accurate information.

[00:06:08.000]
Video library is easy to access right from the homepage.

[00:06:12.000]
They're organized by topic. The videos from breaks to engine.

[00:06:18.000]
You'll find videos are both browsable and searchable. Using the table of contents.

[00:06:23.000]
So on the left hand side.

[00:06:27.000]
And then each video includes captions and can be downloaded for later use. And that's a really helpful tool that you can download it right onto your device.

[00:06:36.000]
The ASE. Test prep. The quizzes that are available. Not only can you take the quiz, but you can get the scores.

[00:06:43.000]
After you take your quiz, and you can see, as you can see here, question 3.

[00:06:48.000]
Your answer. That you answered was incorrect, but you see the correct answer there, so you can learn from your mistakes and continue to practice.

[00:06:59.000]
It's very user, friendly interface.

[00:07:01.000]
It clearly informs a user on the number and type of questions on the quiz.

[00:07:07.000]
The quiz results. As I just mentioned. You can see this helpful graph over here on the right hand side to better visualize.

[00:07:16.000]
And with that let's jump in and explore the resource.

[00:07:26.000]
Okay, so we're jumping into library.

[00:07:29.000]
You can see at the top some of the information I already mentioned, the Vin decoder, the video library, the ASE test prep quiz.

[00:07:37.000]
And then you have the ability to ask an expert.

[00:07:41.000]
It starts us on vehicle search so I can put in my vehicle information year make and model.

[00:07:47.000]
And then, once I select that.

[00:07:50.000]
I can find all of the information I need for it from.

[00:07:56.000]
Diagrams to maintenance.

[00:08:00.000]
To recall information.

[00:08:03.000]
So let me start with before we choose a vehicle. Let's look at this top section.

[00:08:08.000]
1st is the vin decoder.

[00:08:10.000]
Where you can enter in your vin number, and that we give you a little bit of an example of where it can be found.

[00:08:17.000]
I know mine's right by the windshield. There you can put in your.

[00:08:20.000]
Into your vin number vehicle identification number and click check vin, and it'll pull back your information for your vehicle.

[00:08:29.000]
Video library. You can see the most popular videos here on the home page. But if I were specifically looking for information on breaks, maybe I want to know how to bleed my breaks.

[00:08:41.000]
I can select one of these so bleeding.

[00:08:45.000]
My breaks. Get some information.

[00:08:47.000]
Leading the Abs system is fundamentally the same as bleeding and non-abs system.

[00:08:52.000]
So you can see I can make that whole screen the volume. It starts right away as soon as you open it up. As you notice the volume is full volume, so keep that in mind, and then close captioning is on. But I can turn that close captioning off. I can slow down the speed. I can also.

[00:09:09.000]
Download so I can download this right onto my device, which is a really helpful tool to have where you can download that.

[00:09:16.000]
That video.

[00:09:17.000]
So the video library again is right at the top of our.

[00:09:21.000]
Resource.

[00:09:22.000]
And I can very easily find the content, or I can search.

[00:09:27.000]
For any results. I'm looking for.

[00:09:33.000]
As e.

[00:09:35.000]
Quiz. It's always I always stumble on the ASE test, quiz.

[00:09:40.000]
Is. You can see we have multiple quizzes available. How many questions? A title, the quiz number of questions are all multiple choice.

[00:09:50.000]
I'm going to select this 1st one.

[00:09:53.000]
And just select a few answers. I'm always surprised when I get something correct.

[00:09:59.000]
Because I am just randomly selecting.

[00:10:04.000]
Answers.

[00:10:06.000]
But I want to show this to you as an example.

[00:10:11.000]
And then choosing that one a lot. Let's do this.

[00:10:16.000]
Last, one.

[00:10:18.000]
Okay.

[00:10:20.000]
And it it asked if you want to submit it. If there's any questions that you haven't attempted, it'll show you there, which I attempted. All of them.

[00:10:29.000]
And you could see.

[00:10:30.000]
I need to retake the quiz, so I got quite a few answers wrong. I was surprised when I get a couple right. I did, but you can see when it is incorrect, it does provide you with that correct answer. If your answer is correct, then you're all set.

[00:10:47.000]
You can see how many I got wrong, which quite a few, and how many I did get correct, which are only 3. And then, if there's any that are not attempted, they would be listed here too.

[00:10:59.000]
Right.

[00:11:00.000]
So a great way for students to test their knowledge and prepare for the test prep quizzes, or the the certification test. Through these test prep quizzes.

[00:11:12.000]
And then ask, an expert is the last area you can.

[00:11:16.000]
Enter in information, or you can.

[00:11:18.000]
Send your informations by giving us a phone call. There's a phone number there, and we can try to help you, or we will help you find that information.

[00:11:28.000]
Go back to Chilton Library.

[00:11:30.000]
Okay. So to go back to the homepage and any of our resources. If you click on the title or up in the bar near the title. It'll always take you back to the homepage.

[00:11:38.000]
You have some additional information about this resource, so kind of a bit of an overview here of what you're going to find within the resource always helpful. If you're introducing this to your teachers, especially those.

[00:11:49.000]
That are teaching your cte courses.

[00:11:52.000]
Or any vocational classes at your school.

[00:11:55.000]
Good for them to. And if you mentioned library, chances are they already know about it. They're familiar with it, but giving them digital access in a mobile, responsive resource is going to be an extremely helpful tool for them to use, to teach in the classes.

[00:12:10.000]
And use with their students.

[00:12:14.000]
So I'm gonna select a year. I'm actually gonna put in.

[00:12:17.000]
An older vehicle, 2010.

[00:12:25.000]
Board.

[00:12:30.000]
Escape.

[00:12:32.000]
Okay.

[00:12:33.000]
Year make model. Now, when I select it.

[00:12:38.000]
This is where I'll get asked for additional information. So if I'm looking at the breaks.

[00:12:44.000]
I'm looking specifically at. Maybe the break system.

[00:12:50.000]
If I need any additional specific information.

[00:12:53.000]
Like? Is it an.

[00:12:56.000]
Ford escape se, or is it an scl, or you know, our minivan. I know now for sure what that one is, because I've had to look it up a lot because I have a daughter now that drives it. And there's things college student and things break. So we are always looking to fix items with on within that vehicle. But you could see here I have information at the top description.

[00:13:20.000]
A break system as it goes down. I have some links.

[00:13:24.000]
So for more information you can refer, and it's hyperlinked out. So I can jump to different areas which is always helpful.

[00:13:31.000]
If I'm looking at.

[00:13:34.000]
Maybe I'm specifically looking at.

[00:13:40.000]
The break. This machining and I have.

[00:13:42.000]
Disk machining. I have that breadcrumb trail up here at the top. I can go back by using this back button, and I can print any of these documents off. Some of them will have.

[00:13:54.000]
As you can see, linked out to other information.

[00:13:57.000]
Some will have diagrams, too. I think. Our let me go into one.

[00:14:04.000]
Wiring diagrams.

[00:14:06.000]
So you can go directly to wiring diagrams. But some of these other.

[00:14:11.000]
Categories will have.

[00:14:13.000]
Additional diagrams where you can find content.

[00:14:16.000]
But let me show you.

[00:14:18.000]
What the I.

[00:14:19.000]
I'm just clicking.

[00:14:22.000]
So here we go. We have the oh, the air conditioning.

[00:14:26.000]
This is the clutch field, coil.

[00:14:28.000]
So here's an actual diagram I can click to enlarge. I can print this off.

[00:14:33.000]
Let's go to a document that has.

[00:14:39.000]
Okay, this one has a little bit more text. I want to share with you instead of the diagram, because I want to share with you some functionality of the resource. So we talked about being able to print.

[00:14:50.000]
Being able to listen to the text.

[00:14:52.000]
So let me show you what that looks like. So under.

[00:14:54.000]
Section 501, 35.

[00:14:56.000]
Let me pause this.

[00:14:58.000]
There's a couple of different features available.

[00:15:01.000]
Now it does, as you notice. As soon as I clicked, play for the listen.

[00:15:06.000]
It.

[00:15:07.000]
Opened up and started reading just like our video content. So I have a volume control. And this is the reading speed. And then I can always close this box out, and it'll read. It'll highlight the sentence in one color, and it'll the word that it's on, or in this case the number that it's on it would be. It's in another color. Now, under the more button we have some different features available.

[00:15:30.000]
Under the settings is where I can make some selections.

[00:15:34.000]
And what colors are being used for highlighting.

[00:15:38.000]
Or if I want to remove them altogether, I can.

[00:15:42.000]
Text, color.

[00:15:45.000]
The other features here at the top you have when you open the listen button like the speed and the volume.

[00:15:51.000]
These other features here. These settings are specifically for this text box. So if I'm increasing this.

[00:15:58.000]
Text size. It's for the text box itself.

[00:16:03.000]
I have additional features like turning off automatic scrolling. I have some keyboard shortcuts, and then, if I wanted to default settings, I have that option available.

[00:16:16.000]
I also have click and listen. Large text, mode, paste, masking all different types of features. Here.

[00:16:24.000]
Click and listen.

[00:16:26.000]
Bears.

[00:16:31.000]
So there's a little bit of a warning. It's going over right now.

[00:16:32.000]
Forward Motor Company does not approve or recognize body and structural repair tools, parts, or anything but new, genuine Ford equipment.

[00:16:36.000]
Pause, that.

[00:16:37.000]
Me turn that off.

[00:16:39.000]
In large text.

[00:16:42.000]
Mint.

[00:16:45.000]
Pulls out.

[00:16:46.000]
Ford cannot attest to the safety, quality, durability, or.

[00:16:47.000]
The text onto the page. So it gives you this nice text box at the bottom, where you can decrease or increase that font size. I can also play.

[00:16:56.000]
Or legality of non.

[00:16:57.000]
Or stop it from there too.

[00:17:01.000]
So that was in large text.

[00:17:06.000]
Text mode, pulls it out here.

[00:17:09.000]
We're into this text box.

[00:17:12.000]
I can make this larger, too, if I want to.

[00:17:18.000]
And then page mask is pretty cool, because it highlights.

[00:17:23.000]
And you can see.

[00:17:24.000]
I can increase that box size.

[00:17:27.000]
But that's page mask.

[00:17:31.000]
Oops might close that out.

[00:17:35.000]
And then I can also download this.

[00:17:37.000]
As an Mp. 3, so I can listen to it later, so that.

[00:17:41.000]
Read, speaker, and all the functionality of it, and you'll find this.

[00:17:45.000]
Across this resource.

[00:17:49.000]
Okay. So we talked about.

[00:17:52.000]
We jumped into repair. Let's talk about maintenance, labor estimating, and Boltons and recalls. So maintenance is here. And this is where this is what I was talking about the sub model. I'm sorry I was just struggling with that word. Where I don't know which one is it an Xls. Is it? An Lt, you know. So this the nice thing is when you put in that vin number, you get more information.

[00:18:15.000]
How many leader, engine.

[00:18:18.000]
And then it does as you notice it does. Stop.

[00:18:20.000]
Start to fill in that for me. I probably selected something wrong here.

[00:18:25.000]
Let's see.

[00:18:28.000]
2 and a half later.

[00:18:29.000]
There we go for cylinder, drive.

[00:18:33.000]
Front wheel drive. Let's say.

[00:18:37.000]
Normal.

[00:18:39.000]
So once you've made your selections, you can see. Here are your.

[00:18:44.000]
The maintenance. So we're in maintenance. So this is when you hit 7,500 miles.

[00:18:49.000]
What should be done?

[00:18:51.000]
And you can keep changing this.

[00:18:53.000]
Like I can. I can go to, or I can put in a however many miles or.

[00:18:59.000]
I can go to the service schedule over here to the right.

[00:19:02.000]
And every time I do like, if I put in, let's say.

[00:19:06.000]
30,000 miles.

[00:19:09.000]
View Service.

[00:19:11.000]
It'll change it for me.

[00:19:13.000]
And that's what I need inspected.

[00:19:15.000]
Replaced.

[00:19:17.000]
Rotate your tires is probably on every single one. Inspect, lubricate. So it gives you an idea of maintenance that you need done.

[00:19:25.000]
If I wanted to view the full chart or print this off, I could.

[00:19:30.000]
I know my dad likes to stay on top of this stuff.

[00:19:33.000]
But you can see at.

[00:19:35.000]
At each point, like 15,000 22,000 miles all the way up to 112,000 miles. What needs to be done? And the results are just showing 5 per page. I can increase that to say 15.

[00:19:52.000]
And that gives me more, even more information. So I could print this chart out or this schedule out. If that was something I was interested in.

[00:20:00.000]
And then here's the full chart which I just shared with you. So works the same. This.

[00:20:06.000]
Viewful Chart.

[00:20:08.000]
Oh, that was what I already clicked on the service schedule, that's what it was. So the service schedule and view full chart.

[00:20:15.000]
And then here I.

[00:20:17.000]
The chart.

[00:20:19.000]
Well, this is a little bit more helpful.

[00:20:22.000]
So you can see if you're not sure like I'm.

[00:20:25.000]
Always guessing if it's a.

[00:20:28.000]
I need to show more results.

[00:20:31.000]
Is it an Xls? Is it a.

[00:20:34.000]
Excel t.

[00:20:35.000]
It gives you a little bit more information there on that full chart.

[00:20:40.000]
Labor, estimating.

[00:20:42.000]
This is really helpful. If you are, let's say you are wanting to go and get your brakes done.

[00:20:48.000]
Anti lock, brakes.

[00:20:54.000]
Let's choose this one.

[00:20:57.000]
What it'll tell you.

[00:20:59.000]
Is.

[00:21:01.000]
How long it'll take.

[00:21:04.000]
So when you're getting charged for 2 h.

[00:21:08.000]
From the dealer to do this type of work.

[00:21:12.000]
You know, it's something that you might want to question.

[00:21:16.000]
So it's it's we've used it that way, I know. Like, does it really take? I'm seeing that, is it, you know? Isn't it just a regular, and then they'll, you know, if they need to make a change. I have actually switched mechanics because.

[00:21:30.000]
Of issues that I had. I felt like I was being overcharged.

[00:21:34.000]
And now have one that I feel like really is fair.

[00:21:37.000]
About a lot of things. And so that really, you know, kind of puts things into perspective right?

[00:21:44.000]
And then you also have the last one is bulletins, and recalls.

[00:21:51.000]
I have some information already showing in my results. If I want to get a little bit more specific with system symptoms.

[00:22:00.000]
I can do a quick search if I have the Tsb.

[00:22:03.000]
Number I can put that information in, but I can see any of those recalls already. Here. I can listen to.

[00:22:10.000]
The use the read speaker, or I can print this, or have I have this as a Pdf.

[00:22:17.000]
So I can view that Pdf.

[00:22:20.000]
Then here's the general.

[00:22:22.000]
Recall.

[00:22:25.000]
Information. This one has images, too.

[00:22:28.000]
Oh, this is a service bullet, and there's service bulletins and recalls.

[00:22:32.000]
Sorry.

[00:22:33.000]
I thought I clicked into.

[00:22:37.000]
Let's see if this one is one.

[00:22:44.000]
Recycling information. So.

[00:22:47.000]
It is more than just your recalls, it is bulletins also, so keep that in mind. And again, you can print any of those off.

[00:22:56.000]
If I wanted to go and change to a different vehicle, I can very easily do that.

[00:23:00.000]
Maybe I'm interested in a 2023.

[00:23:04.000]
Stick with Ford.

[00:23:07.000]
And we do have foreign as you as you can see here.

[00:23:11.000]
It's not just American. Made cars.

[00:23:15.000]
So we have foreign cars in here, too.

[00:23:19.000]
And our information comes directly from the manufacturer.

[00:23:23.000]
So all the information that you see within this resource has come from the manufacturer themselves. So Ford gives us that information. Now, there's a huge process that happens to get it.

[00:23:35.000]
From what they give us to the database.

[00:23:38.000]
And we have.

[00:23:40.000]
A team of folks at Gale that work on that and make it so that it makes sense to us right? Because what they get is the manufacturers copy and able to put it in here. Another thing that was happening up up until almost a year ago. Now we're approaching a year on this.

[00:23:56.000]
Where the manufacturers wouldn't release.

[00:23:59.000]
New cars. So anything within the last 5 years.

[00:24:02.000]
They wouldn't really set information, so we were unable to provide it to our users because it wasn't available to anyone except for the manufacturer. Well, we've been able to change that with them. And now they provide that information. So we have, up to the most recent vehicle information available within Chilton Library. So it's a great option to use, and so many different ways, even on newer models.

[00:24:26.000]
The reason why they weren't releasing them is because they wanted you to come into the dealer and not take care of it yourself. So.

[00:24:35.000]
I get it. It's business plan for them, right? But.

[00:24:39.000]
Now we do have all of those items available.

[00:24:42.000]
So I have repair and bulletins, and recalls which.

[00:24:46.000]
Actually.

[00:24:47.000]
There was just a recall, and I keep getting a text from my dealership that about the.

[00:24:53.000]
Screen.

[00:24:54.000]
Something with the backup camera screen.

[00:24:57.000]
Which I haven't experienced thankfully, but.

[00:24:59.000]
I do need to get it in.

[00:25:01.000]
So anyway.

[00:25:03.000]
What I wanted to share you. Why, I picked a different vehicle back to the homepage is because once you've selected multiple vehicles within your session.

[00:25:12.000]
You get this recent vehicles, you can just quickly jump back to.

[00:25:17.000]
The other vehicle that you were using. So as long as you're still in your same session. When you log out, it clears this information, or if you click clear, all.

[00:25:25.000]
But.

[00:25:26.000]
It, you can quickly jump back to your recent searches. During this session.

[00:25:31.000]
Alright hopefully. That answers a lot of your questions about Chilton Library again. Great for those classes where you have and not just for classes. You might have students that are car enthusiasts.

[00:25:42.000]
That, you know, like they're they're coming into your library, or you're talking to teachers. And you know this. My son talks about cars all the time he likes to try and fix.

[00:25:52.000]
The cars and learn how to do it himself. He has an engineering brain. He's going to college for that, but related to computers.

[00:25:59.000]
And he likes to figure that stuff out, so he devours.

[00:26:03.000]
This information that we have available here. So it's not just for your courses, I mean, talk to your counselors about it. They might be talking to students and know that they're going into.

[00:26:13.000]
A career where they want. They want to be a mechanic, and you know they need to take that ASE test prep.

[00:26:19.000]
Or would like that ta test prep to prepare for that certification. So there's lots of people in your schools that that talk and work with students that if they knew Chilton Library was available, could utilize it.

[00:26:31.000]
And have a lot of success with it.

[00:26:34.000]
