Utah's Online Public Library: Getting Started with Gale Resources

New resources available from Utah's Online Public Library are available on June 1st!  For access information and support, please watch this brief webinar that covers the basics to get started with your new Gale resources.

Duration: 15 Minutes
[00:00:03.110]
Welcome to Utah's Online Public library getting started with Gale short introduction session. My name is Tammi Burke. I'm your senior training consultant from Gale. And today I am going to share with you where you can find all of your access, information, title, list, support materials, all the things to just get you started. Now we will be adding.

[00:00:26.220]
or have already added, additional training sessions for the end of June. All the way through the month of July we are going to start at the end of June with an overview session, and that will take a look at all of the resources you have available. And then all of our sessions. After that we'll be focusing on individual collections. So just know that you have a lot of virtual training options available.

[00:00:52.250]
Those will all be recorded. And I'm going to share with you today where you're going to find not only the upcoming sessions, but all of those recordings. So we do have I? I am going to share with you that date in July, a little bit later in the session, so that you can join us for that introductory overview training session.

[00:01:13.790]
Let's start with access and support. And then I'm going to talk to you about we're gonna browse that actual support site and share with you the materials and title lists that you have available. Any questions I'm going to provide you with my contact information, and then few, 2 internal groups that Gale your customer, success managers, which are your

[00:01:35.656]
one-on-one support and all things Gale, and then also our technical support team. So I'll share all their information at the end, along with my own.

[00:01:44.100]
to get us started. I wanted to talk about Utah's online public library website. The link is here at the top of the page. They have provided you with great information about your new resources that you'll have. Actually, you're going to have them starting June first.st So we are opening up access a month early, so you will have them available starting June first.st

[00:02:07.200]
So we wanted to make sure that you all understood how you can access them. Not only that, but we also wanted to cover a crosswalk, so a gale crosswalk to your ebsco previous ebsco resources so that you're familiar with

[00:02:22.409]
the resources from Gale, the titles of them, and how they connect to are related to your previous Ebsco products. So you're once you click on that link, it'll take you to these slides. That'll talk about this information. I will also be covering this later in June. But the Utah's Online Public Library has provided for pro provided this information for you now. So you have it ready to go as you get ready to launch and share your new resources.

[00:02:51.190]
We've also created a support site. So to access Utah's Online Public Library, Gil resources, you can go directly to this support site. You're going to find all of your direct Urls there for all of the resources. And then you will also find training materials and marketing materials. VPAT information. All available on that site. And this is what it looks like.

[00:03:15.920]
So on or after June first, all of the libraries will be loaded into this page, so you'll be able to find your library name. Once you find your library, you click, proceed after you click, proceed. It'll take you to all of your product links. And then what happens is built into your direct Urls, your libraries, individual location Id will be added there so that you'll very easily be able to track usage

[00:03:45.506]
to your resources and see what's being utilized and what you, you know. See, some of those top search terms and that type of information. There's a lot of great usage information that we're able to pull on the usage dashboard. And it's a very visual site, and we're going to cover that down the road. But let's get you started with those direct Urls

[00:04:06.740]
so that you are using them for your specific library location to export the entire list. You have this option to export links here, just on the right hand side of that page. You also

[00:04:18.250]
can go to the ebooks. Tab all of your training materials, marketing materials, Vpad information. And we're going to cover some of this today, too.

[00:04:27.170]
So with that, let's jump into.

[00:04:29.710]
We're going to start with your

[00:04:33.480]
Utah's public library. So we are actually here. Let me go to that homepage. The learn more is here again. Remember, early access is being provided as of June first.st So when we click, learn more.

[00:04:47.720]
we'll take be taken to the coming soon page, and this is where you can find all of the information about your new resources, including that crosswalk. When I open the crosswalk

[00:04:59.020]
it does open in the same tab, and you can see here's the crosswalk of your Gale resources as compared to your Ebsco resources.

[00:05:08.700]
Okay.

[00:05:10.310]
let me go back.

[00:05:12.318]
Below is all of your new resources. So you have all of those that list. There. Now, if you're looking for icons, I wouldn't suggest using this. I'm gonna share with you your support site. So I shared the link in the Powerpoint.

[00:05:25.840]
This is what it looks like in when you click into it, let me increase the size. Here, there we go, and again, access will be early. Access is being provided on June first.st So right now, we don't have any libraries listed because access is not available yet, but it will be in just a couple of days. Once I sign in my product lists are here.

[00:05:47.210]
and again.

[00:05:48.720]
I will have all of my right now it's blank my location id, but my specific library site. I would have my location Id built into all of these direct urls.

[00:05:59.830]
and if I would like to export that list. I have that option on the right hand side.

[00:06:05.440]
Your ebook information is here also.

[00:06:09.080]
Tammi Burke: and there are direct, direct yeah Urls

[00:06:11.500]
to your ebooks, but they all live on the Yale ebooks platform.

[00:06:16.930]
which there's a direct yeah, URL, on the product list.

[00:06:20.570]
Your training materials.

[00:06:22.740]
This is where we have. The June sessions have been added. July are going to be added in the next day or so here, so you'll have all of June and July sessions. All of these training sessions will be recorded, and then what'll happen is they'll live here under this general training material section. So once we have those

[00:06:42.516]
sessions that are recorded specifically for Utah's online public library on your gale resource collection that you have. And like I mentioned, you'll have multiple training opportunities on the different collections.

[00:06:55.360]
Tammi Burke: They'll all be posted here, so you'll be able to from this link access both the upcoming webinars as we're seeing here, and then the recordings will live here, too. We've also added a welcome to Gale, FAQ. Sheet, and that also lives here in the training section of the support site to answer some of those questions that you may have. So please take a look at that.

[00:07:17.990]
and then below. We have view by product. Now these are all the training materials that we have available for each product. So let's open entrepreneurship.

[00:07:28.470]
So Gale business entrepreneurship. You can see at the top, we have a training slide deck with all of our training notes attached to it. So this is great. If you're training folks in your library, we have the recorded webinars.

[00:07:42.070]
Any resource guides tip sheets our training toolkit. So again, once you get comfortable with the resources, and you want to facilitate your own trainings, we've created and curated a collection of our training materials into a toolkit from the, and it takes you from the basics to where you can go for help.

[00:08:00.740]
We have tutorials available. And then, if we have any upcoming webinars, you'll see those posted here, and these are organized by products. So if I were to go into Gale and context elementary. Now, this is a resource, an elementary resource for kindergarten through 5th graders. So we have a lot of activities connected to this one. These are activities that can be done in your library, some that we also share with schools, too.

[00:08:25.550]
but great for your library programming. And these are student activities. We have some lesson plans, more professional development materials, webinars.

[00:08:35.250]
And the list goes on. You find resource guides, tip sheets, toolkits are all here. And again these are organized by product. All you have to do is open up that product to see all of the training materials below

[00:08:48.950]
the same

[00:08:50.270]
process works for marketing. So if I open up marketing

[00:08:55.770]
and I were to select.

[00:08:58.010]
let's go into

[00:09:00.490]
Gale In Context: middle school this time. You can see all of we have social media

[00:09:05.630]
posts. We have email templates and blog templates and bookmarks, flyers available. Some of our flyers are also in Spanish. We also have every social media shape and size available to like. Here we go. Here's all our social media posts. If you would like to share that information directly onto one form of social media to share with your public library.

[00:09:32.317]
audience or community.

[00:09:34.940]
Okay.

[00:09:36.290]
so that is our support site. Now, one other thing I want to share with you. Besides, we have VPAT. Information is our title list. Now, our title lists actually live in our support site. So what I would want to do is go click on the term support here at the top in the banner.

[00:09:52.630]
So I click on support and you'll see

[00:09:56.170]
right on the home page.

[00:09:58.240]
I have title lists

[00:10:00.090]
now. I can't log in just yet, so I can't sign into my account. But if I had signed in.

[00:10:06.420]
you know, on the previous page that I'd shared with you and clicked proceed and had all of my direct Urls with my location id built in.

[00:10:14.070]
Then I would see my location already listed here, but they're not loaded yet, because it's not June first.st So after June 1st you'll see all that information, and I will be doing a training session on everything that you're going to find in this support site again. That'll happen in July. Or possibly, you know, in August. We're going to see how everyone's feeling. Take our take our temperature and go from there

[00:10:39.010]
and see how we're feeling without all the information that we'll be sharing. But I do want to share with you, because questions have come up about title lists.

[00:10:47.290]
And so again I clicked on support, click into title lists.

[00:10:52.290]
and it takes you to the Kbart files. But I want to share with you. Go into additional

[00:10:58.820]
when I click on additional.

[00:11:00.930]
And I want to say, look at all of my periodical content for Gale, general, one file I can pull that in an excel spreadsheet.

[00:11:13.690]
and it does download it for me. So let me open that up.

[00:11:17.080]
and then I will share

[00:11:19.980]
that screen with you. Just one moment here.

[00:11:26.590]
Okay, so I share that file with you.

[00:11:33.510]
Tammi Burke: You can see here all of the titles are listed.

[00:11:37.660]
and I'm at the bottom. So we have

[00:11:40.980]
14,000 different publications available.

[00:11:45.638]
And you can see the publication name, and all of the information that you need, including the full text, start date, the format. Even the frequency

[00:11:58.150]
country primary subject is over here on the right hand side, which can be really helpful as you're looking, especially if you're looking for different magazines, if you're looking for that primary subject. So again, that title list lives on the support site. Let me go back to that file.

[00:12:19.320]
So it lives again on the support site.

[00:12:22.550]
and I clicked on support

[00:12:25.180]
and went directly to title lists. It also lives. If you go under product support, you'll see title lists there, too. So from the homepage or product support. You'll find the title list there.

[00:12:39.760]
Alright. Let me go back to my Powerpoint, and I want to share with you

[00:12:50.020]
just a couple more slides.

[00:12:53.280]
One of them is a quick look at those popular magazines, and these are just some of what we have available. We wanted to put them into a quick slide to share with you what you're going to find in your gale, general, one file, which is more of those popular general reference magazines and newspapers where academic one file is focusing on those academic journals, scholarly journals. So a little bit, you know, different type of information in each one.

[00:13:22.820]
So I just wanted to share with you some of the

[00:13:25.730]
titles or publications that you're going to find there. Of course this isn't all of them. As I mentioned. There's over 14,000 of them, but here are some that you will have available that we pulled out wanted to share with you. Today

[00:13:38.390]
we do have an upcoming training. I already shared the support site, but I'll share it again if you go directly to the training center. Our session is on Tuesday, June 25, th at 9 Am. Mountain time. It is an hour-long session, and this session is that

[00:13:54.820]
oh, deeper look! But oh, kind of an overview with some focusing on some certain collections. So it's really like unleashing that like, I said, unleashing the possibilities here in the title, exploring the riches of gale resources. It's that broad session to let you know what you have, what collections you have available. And then we're following that up with multiple virtual training sessions covering those individual collections

[00:14:19.800]
like, say, focusing on your business resources, or you're specifically on product families like your Gale and context or your Gale, one file resources so that you understand what is there, and you can share that information with your public library patrons.

[00:14:35.740]
Tammi Burke: And with that

[00:14:38.470]
I'm going to end our session today. But I want to thank you so much for taking the time to take a look at what you have coming and what you'll have available, and to start with how to access that information so we can get you started. And then I look forward to you, joining me again later on the month of June, and we can talk a little further. You can ask questions and hopefully you'll join multiple sessions or watch

[00:15:03.420]
those recordings for one-on-one support. You have your Gale technical support team, and they can help with any of those tech questions where your Gale customer success managers are your one on one support in all things, Gale. So they are post sales support. They are looking for you to have smashing success with your Gale resources. You can reach out to them directly for any help that you may need, even if it is access

[00:15:28.190]
information on the Gale support site. Or you want to understand the usage dashboard a little bit more. I will have a training on that some down the road, once we get started here and have some usage to show, but we will, if you want to talk to them about it before we have that training feel free to reach out to them again. They're great for that one on one support again. My name is Tammi Burke. I'm your senior training consultant

[00:15:53.170]
from Gale, and I thank you so much for your time. Today. I hope you join us again later on in June, and look forward to you joining future sessions. Thank you. Everyone.
