Gale's Content Curation Tool

The Gale database local content control option is a tool that’s designed to give selected institutions an additional way to resolve content issues if they are not fully satisfied with the results of Gale’s content challenge escalation process. When enabled, the tool allows the customer institution admin to immediately remove an article and/or remove an entire publication from view in all Gale databases at that institution. If a library wants to make that content visible again in the future, they can simply remove it from the disabled list.

Welcome to Gale's Content Curation

[00:00:05.750]
Tool tutorial. My name is Tammi

[00:00:07.809]
Burke. You're Gale senior trainer.

[00:00:10.868]
The request to remove materials from library

[00:00:13.179]
collections has been increasing. Libraries

[00:00:15.728]
are facing content challenges and

[00:00:17.888]
are in need of a local control option.

[00:00:20.539]
Gale regularly monitors publications

[00:00:23.158]
for "fringe" explicit content

[00:00:25.280]
and reviews purges and adds content

[00:00:28.039]
to meet educational needs

[00:00:30.170]
to support the request from our customers

[00:00:32.459]
for an additional solution to help resolve

[00:00:34.880]
content challenges. Gale developed

[00:00:37.298]
the Content Control Tool or the Content

[00:00:39.630]
Curation Tool.

[00:00:42.319]
Gale stands behind the products we

[00:00:44.340]
have built and we believe the content

[00:00:46.569]
within them is appropriate for users.

[00:00:48.889]
Therefore, the vast majority of customers

[00:00:51.429]
will not need to use this tool for

[00:00:53.918]
those libraries that do.

[00:00:55.908]
What is the tool?

[00:00:57.418]
The Gale database local control

[00:00:59.709]
option is a tool that is designed to

[00:01:01.789]
give selected institutions an

[00:01:04.049]
additional way to resolve content

[00:01:06.069]
issues if they are not fully satisfied

[00:01:08.730]
with the results of Gale's content

[00:01:11.230]
challenge escalation process.

[00:01:13.698]
When enabled the tool allows the institution

[00:01:16.370]
or library admin to immediately

[00:01:18.569]
remove an article and or remove

[00:01:20.698]
a publication from view in all

[00:01:23.000]
Gale databases at that institution.

[00:01:26.540]
Why? Gale created this

[00:01:28.650]
tool because our customers requested

[00:01:30.760]
an additional solution to help resolve

[00:01:33.168]
content challenges.

[00:01:34.739]
In addition to Gale's content challenge

[00:01:36.819]
escalation process,

[00:01:39.659]
How?

[00:01:40.750]
the content control tool is accessed

[00:01:43.269]
through the admin area of either

[00:01:45.349]
Gale In Context or Gale One

[00:01:47.579]
File resources. Changes

[00:01:49.609]
made in the tool affect all Gale databases.

[00:01:53.150]
It is possible that a database article

[00:01:55.558]
that has been disabled is also present

[00:01:57.989]
in one of the institution's Gale eBooks.

[00:02:00.808]
In that case, the article is disabled

[00:02:03.299]
in the eBook as well.

[00:02:07.650]
Your Gale team is here to support you.
