Operating Systems and Media Players

 

Windows 2000, XP, Vista

Two media players are required to view video content within all browsers for Windows operating systems:

 

Windows Media Player is installed by default on all Windows. If you have an older version, you can download the latest version for free at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx.

 

QuickTime can be downloaded for free at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.

 

Mac OS X 10.3.9 and higher

One media player and one plug-in are required to view video content within all browsers for Mac OS X operating systems:

 

QuickTime Player is installed by default on all computers with OS X. If you have an older version, you can download the latest version for free at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.

Troubleshooting and Browser Configuration

While installing the media players above should ensure a good experience, individual configurations can vary widely.

 

The most basic troubleshooting step is to close all browser windows and/or quit all browser applications and re-install the required media players above.

 

If that is unsuccessful, the following steps for each browser should ensure that the video from Global Issues in Context is configured to play properly.

 

Firefox (Windows 2000, XP, and Vista; Mac OS X)

1) Access Application options (Tools-->Options-->select ‘Applications’ tab in Windows 2000, XP, and Vista; Firefox-->Preferences--> select ‘Applications’ tab in Mac OS X)

2) Ensure that the following content types are configured properly:

Bandwidth requirements

A minimum bandwidth of 256Kbps is recommended to support streaming video.
